My classic is on the original batts, If you are starting it daily in the cold you will be needing batteries sooner then later. Mine are fine now - I assume next winter may be another story. As the battery temp drops, the amp hours drop also. At some point there isn't enough power to run the glow plugs, grid heater, and starter at the same time.

If your Chevy or GMC is like my 2007 GMC Sierra Classic diesel, rain water drains from the windshield on top of the passenger side battery. I have seen a puddle on my passenger side battery after a rain.
Some people over at dieselplace.com replaced their batteries, then later noticed battery acid under the truck and damage to the area under the passenger side battery. It seems for the more unlucky among us, the rain water can get past the fill caps on some brands of replacement batteries and overfill the battery.
See post 16 of A tale of two batteries.
My original ACDelco batteries do not have fill caps and look the same as Deka batteries. The telltale feature is the two vent holes on the ends and the mostly flat top. Like the two Deka Ultimate batteries in the back here.
It appears from the NAPA website that their batteries currently look the same as DEKA and the same as installed originally in my truck. The pictures of the batteries at the ACDelco website are different than my oem batteries.
I have been wondering if I should replace my five year old batteries. The truck was made in October 2006 and sold 9 months later by the dealer. I wonder if sitting mostly unused for 9 months shortened their lifespan. I do not want dead batteries someplace far from a NAPA store, like the campground at Acadia National Park.
Buyer beware and good luck.

I had to replace mine this time last year in my '07 classic. They were getting weaker and weaker. The truck would still start, but noticeably slower. I had a bed side replaced(5th wheel contacted truck bed), and while at the body shop the batteries took a dump. They replaced one battery for me with a brand new interstate, and I bought another interstate so I have two new batteries! Life is good!

Original two batts in my '05. As long as I can still crank easily on one of them at a time I plan to leave them in place.
In the unlikely event they fail together and let me down, I'll "borrow" the trailer battery until I can replace them.

I understand and nothing wrong with that either.
One thing I did learn a few months ago was this. I have owned a load tester for many many years and have tested my batteries when they got weak.
I bought batteries for my 6.5 diesel about a year ago and it was cranking a little funny and charging a little funny so I load tested them. Good to go; or so my load tester said. Same problem. Hope I don't need a starter! 300 and something bucks!!!
I talk to a very good mechanic and he asked me if I did a specific gravity test on them? Nope I told him, no need too, I load tested them. WRONG he told me. You need to SG test them.
So I talk to another VERY good mechanic friend of mine and he told me the same thing. He went on to say he has a new fancy electronic tester that can test each cell and also tell you the exact CCA it puts out under load. He checked them and they were JUNK.
Hmmmmmmmm I like new tools!!!! I hate doing SG tests because they are so time consuming and messy. So I check out these new testers and here is what I find. Check this tester out!
Look at the ratings and see what people say about it. If you bought something like this you might save some money because it will tell you what shape your battery is in.
I don't own it but I hope to soon!!
CAUTION: Ford 6.0 Powerstroke owners don't run your batteries down to nothing like I do or you could be sorry. Doing so may fry your FICM and they are very $$$$$$$$$$$$$.

LOL yeah they eat batteries faster than studs
Had mine load tested last fall at Napa and they tested fine. So far so good this winter although it don't get used much in winter.

We have a 06 LBZ with the batteries that came from the factory. The truck is parked when we are not camping. From time to time I put a charge on the batteries to keep them up. I plan to run them until they don't start the truck or I sell it which ever is first.
