I was at the Richmond (VA) RV show last night. One vendor had a 1/2 ton towable sign on nearly every TT and at least one 5'ver. Up to an included a TT that had a dry weight of 8,200 pounds.
Technically, the 8282# was within the 9300# that Ford says my F150 can tow. However, a tongue weight (15%) alone would use up nearly all of my cargo weight capacity. And this is before I substract for my weight and that of my DW, plus the weight of the hitch itself and the fiberglass bed cover that I installed after purchase of the truck.
That is an example of the type of dealer that would sell to the unsuspecting buyer, a TT that would overwhelm the TV the buyer had. And not think twice about it.

No. While I'm not fond of McGeorge, it definitely wasn't them.

Don't know if you have noticed the vehicle dealerships lately. They are loaded with 1/2 ton PUs in Montana and Wyoming. I looked at a couple of dealerships in Cody, WY and Billings, MT. These 1/2 tons are mostly crew cabs. I didn't even know they built a 1/2 ton crew cab. I suppose this big new trend is part of EPA and fuel savings.

Could it be that the dealer is merely parroting what the manufacturer has said?
No, of course not. It HAS to be the lieing, cheating, stealing, nasty dealer and his nasty salespersons!
Yeah, right...

We seen the same thing at the RV show in Monroe, MI sponsored by General RV and it was not just TT but on 5ers. When I asked a salesman about it all he said it would pull the rig but when I asked further about if it was safe he walked off.

This 1/2 ton towable thing has been going on for a few years now, nothing new. Why do you think so many people come onto to this forum asking whether to buy a gas or diesel 3/4 ton after they buy too much trailer?
Ford doesn't help any with the fictitious 11,200lb tow rating.
