RE: Nervous wife

Get the tires replaced and sign up for Good Sams Emergency Road Side Service and Enjoy! By the way we just renewed our Good Sams....took a trip from Ca. to Wyoming and back. did not use our Good Sams. Until we took a trip to the beach and back home. ( 70 miles away from home) when we got back from our trip, we unhooked the truck and trailer. Truck sat in our driveway overnight, trailer sat on the street overnight. The next day I empty all that I needed out of the trailer, clean up the unit. when my husband came home from work, we went hook up so we could pull the trailer to the storage yard across town. To our surprise....Our tow head assembly was missing off the back of the truck. It even had a locking pin on it. So here we are, no way to tow our trailer, but needing to get it to storage. We called Good Sams....they were at our house in less then 30 minutes...towed our trailer to storage. Our year of Good Sams Emergency Road Side Service was paid off in just one tow...WhooHoo!

RE: Newbie potty question

We follow as many above do, leaving our values closed until almost full then dump the black first and follow with the gray, But there is one more step not mentioned..... Before even getting to the dump station....as we are unhooking and getting ready to leave. I flush as much of the fresh water that is left through the toilet. To do this, I just keep flushing and running water in the toilet so it will go through the black tank. It does get tiresome to sit there and hold the toilet flusher open while clear water runs down.....I have discovered that for our trailer I can wedge the toilet paper roll between the wall and the flush handle...thus allowing my hands to be free. After a few moments I do stop the action, then start up again. I don't want to burn up the pump. We try to do this each time when camping, our logic is the more fluid in the black tank the cleaner it will be dumping.;)

RE: Lexan or plexiglass on my screen door

As a thought when you decide to do this project. Check in your area for a store that deals with these plastic's...We have one here called "TAPS". They sell all kinds of plastics, tubes, boxes, windows, baseball cases, ball cases, etc... We took our screen door off and took it in. The gentleman listen to what we wanted, what we were doing. asked us a couple question, gave us some suggestion. Came back in less then 10 minutes with the panels cut for our screen door. We bought one extra piece to go on the bottom inside as I have a small dog who likes to paw. I bought the one extra piece so when our came up all scratched from the dog then we would be prepared and just be able to swap out. Well that was three years ago. We are still storing the extra piece. Getting the three pieces cut (one extra) cost us a whole $25.00. This method was so eay and fits our screen perfectly. One other point is to remember as you are doing this, you will be at times when you want the panels on and other times you want to take them off to allow for air flow. So you need to look at how to fasten them on. Make it easy for yourself. Please share with us what you do.

RE: 10 toughest tows in America..

Agreed about the Teton Pass (Hwy 22) near Jackson Hole, We drove this towing our 30 ft trailer,.....10% grades....never ever would I care to do this again. Another no repeat would be Yellowstone, Bear Tooth Mountain. Yes some beautiful scenery, but white knuckle driving when you have 8 foot wide and 30 foot long towing behind you. I had did a google search on Mountain Passes.....Ratings from 0-5 with 5 being the scariest. Bear Tooth Mountain rated a #4. Teton Pass rated a #4. All the 5's were in Denver, Colorado.

RE: helping with backing in

There have been horrid stories of someone getting backed over while moving a trailer. First aggreement between you and husband is that he never moves the trailer backward ( or forward) unless you can see each other in the mirror. When I have to tell him left or right we use the terms "driverside", "passengerside" "left and rght" don't work well because you both are looking at different positions. For the most part my husband does most of the backing up himself....he first gets out and views the site, then he tells and shows me where it wants the wheels to line up... I get in position of the mirror, he window is down....then we use both verbal and hand signal ( that he has shown me what to use). the two way radios and speaker phones don't work for us too well. Radios require you to hold them, and the driver needs both hands on the wheel. Cell phone (on speaker) requires driver to raise his voice to be heard....so we might as well just speak through an open window. Remember that when backing up....its never perfect all the time. So those times that are a little harder, just look at the humor in it. And remember everybody who is towing goes through it. So allow yourselves to have a good laugh when needed. Best of luck and most of all enjoy!

RE: CB Radio advice

Hooked up the antenna and CB today.... We have a 2005 Siverado Crew Cab ( with moon roof) Antenna is a 4.5 ft. whip....Mount is a 5"( round) magnetic. Test drive on the freeway for a round trip of 20 miles, traveling at 65-70 mph. The da....dang mount came off at about 17 miles. Not real windy, actually nice weather out. The antenna did not appear to be "whipping" around...and it was mounted at almost the middle center of our roof............so.... I do not know know what in the heck happened. We are almost to the point of saying forget it! Bummer of it...is while driving I was listening to the truckers talk and we seem to be getting better reception then we had with another (Walmart $15.00)antenna. We wanted to use the CB for our travels in the trailer for the exact reason stated above about "road warnings". As far as the walkie talkies....we have used those for Caravanning with 7 other Trailers, and we had better contact using our own cell phones. This past year we have used the CB radio to communicate when we are traveling with others...but like I pointed out we had a weenie of a antenna so we wanted to up grade the antenna....but after the test drive today...ho hum just don't know what to do. Please share what exactky you are using for antennas and mounts (style, heigth, brand, size) on a pick-up ( towing trailer behind). Thank You all for your help.

RE: CB Radio advice

old guy- Seems nothing is made as good as it used to be! About 8 years ago my parents gave us a washer and dryer made by Kenmore....they had already used it for 10 years when thay bought it new...We put another 8 years on it and gave it to friends as we bought a brand new waher and dryer, also made by Kenmore. Since then....we have repaired the washer twice and had bought two new dryes, and today that original set my parents gave to us is still going strong. I am only in my mid 40's of age....but I am already seeing and telling about the good ol' days when things were made better. Just like my parents had said to me. Guess the same is with the Cb radios too. loggenrock- I have heard before about your antenna being a important part of your set up. We have a 4.5 ft. whip antenna (up to 2500 watts, if this means anything) We are looking at the best way to run the antenna wire into a 2005 Siverado Crew Cab....We do not want to drill any holes in the pick-up. We just purchased a 5" magnetic mount for the top of the cab.....After we get this set up I guess a test drive will tell if this is a good match....Antenna still on top of the pick up when we return...Good match! LOL!

CB Radio advice

We are looking for advice on setting up our CB radio on the pick-up to use while towing a trailer behind us. Can others please share what they are using in the way of antennas? Where the antenna sits? How high? Where you ran the antenna in from the roof of the tow vehicle to inside?.... Do you find that the CB reception is different rather you hard wire the CB or hook up with a 12 volt plug? And what (how far) of reception do you get? Many thanks,

RE: Which '120 volt' TV brands are actually 12 volt dc input

We have a 15" Skyworth 12V/Ac television that also has DTV with a DVD player. Sad news is the DVD player didn't last as long as other combo television we have owned....I am in the process to see if we can get the DVD fixed or place a new one in it. Place where we made this purchase....the best place for any 12 volt products.....Truck Stops. I can't remember if we purchased this at a Pilots station or Flying J, but I know both have it. I am speaking of travels on the Cailfornia roads....but I'm sure other states of Truck Stops. Good luck and report to us if you find anything.

RE: Stopping Scratching

To help with a dog scratching, I once read where someone put on a sock on their dogs paw....of course you would have to find away to hold it on. Maybe some medical tape on top. I would maybe even use a childs sock if you are interested in doing this. Poor baby!....Best of luck.

RE: Oh! those yapping dogs....

Pawz4me- You have some really good points. And you are right about the physical/mental tiring. My oldest dog that seems to get wound up is very bright and her hearing I believe is sharper then the average dog. She has been this way since puppy stage....You will probably laugh her, but she will watch the television and reacts to it. Sounds of excitement either by people or music gets her going. She also responds to the stereo..... I remember one time when we were working in the backyard we had the stereo playing and all of a sudden my dog went nuts whining and barking and running in and out of the house looking for something....On the radio was the "Wells Fargo" commercial. The horses at the end of the commercial would get her going. She had seen this commercial on the television and remembered it. As far as the Kongs, and Raw bones....we do this. I put the Kongs and Bone in the freezer, and bring them out only for the time we leave....when we get back shortly after we are back I collect the items and put them away. Window and blinds are shut and radio is on low soft rock music. Noooooooowwwlinds .....when this all started I had forgotten to shut the blinds and put out the bones. But I did the next day to "test" and they made lots of noise, but that is when we had the motorcycles going back and forth.

RE: Oh! those yapping dogs....

calvinator- You made me laugh with your introduction...."dog pro here". Great sense of humor. We do exercise the dogs...... they are two poodles (miniature) and love to play with each other....so when we don't exercise them, they exerise each other LOL! I guess I should give more details about the dogs temperament. Nikki just turned 5 yrs. We got her at 8 weeks old....she used to be on the hyper side, but has really settled down in the last year. We think her age is settling in. Paige is two years younger (turning 3 in Oct.) and she is so mellow. But they both play well together. From the beginning Nikki has always been strongly attached to me. Husband says it's like she gets depressed if I am gone from home overnight. Ever since Nikki was a pup she would whine if I got out of the vehicle. We have tried some behavior corrections, but haven't really had any success...plus Nikki settles down when I am out of site. We think because of Nikki is the way she is, she gets Paige wound up. Well when it comes to being in the trailer....same behavior...a lot of whining when I have to leave, but then they settle down and stay quiet the rest of the time. Now to explain this other weekend when this behavior got out of control.... We were in a campground....and there was also a motorcycle group there (25 bikes between three camp sites) The motorcycles kept going back and forth...(sometimes every 15 minutes). This seemed to trigger the dogs....when I was out of the trailer and just a few campsites away (they could not see out or hear me). Now my husband drives a motorcycle and Nikki tells me when he is about two blocks away. She will go stand by the front door and whine and get excited before I can even hear his bike down the street. Trust me Nikki's hearing is sharper then the average dog.... So I think she was reacting to the motorcycles, but I am concerned as I don't want her to create a new habit This is why I am concerned and want to make sure this does not happen again. I am looking for something to correct the behavior when it happens. But I need something that can help as this only happens when I am not near them. This is why the Ultrasonic Control boxes appeal to me.....I am not crazy about the collars but might have to use one ( not the shock collars, only interested in the noise ones or the ones with a scent spray). I know I am years late on correcting this behavior, but like I said we have not had this problem before....and Nikki has been camping with us since we brought her home.

RE: 2 dogs vs. 1 dog-separation anxiety question

Ours are two years apart....they get along great and still bond with us. Infact we got the second dog for the first dog....best thing we could of done. We got the dog a dog. I do not have experience with having two puppies at the same time. Here is a website with people with lots of dog experience. www.furkids.net there are many different forums on there, but the "poodle" forum stays most active, yet not all have a poodle that post there....give the site a try.

RE: Oh! those yapping dogs....

I did not include this in my beginning post as I did not want to make it too long... Since the Memorial Day weekend when my dogs misbehaved....I have purchased a Ultrasonic Indoor Bark Contoller....the method seem to work on my dogs, but the unit did not work right. I had to use the manual button to set it off. It is suppose to to it automatically when the dog barks.... Well I have another Pet Store that is within 2 miles of home....so I found out they have the same product. I went and bought one there. To see if it is the product or bad unit. Welp, this one acted the same. Sooooo....My daughter and I went to return the first unit. ut we took the dogs to do some testing..... The method does work. There was a few times my daughter pushed the button and the dogs stopped the barking. Another time my older dog (5yrs) while on our front lawn heard the neighbors kids and started to run over to greet them.....this is normal behavior for her. When my daughter pushed the button, the dog turned around and headed back. First time she has done this. Ya-hoo! When I came home I got online and read about this units review by customers....this seems to be a common problem and everyone who has complained were told to return the unit for replacement..... I will not purchase this brand again, but I did purchase a more expensive or better features unit by a different company online. If this works, I'll be excited....if not then I might go to the collars (Not the shock ones) and only put them on when the dogs have to be alone in the trailer. We usualy do as mentioned above and we usualy have someone with the dogs in the trailer or the truck....but sometimes they need to be left alone for a short period of time. This has not been a problem in the past....we only had the Memorial Day weekend become a problem... But come July the trailer and dogs will go with us for my daughters wedding in another state.....and they will need to be alone for about 3 hours. So I am working hard now to make sure we don't have a repeat problem. On the weekend that this started I think we had something happening that triggered the dogs....it was a noise form outside that I could not control....I cross my fingers that this was the problem... Still would like to hear others experience and advice.

Oh! those yapping dogs....

I have two small dogs..... When I leave them alone in a vehicle (for very short time) they whine and yelp when I walk away, but soon quiet down when I am out of site. I know this is the case as we have tested and spied many times. Now for camping in the trailer....same thing....they hoot and howler when we leave, but then quiet down....... Except this was not the case a few weekends ago. They both made such noise....OMG! I was embarrassed to find out, but now I am in the process to figure out...was there something that triggered this? Or did they discover a new habit:E God, I hope not! But I do need to be prepared as camping season is just beginning and plus at the end of July we will travel with trailer and dogs to my daughters wedding and the dogs will be alone in the trailer for up to 3 hours. So what I need to know is what do others do with THEIR barking dogs? I am most interested in the Ultrasonic Indoor Bark Controllers......but not the collar type. Does anybody have experience with these? What brand would you recommend? I have tried the Petsafe Indoor unit and this is not working....not a problem with the method...it works when I use the manual button and the dogs respond....But the unit has issues with the automatic feature.(I've tried two of these and same thing). Any other methods?

RE: rant ???

Ok let me tell you MY problem... I have two small dogs and we take them camping all the time. The dogs do whine and carry on when we first this leave the trailer. (And we are only gone short periods of time). We have done this soooo many times and have always checked with the others we camp by, we will also leave our cell phone number. We have always gotten the same response..."oh, they whine or yepled for a few minutes then quiet down and didn't hear a peep the rest of the time" or "after a few minutes never heard a sound".... Well a few weekends ago, this was not the case....My dogs hollered soooo much! and I was gone from the trailer for 45 minutes....not long, but it is a looooong time when you are the one listening to barking dogs! My neighbor camper let me know polietly when I got back.... I am so happy she let me know because now I know what happened while I was gone...I did not know they had made noise (because I was not there) and this has not been a problem before. On this weekend something was taking place in the campground (another noise) that might of triggered this behavior....but at this point I really don't know! I am in the process of figuring this all out. Now my message is...... If my fellow camper did not let me know that the dogs were barking....I would not of been clued in. Please let your neighbor camper know if the dog is barking....there are nice way of saying things....if you are concerned how a verbal message would be recieved, then just put a "I just want to give you the heads up...." note on their door. Best of luck..... And by the way for those that have advice on methods or know of bark training methods for dogs while left alone I am interested in hearing...I will start another thread on this.

RE: Awning problem....fabric peeling

Thank You, I had a feeling this would be the answer. We are thinking of maybe putting some vinyl glue on the fabric to slow this down.
