I have a new to me Raptor with a Cummins Onan 5.5 generator. What is a realistic run time per gallon of gas? I have a 30 gallon fuel station so I imagine it will last a while, but what would be a realistic time at 50% load? For a trip, don't see any need to fill it more than necessary since the motorcycle will most likely be filled at gas stations.

I believe Onan claims .8 gallons per hour under full load.

Thanks, I pumped out the gas that was in the tank, nasty, and flushed it with a gallon of clean. Added 2 gallons to the tank and am running it to change the oil/filter. Much quieter than the one I have around the house for power outages.

I would say around .75gal/hr, but why not just fill it up and put a fuel stabilizer in with the gas as the gen needs to be run monthly for 1/2 to 1 hr. under a load anyway. Yes I know we are talking around a $100 dollar bill to do this.

During the heart of race season, we run two ACs and have no problems with fuel. It does get fairly low but for at least 26-30 hours, it keeps on running on the 30 gallon tank.
When we're not using the ACs during cool weather season, we could probably get two weekends on that same 30 gallons.

I bought this about a year before I plan to use it much. Will get an occasional weekend but that's about it till next summer (2013) when I retire. Didn't want excess gas in it. The gas that is in it now does have stabilizer. in the mean time, I may "camp" on the property a night or 2.

I boondocked at Road Atlanta last fall for 4 days. My Onan 5.5 ran for 20 hours on 10 gallons lightly loaded. I didn't run a/c, but did run my tv and satellite system for my grandchildren and lights and fans.

If that raptor has a steel fuel tank and you live in a climate that has condensation from the temp swings -keep the tank full and treated with Stabil -marine formula or green formula. If the right amount of fuel treatment is used -the gas will be stable/usable for 2 years.
Leaving the tank partially full, even with treated gas -in climates with condensation issues, has a high potential for the gas to look cloudy/muddy and have issues being burnt by you Onan.
The carb on your Onan is a very finicky piece.
Onan owners manual is available HERE and has the guideline on "excercise" tiem and load.
Your excercise period is to make sure it runs ok and make sure the generator end gets hot enough to dry any moisture present (prevent slip ring corrosion).

We run .5 -.7gph depending on if we run the AC. Don't need that too much in the PNW however. The fuel tank on our 3712 is plastic, so no rust issues from that perspective, but we do run Stabil. We do a lot of boondocking and have about 275 hours on our 5.5. No issues whatsoever, but I'm pretty dilligent about changing the oil/filter and air filter.
