Hey all, considering yet another new TV, the two in consideration are the Sierra CC 4X4 SLE max trailer package, 6.2, or F150 CC 4X4 ecoboost HD payload package.

I don't really need any info about the ecoboost, I can find that EVERYWHERE, as for the 6.2 not really a lot of towing info, lots of guys racing, (which i don't care about).

Are any of you using the 6.2 and how does it perform, hills etc. and how much weight. The one I'm looking at has tow rating of 10,000 ish .

One thing confusing about these trucks they both have same RAWR but the F150 has 8200 GVWR and GM is 7300, and the payloads are about 500lbs different from each other based on their web's numbers..

We have an 07 Silverado 1500 LTZ (new shape) 6.0 V8 VVTi 4 speed 4.10 axle with factory added - NHT Max Trailering Package.
With the 'NHT' tow rating increases to 10,500lbs according to the 'owners handbook.'

Also our truck has rear disc brakes, far more effective.

I would say the one downside to GM trucks is that they still fit rear drums to some trucks.

The 6.2 has the 6 speed autobox.

We bought ours (traded in an 07 Avalanche) last July in Winnipeg and moved back to New Brunswick towing a 31ft TT.

Correctly set up with WDH & one anti sway friction ($45 plus tax) we had a very comfortable journey over 3,000 kms last summer.

One reason we like a GM is because the seats are FAR MORE COMFORTABLE then the other brands....more support under the thighs!

Our gas 6.0L V8 has the 'variable valve' technology, so it goes like a rocket!

I have one... but not the NHT package. (Mine has all of the options, except for the 3.73 rear axle ratio.) One word? L.O.V.E.!

It's a little bit more thirsty than the 5.3, mainly because of some problem in my right foot (when you hear the exhaust note, you will know what I mean! The 6-speed is fantastic, as is the integrated brake control, traction control, and stabilitrac.

I considered an eco-boost for about 15 minutes.

Iron is better than aluminum for towing, hence the reason GM puts 6.0L in HD's and not a 6.2L. For nonfrequent towing near max the 6.2L will be great but the 6.0L is just as stout.

In my opinion, you're not comparing apples to apples with a NA engine and one making boost.

I pulled my (previous) trailer 100 miles with a Yukon XL Denali that had the 6.2. In comparison to my 8.1 Yukon XL, the power was comparable. The suspension of the Denali was the difference.

There is a lot more than just axle rating to big payload capability. It has to do with brakes, frame strength, transmission, cooling systems etc. When you find the information on the 6.2 check out the RPM range where the big torque is found.
Good luck with your decision / Skip

I believe it's 362 @4350 rpms. Per Hypertech
3.5 EB is 360 @2900 rpms, per Pickuptrucks .com

I know the ecoboost has better torque at lower rpm which is great for towing. Isn't the 3.5 aluminum as well?

One thing I like is that F150 has 6.5 bed vs GM's 5'8 box, but the payloads don't make sense to me. The NHT is basically GM'S HD package, has bigger ring gear Eaton locker and rear disc's. The RAWR is 4800 same as ford but the GVWR is only 7300..? Now Ford, according to specs with a 4800RAW reaches an 8200GVWR,.??
Either GM is underrated or ford is pulling our legs a little on this one..
I think I read that the NHT has the 2500 rad in it, tranny is the same as 2500 I think, maybe frame is weaker than ford maybe weaker springs..??

7300 vs. 8200...

Look at combined axle ratings, FAWR + RAWR.

GVWR is always some lesser part of FAWR + RAWR.

Ford tends to rate its trucks closer to combined axle ratings than GM does. GM likes to leave a little more wiggle room between GVWR and combined axle ratings.
