12.8-13.8 MPG with the 6.2L? If that is average, no thanks.

I guess because the 6.2 is a new motor I was expecting it to return better MPG than it does. Its certainly no better MPG (by most reports it appears to be a little worse) than the much older 6.0 GM gas motor. The 6.2 does make a little more hp and torque at slightely higher RPM ranges than the 6.0. Considering it the newest large gas motor on the market, it does not hold much hope for anything spectatular on the horizon for these HD gas engines. Maybe GM will reveal some "magic" with the release of their next trucks.

True, but consider...figure $3.25/gal for 87 vs $3.85/gal for diesel...getting 13mpg on 87 would cost the same as getting 15.4mpg on diesel.

A lot of diesel owners will tell you that getting ~15mpg in mixed driving is not uncommon at all; that's what I saw from my 2002 7.3L 4x4 CC SB Lariat on 265/75R16 E's.

Not making a case for the 6.2L over a diesel- I think every person's needs and uses are different and there's no one "right" truck for everyone- just food for thought. It's a different world than when diesel was less expensive than gasoline.

Had: 02 F250 7.3tdV8 4x4 ccsb lariat auto deep red - miss it
Have: 02 Land Cruiser 4x4 4.7naV8gas auto white loaded - love it
Soon: the Cruiser goes to the girlfriend, I get another 4x4 crew cab diesel
