RE: Supporting a TC off the truck bed?

When ours is not being used, its on 8 concrete blocks, 2 stacked in each corner with a 4x4 across the front & back. When we take it off the truck camping, I lower it to about 18" off the ground and have a short 4x4. I put it vertically in the front to help support the weight on the front jacks. This takes a lot of the wiggle/movement out. I still have the front jacks down, but most weight is on the short 4x4.

RE: front mounted bike racks

Whatever rack you choose, find one that keeps the bikes low or out of your headlights. We had the wife's and my bikes on the front of our pickup. I had no problems seeing through them during the day, but when night fell and the rain kicked in CRAP! Driving at night and rain sucked. My headlights were shining back at me and the rain made visabilty worse. We had to stop in the rain, remove the seats, shift the bikes to get the posts out of the way of the headlights. It made for an interesting trip. And Yes, this happended on the first trip with the bikes on the front. LOL.

RE: camper shopping

I watched Craigslist and RV Trader for about 6 months. I looked at about a dozen. We were looking for used and within our price range.

RE: yellowstone national park

We stayed at Grizzly in September. Wonderful park that is convenient to West Yellowstone. Staff is very professional. If you want to take a bus tour, they will pick you up there. Sites are reasonable size and meticulously maintained. Not as cheap as other parks in the area, but we did drive through some of the other parks and you get what you pay for. Recommend the wolf and grizzly center which is right down the street and the town museum. If you like Mexican food, try the white bus.
We stayed at the Grizzley RV in summer of 2009. Its a great place and close walking distance to down town West Yellowstone. Its clean, nice looking grounds, they clean the bathroom/shower daily and have a little store too.

RE: The Truck Camper is a Great Bug Out RV!

Great article. I've thought about keeping ours stocked in case of an emergency. In winter time, how do you keep the water lines and tank from freezing? Keep a small space heater going all winter. How long can you keep the water in tank before it goes bad? If it does?

RE: 20 lbs - Horizontal Tank question

I had our valve replaced at Ferrell Gas. I think they are nation wide. They can also re-certify the tanks also.

RE: Why get huge camper versus....

We have a bigger camper because we have 2 kids (ages 5 & 8). We need the exta space for all our stuff. I also like the extra counter space between the fridge & dinette. If it was just the wife & I, I could see us downsizing.

RE: Quick trip thru North Cascades...

Great thread. We have friends with property in Winthrop in the Twin Lakes area. We loving going over N. Cascades Hwy.
Steamboat Rock is a really nice campground. Banks Lake water level will be lowered 40' for mainteance. There might be a lot of interesting stuff to see with it that low in late Sept/Oct.
