I had a set of Carlisle tires on a brand new hybrid trailer a few years back. I had been reading this forum and knew about all the problems with Carlisles out there so I asked the salesman and, of course, he told me that they hadn't had any complaints.

One of mine unraveled after a couple of months, taking out the brake wiring on that side of the trailer. It was properly inflated, we weren't overloaded, we were traveling at 60 mph and it was cool(70)outside. The tire failed and Carlisle agreed and replaced all 5 of them with a different brand. I can't complain too much.

And, I believe that the real cause was the weight rating. I think it as a load level C tire that just barely made up the GVWR for the trailer. There was NO safety cushion for weight. So, was it the tire, or was the problem caused by Starcraft cutting corners by putting on cheap(under rated) tires?

I have no problems with ST tires. As long as you travel under 65, keep them inflated and install ones that give you a minimum of 15% of weight cushion, I think you will be fine. Now, if you want to fly down the road at 75, in the extreme heat, with a large trailer, perhaps LTs might be worth looking into. Just my 2 pennies.

I'll most likely end up with the ST225/75R15D with new rims if needed. I know I'm rolling the dice, but I'm going to see how long I can stretch these GY Marathons that are on our new TT. I just can't see replacing tires yet after one 250+ miles.

I don't know your trailers load capacity per tire requirements but Maxxis has a commercial grade U-168 Bravo LT tire in several 15" sizes in D load range up to 2335 lbs. the U-168 are becomming very popular with trailer users of all types including RVers.

Goodyear Wrangler HT in a LT215/75-15 D at 2095 lbs capacity. Several major brand manufactures still make a LT235/75-15 C at 1985 lb capacity.

Different size tires have different wheel width and pressure requirements so look at each tires needs and proper tire clearance under your trailers wheel well.
