I am thinking of useing a 1995 f350 box truck to tow my 26 ft. TT. Has anyone seen this or thoughts on this. Its a old U Haul truck. plenty of power tow cap. 7500 lbs. Will have to come up with new bumper for hitch.

My only concern would be how much life is left in the truck. How reliable will it be? Why don't they want it anymore?
If you get it inspected and include everything that needs attention when considering the price, it could well be what you want.

PS:
Re-reading your post I am now unclear whether your looking at this truck or already own it. If you've already had it a while then you know all its bumps and noises. In that case get the tranny looked at and hit the road.

U-Haul used to have odd ball parts that only can be found on a U-Haul. Had a friend break down and have to wait 6 weeks for a flywheel

How did that happen? Did U-Haul order trucks with special parts?
I always thought they used stock trucks. Weird.

I'm sure it will work well for you, but asking someone here who has just maxed out his credit card, put a second loan on his house and bought a new 4x4, diesel, six passenger pickup, with every extra known to man on it, can not answers or relate to what you are trying to do.

My cousin works for U-Haul as a mechanic. So, I can say that I know U-Haul does keep up with the mainteance on their trucks. However, a couple of things to consider:
1) Is a U-Haul truck from a U-Haul center or a small satellite site?
If it is from a large center that has a lot of trucks then you will be much more likely to have a truck that has been well maintained. If it is from a small mom & pop shop that only has 2-3 trucks and a few trailers then you can't be so sure about how well it has been maintained.
2) It's a 16 year old truck that has been rented to anyone that has the money to rent a U-Haul Truck whether they know anything about driving a truck or not.
3) If you do decide to buy it based on your mechanics reco make sure that the govenor mechanism is removed or you won't be able to get the best performance out of the truck.

Go for it OP!
If the truck mechanically checks out then I would consider doing it.
I would be caution against loading the box full and towing a full trailer. But if the truck can handle the weight then there shouldn't be a problem.
You could probably get a company who fabricates flat beds for cab trucks build you a strong class V receiver for your box truck.
Remember you do not need 400 hp and 800 lb ft of torque to move a load at a safe speed.
Even my old 2v valve 5.4 v8 can move my trailer on the interstate at speeds fast enough to be ticketed. It only has 330 lb ft of torque. Inevitably, some one will call me a tool or something because I have not spent 35k on a new truck. Oh well, you don't have to spend big bucks to tow safely and be comfortable.
Enjoy the new old truck. Hmm that big box would convert to a wonderful toy hauler. Lol
Good luck,

I believe the truck will do fine. As stated above, be careful of the weight in truck and trailer, but some weight in the tuck will help it drive better. I wouldn't plan on breaking any land speed records, but it will do fine if you keep your speed down. If you do try to keep up with everyone, then plan on stopping every other exit for gas. Remember this truck is an F350, which means it has a truck chassis just like all the other trucks out there, except this one has a box on it and not a bed.
