It might work for you but you better be an excellent mechanic. If you have to pay someone to keep in running you will be broke.

Uhaul buys new trucks and uses them as long distance highway (one way) rentals. After a period of time they become local rentals and aren't allowed to be rented one way. After the local trucks are totally clapped out and unreliable they are put up for sale. The used rental trucks generally have a very short life after being sold because of high repair and maintenance costs.

U-Haul used to have odd ball parts that only can be found on a U-Haul. Had a friend break down and have to wait 6 weeks for a flywheel

How did that happen? Did U-Haul order trucks with special parts?
I always thought they used stock trucks. Weird.

Their contract with Ford for trucks was huge, they had their own specs. They had odd engine transmission combinations. Back in the late 80's early 90's, they used a 330LD engine with a 12" clutch and a Clark or New Process 5 speed that was only found in the U-Hauls. I know they have used a butane type freon in their A/C systems, ( flammable ), as I am told by a friend who has a U-Haul franchise and service garage.
