As others have implied it is the difference you pay that you should be concerned with. MSRP and NADA values are only guides and should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt. If you buy a $50,000 rig and are given 30 for your trade you pay $20,000 (plus taxes, doc fees, etc etc)to close the deal. If you go for a $25,000 jewel and get a paltry 5 grand for your treasured beater it's still 20 big ones out of your pocket.
Decide what you want, establish a realistic budget and stick to it.

any where from 20 to 40% of it's value AND never, never pay sticker price. if they want your business talk them down to $$ over invoice. also, talk about 10 to 15% off of RV accessories in their store. they will give it to you but you must ask, they are not going to offer it out goodness of their hearts. I have never paid MSRP and never will. I an ordering a triple slide right now, MSRP is 47K, getting it for 35K. other dealers in state and neighboring states are selling them for 42K or more. all because I asked and I got it. One dealer said it's supply and demand, we buy or pay the same as any other dealer, I told him that may be true, but I don't believe in supply and demand and to tell you the truth, you don't sell them as the same prices as others. I got up and left. I won't bother to deal with salesman like that one.

We traded last year. Take the NADA wholesale base amount with no options and figure to get about 90% of that. But that was good considering I now have a new TT and had been trying to sell the old one for 2 years with no results.

We traded in January for a new 2011 that had a MSRP of about double the unit we traded in. I had figured (based on NADA and other research) that my four year old unit was worth about 50% of it's original MSRP, and that the dealer should discount the new unit 25-30%. We set a dollar range that we would deal in (probably won't do any better than $xx and won't deal for more than $xx+$1000). When all the haggling was done and the check written, we wrote the check for about $500 less than the walk away amount. Did we steal the new TT...not a chance...did we get a fair deal...in our minds we did, and that's all that counts. As noted, the dealer is going to make money off the deal. If you do your homework and can walk away with a new unit that you want at a fair price you have done ok. JMHO
