RE: electric jack

I have had three Atwoods over the past 20 years or so and never had a single problem with any of them. I would consider them "top of the line". Barney

RE: Owners Manual

Hi Sharpesh00ter, and WELCOME to the forums. I think you will find a great wealth of knowledge here and a lot of helpful, experienced folks. If you have not discovered it yet, we have an excellent FAQ that contains links to various subjects and is organized by type of question. I think you will find it very helpful. I addition, we have a whole forum devoted to how the forum operates. You do not need a minimum number of posts in order to post pictures or anything else. Here is a link to how to post pictures in the forums. If you need any help, please PM the moderator of that forum or put a post in asking for help and he will get with you. Barney

RE: Roadtrip gas grill help

anyone figured a way yet to get the roadtrip hooked to the big tank without double regulating it? That is what this year old thread is about. You have received some good suggestions on ways to do it. Have you tried any of them in the past year since you originally posted this thread? :h Barney

RE: accidentally plugged in 240v to 120v camper....Help!!!

I had an electrican put in a 30amp plug for my TT but he hooked it up 240v instead of 120. Fried the converter and microwave. AC and everything else works fine. Electrican came out and fixed his mistake. The exact same thing happened to me quite a few years ago. Had to replace the converter and microwave. Barney

RE: Tongue weight and hitch selection

Not ALL bars should be parallel or level with the tongue. Usually only the round style bars are parallel with the frame when drawn up properly. The trunnion style usually slant downward to the rear a bit. The one main exception that I can think of right now is the Equal-i-zer brand hitch. Their bars should be positioned so that they lay flat on the L bracket, which usually is just about parallel with the tongue but not always. Barney So if they need to slant down I guess I need to tilt the head? Yes, tilting the hitch head down will adjust the attitude of the spring bars. I am not sure about the Blue Ox bars though. If I remember correctly, they come straight out of the hitch head sockets and with no downward slant as normal trunnion bars do. They may very well need to be closely parallel with the A frame or slightly pointed down in order to keep the chains from binding during turns. The whole purpose of having an angle on the bars is to keep the bars and/or chains from binding with the snap-up brackets during sharp turns. If there is no binding then you should be ok. A normal trunnion style hitch has the trunnion head ends with a built in angle which makes the bars slant downward when installed. The Equal-i-zer and Blue Ox I think do not. In any case though, you do not want the ends of the bars pointed up, and would need to tilt the hitch head downward to correct. Barney

RE: Rookie mistake -forgot to pull the plug

Take a look at the clock/timer on the microwave. It it is lit and flashing then you have AC power. If the clock is not lit then you don't. Barney

RE: black tank sensor

If your toilet is a straight shot down to the holding tank like mine is you can use one of these tank rinsers. I use it at the end of the camping season or whenever the tank sensors start acting up. If your tank is not a straight shot, they also make a rinsing rod with a flexible end to go around shallow bends. Barney Tank Rinsing Wand http://i.imgur.com/v2nni.jpg

RE: what type of caulking

What keeps it from running down if its a vertical side? The ProFlex is a very thick, sticky caulk. It will not run. I suppose the Dicor self leveling caulk could run or sag if applied on a vertical surface. I have never tried that as it is not designed for that application. Barney

RE: New Andersen WD hitch

Don't worry about changing the tongue weight when using the Andersen hitch (or any hitch for that matter) as the hitch does nothing to change tongue weight. It only changes the amount of weight that the truck sees. The tongue weight, and therefore the tendency of the trailer to sway or not, is the same whether a WD hitch is used or not. The only way to change the tongue weight, and possibly affect stability, is to move weight around in the trailer in front of or behind the axles, change the tongue length, or move the axles themselves. RE: How do you secure your breakaway cable to your hitch?

I hook mine to a loop built in to the frame and use a carabiner. Barney http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/barneys/RVnet%20pictures/IMG_1780.jpg width=450

RE: Barker blue tote and Hensley stinger

I carry a hollow drawbar with a 1-7/8 ball on it. Doesn't weigh very much and only takes a small bit of room in the back of the truck. Barney

RE: long hitch shank?

Snip... But on non-WDH setups (such as my boat) a longer shank does derate the receiver because there are no load bars to offset the negative effect of the leverage. Agree!! :) Barney

RE: Opinions on UnderWeight Hitch Setup from dealer

You don't need a dealer to purchase a Hensley. Almost all of them are sold via phone calls. Hensley Mfg. Barney

RE: Fixed busted window in door, and a preview of Zep Wet Look

Great job! :) Now, if you really want that door to look like it just came from the factory, take the yellowed window trim off the outside and paint it with white Krylon paint. I did both doors on mine about 4 years ago and they still look like new. Also did the refrigerator vent and the yellowed plastic attachments for the lighted grab bar on the entrance door. All of these items still look white and new. Barney

RE: long hitch shank?

Huntindog is correct. I used to believe, like many others, that the longer shank would cause more pressure on the receiver and the receiver should be de-rated BUT, after much thinking on the subject, came to the conclusion that Yes, given the same pressure on the WD bars via the chains, the forces on the receiver would be greater, but in actual use, you would NOT NEED OR USE the same chain link to draw the bars up because of that greater leverage or pressure, so you would use fewer chain links or less pressure on the bars to get the same results. Therefor, the forces on the receiver would be exactly the same - neither greater or lesser. (And I have never been an engineering student, either first or second year! :W) :B Barney

RE: Roofing, use of Aluma-Kote?

I re-did my roof with Liquid Rubber this past winter while down in Florida. I posted all about it here. I think I spent less than $400 on the whole job. Took me about two days. One day to clean and mask the trailer. The second day to cut in the edges and do the whole roof. The hardest thing about the whole job was climbing up and down the ladder! :B If you look at that post, make sure you go further on in the thread and see the results a week or so later. It came out fantastic!:) :) Barney
