It is legal in Montana just as it is, IF it is under 75 feet overall length, and IF the second trailer has brakes that can be controlled by the driver.

"With a commercial driver's license, that is a legal rig to tow down the freeway."

But that only applies to California!

Did you see the post from the fellow that was pulled over by a State Patrol guy, he was told his CDL only counts when he is working, recreation doesn't count and his double tow was illegal.

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

Flordia? Georgia? I forget, someplace in the south-east.

I can actually see the logic there, the name is Commercial Drivers License

The name doesn't matter.
Long before the CDL, I had a Chauffeur's License, even though I was never employed as a "Chauffeur".
In California, a Class A CDL with Doubles Endorsement is required for towing RECREATIONAL Doubles. It has to be a Class A CDL because that is the only license that allows for the Doubles Endorsement, so they say.

According to several lists of towing laws (which are admittedly often inaccurate), RV double towing is not allowed in almost every state along the Eastern Seaboard from Maine to Florida. IIRC, there is ONE state that allows it, somewhere in the New England area.
Actually, if any State wanted to, the DMV could require that EVERY driver in the State have a CDL. In those states where any open truck is a "commercial" vehicle, it would seem to be logical.

Looks typical of RVs I've seen pulling all kinds of doubles (two trailers) in Florida during bike week.

Actually there very common set ups I see on the interstate around here mostly in the snowbird traveling seasons (fall and spring). Nothing unsafe about those type set ups.

There evidently must be two different versions of this video playing. I agree that the pop up is swaying, but it nowhere near comes to "flipping", and the Jeep is tracking straight. That truck is designed and perfectly capable off pulling far more than it is.

For those people who swear it's unsafe to double tow, don't do it. Simple. If you don't like seeing it, then don't look. Even simpler. I'll be nice and warn you ahead of time, close your eyes the first week of March, I'm heading west with my toys in tow.

Thank-you, Thank-you, Thank-you for saying what has has been on my mind since joining here. These nasayers don't double tow but read and comment every time it is discussed. Talk about trying to impose their will on others. They need to get a life or hobby. Double tow forever!!!! (Where legal
