RE: Fifth wheel towing options?

snip...
I really have my doubts about putting a gooseneck adapter on a 22-year-old trailer. Even if it were rated for such stress when new, it's 22 years old now, the equivalent of 91 in human years.

You're fine! Trust me, I know. I work for an RV dealer. We see a lot of heavier rigs go out of here all the time.

RE: lubricating equalizer hitch

Superduty,
The Equal-I-zer hitch is ENTIRELY friction based. The main friction control occurs at the interface between the WD bar sockets and the hitch head. When you load the bars by drawing them up the upward pressure between those two points is tremendous. This is the main sway control on the hitch.
The secondary sway control comes from the pressure put on the L brackets by the WD bars when drawn up. There are two L bracket/bar contact points and two bar socket/head interface points - hence the "4 point" sway control that Equal-I-zer claims.

RE: Just picked up - Dealer experience

Snip...
It almost seems if we are expecting "perfection" from the RV industry, we are setting ourselves up for disappointment. These campers seem to be most enjoyed by folks who like to tinker and get their hands in there and get dirty ! I am loving it, I feel lucky that I am able to have the money and time to pursue this pastime, so I'm enjoying every aspect of it.
Good luck with it, and have fun with your camper. And I would suggest if you don't already know "all about your camper", then take the time to read, study and play with it until you figure it all out. Remember, we're dragging an entire house down a very bumpy road....HVAC, plumbing, two entirely separate electrical systems, etc, etc. Things are bound to break, get tweaked and go out of adjustment.
george
Good post George! I agree 100% with it! :) My present trailer and my previous trailer have never been back to a dealer for anything. Any problems, and they were few and minor, I have taken care of myself.

RE: 210WRS and 1/2 Ton towing

I have found that, if you add about 300lbs to the advertised "dry" tongue weight, the result will be pretty accurate in most cases when you are loaded and ready to go camping.
Any thing or weight you put on the truck, including hitch weight, goes against the payload.

RE: Painting roof What to use?

I did not have any air bubbles. The bubbles that I did have seemed to be the rubber membrane itself softening and raising up. They all went away nicely though.
The drips just peeled up - once I got the end started, which was not hard.

RE: Painting roof What to use?

John,
The recommended thickness was 20 mills which was supposed to come out to about 40 sq. ft per gallon. I used just about all of my 5 gallons for my 30 foot trailer so, minus the roof openings, it came out just about right. I would say mine is about 20 mills thick.
I do have some areas that could be measured as you can see in my two end cap pictures the tape line but I have no way of measuring it.
Interesting note. I have a couple of pieces that dripped down and then cured. Those pieces are really and truly rubber. I can stretch them just like a rubber band (after I removed them).

RE: Painting roof What to use?

Here is what my roof looks like now. You can also see how it is possible to paint the Liquid Roof material up around stanchions and other things like antennas etc. Please forgive the couple of bugs that decided to stick around for the duration of my trailers life. :R

RE: Painting roof What to use?

Barney,
what do you do when you get to the AC unit, Vents and all the other items that mount to the roof?
I removed my two vent covers but left the air conditioner in place. After "cutting in" around the vents and all the other items up there I replaced the covers before doing the rest of the roof. By removing the covers, I was able to extend the rubber coating up on the vent framing.
The rubber roof under the air conditioner looked ok and the gasket didn't leak so I didn't want to disturb it by removing the unit.

I just finished using the product in the link you gave. It did a great job on my roof. You can see the results in the pictures, and the procedure I followed, in my post here.

RE: Painting roof What to use?

John,
The finish looks almost identical to when the trailer was new, maybe a bit smoother. It does not feel like it should be particularly slippery but, of course, I have not been up on it yet.
Have no idea if it will be less prone to black streaks but would sure be nice if it did. :B

RE: Painting roof What to use?

It has been 11 days since I did my roof with the Liquid Rubber. The roof now has an eggshell appearance and all the bubbles have disappeared. There are still a few shiny spots under the Fantastic Fan overhangs and on the edge of the roof on the shady side. Those spots will probably continue to cure and turn like the rest of the roof has with a bit more time. I am very happy with the results! :B

Great post above about the construction of the coupler John! Ron may be the "king of links" but you are without a doubt the "king of detailed picture posts"! :)
I have the same coupler and, until your post above, have never known what it really looks like inside. Great pictures!!! Thank you for your posts.:) :) :)

RE: Trailer Sway

This can be done at a truck scale for less than $20. If the OP wrecks because the sway gets out of control, will it cost more than $20?:S
No, it can't. Not unless you want to get beaten/shot by a line of angry truckers waiting to weigh their rigs while you fiddle around unhooking your trailer on the scale.
I have weighed my rig numerous times at a Cat Scale and have never held up a line of truckers. It only takes a couple of minutes to lower the jack, unhook the chains at get a weigh. You watch to make sure that there are no truckers coming towards the scale before you begin. If there are, you pull around and try again. I agree about holding up the truckers. They are "on the clock" and we shouldn't delay them.
To the poster that said it would cost $300 for a tongue scale, I, and numerous others on this forum have purchased a Sherline tongue weight scale for about $125. I personally know at least a dozen people that have one so it is not unusual. I use mine frequently to make sure that my trailer is loaded correctly, especially when we are loaded to go South for the winter or any other extended stay longer than a couple of days.
