I would be ticked off as well. Although I agree that no harm was done to the car, the fact that they lied to you is wrong. Even though a few responses to your thread came from member's that apparantely have no problem with people lying to there face, I agree with you and would have done the same thing.

Getting angry with a car dealer for lieing is like getting mad at the sky for raining.

If I buy new, I would take anything that says free at the dealer in the form of a real dollar mark down on price, or as a cash payment. I would never go to any dealer, even for free. I've watched dealer prices in San Diego go from $55hr in 1996 to $220hr currently, for the same incompetance, long wait times, and constant upgrade selling on repairs by every service rep. I prefer to either do it myself, or have my mobile mechanic do repairs or maintenance for a flat fee or $25hr, which ever is less.

Thats the problem with lies, you have to keep track of them.

Ok, so on a rather minor issue, you have discovered that you can't trust that dealer's service department. Good thing to know.

While a letter to Toyota might be in order, understand that it was not Toyota that did the lying here. It was the dealerships service department. I would write the dealer owner a letter to express to them your displeasure on this issue. They might not have a clue whats going on in their own service department.

Reguardless of how the dealer owner responds to you, I would NEVER take the car back to that service deparment.

I've discoverd over 30+ years of owning cars and having them serviced.... If you spoke to anyone other than the man (or woman) who had their head under the hood of your car... they were probably telling a lie.

I jokingly asked aservice writer at a dealership one time...Why is it that it always cost me $300 to $400 everytime I come in here? The service writer sitting next to the guy I was talking to said..."you let him out for less than $500?

Nothing new for Toyota...there is a 15+ page thread on another forun with someone trying to get his Scion's cold start rattle fixed. Three plus months of stonewalling so far.

What forum is that? I'm seriously thinking about buying a Scion.

Bob the Oil Guy forum, car is a Scion tC. Short version: it has the same engine as the Corolla/Matrix/Rav4 with the same rattling VVT problem...but the recall does not cover Scions. The poster's car is rattling, and the dealer (in North Carolina) has been blowing him off since November, insisting it is "normal".

By the way.. the O/P is not the only person made mad by a Toyota dealer.

My daugher's car (A chevy Malabu" was turned into a sandwich filling by a hit and runner n a pick up.. The Taxi cab (The other slice of bread in the sandwich) driver went to hospital.

Well she went to a Toyota dealer to look at new cars.. He so impressed her she bought a Nissan. (As you can guess it was not a good impression)

And that was the SALES department, not the service dept.

I can only imagine what Service would have been like.

I never take any of my vehicles to dealers unless it is no-cost warranted work. Even then I have had them lie to me in order not to do the warranted work. I trust small, independent shops more than the dealerships.

the change interval for synthetic oil in a toyota is 10,000 miles or one year. were you trying to get them to change it at 5,000? no wonder there was an issue.
