RE: Phillips RV, MI - Dealer Experience - Our new TT!

We purchased a rig from them MANY years ago and the experience was just as you described. First class operation all the way around. Glad to hear that nothing has changed. :) Barney

RE: passengers riding in the 5th wheel on a reg basis ?

Well, we are far from the original topic and now discussing things not even related to the subject of this forum which is "Towing". Time to close this one. Barney

RE: Elastomeric coating before or after installing vents? pic

Barney your roof looks great! And you did it in a campground wow. Looking into the Eternabond now, may use the 2" tape on the seams and edges. I think I would use 4" wide tape. You want some overlap to insure a good watertight seal. I used all 4" on mine. If I remember correctly, member LarryJM used some 2" in his roof job. You might take a look at his web posting about it.

RE: First weekend out - Freezing temps

I would disconnect the water and drain the hose and filter if you are using one. I would bring the filter inside the RV for the night. Make sure you run the furnace and not just rely on an electric heater for the night. This will help keep the tanks heated enough to avoid freezing. Also, open some cabinet doors inside the RV to allow heat to circulate to the pipes that run inside those cabinets. Barney

RE: Tag trailering: anyone use a safety pin/clevis?

I use a combination lock in the coupler latch. Prevents any mischief at a rest stop or any time we leave the rig parked someplace. Also have a stainless locking pin on the shank/hitch. Barney

RE: Elastomeric coating before or after installing vents? pic

Were it mine, I would install all the roof vents and other items first and make sure they were installed properly. I would then go over all the roof seams (front, back, joints, protrusions, etc.) with Eternabond Tape, and then coat the entire roof with Liquid Roof, making sure to get the material up around the vents frames and all other roof protrusions. You can see the results of what I recently did with my roof using the procedure I just mentioned here. There is another post further on in that thread showing some more pictures here. Good luck with your restoration.:) Barney

RE: Fifth wheel towing options?

snip... I really have my doubts about putting a gooseneck adapter on a 22-year-old trailer. Even if it were rated for such stress when new, it's 22 years old now, the equivalent of 91 in human years. Snip... :? :h Barney

RE: dealer run around

You're fine! Trust me, I know. I work for an RV dealer. We see a lot of heavier rigs go out of here all the time. MM49 That doesn't mean they should be! :E Barney

RE: Tire Pressure Question

My rig handles best when I run 80lbs in the rear and 75 in the front. (load range E tires-80lb max) Barney

RE: lubricating equalizer hitch

Superduty, The Equal-I-zer hitch is ENTIRELY friction based. The main friction control occurs at the interface between the WD bar sockets and the hitch head. When you load the bars by drawing them up the upward pressure between those two points is tremendous. This is the main sway control on the hitch. The secondary sway control comes from the pressure put on the L brackets by the WD bars when drawn up. There are two L bracket/bar contact points and two bar socket/head interface points - hence the "4 point" sway control that Equal-I-zer claims. Barney

RE: Just picked up - Dealer experience

Snip... It almost seems if we are expecting "perfection" from the RV industry, we are setting ourselves up for disappointment. These campers seem to be most enjoyed by folks who like to tinker and get their hands in there and get dirty ! I am loving it, I feel lucky that I am able to have the money and time to pursue this pastime, so I'm enjoying every aspect of it. Good luck with it, and have fun with your camper. And I would suggest if you don't already know "all about your camper", then take the time to read, study and play with it until you figure it all out. Remember, we're dragging an entire house down a very bumpy road....HVAC, plumbing, two entirely separate electrical systems, etc, etc. Things are bound to break, get tweaked and go out of adjustment. george Good post George! I agree 100% with it! :) My present trailer and my previous trailer have never been back to a dealer for anything. Any problems, and they were few and minor, I have taken care of myself. Barney

RE: 210WRS and 1/2 Ton towing

I have found that, if you add about 300lbs to the advertised "dry" tongue weight, the result will be pretty accurate in most cases when you are loaded and ready to go camping. Any thing or weight you put on the truck, including hitch weight, goes against the payload. Barney

RE: Painting roof What to use?

I did not have any air bubbles. The bubbles that I did have seemed to be the rubber membrane itself softening and raising up. They all went away nicely though. The drips just peeled up - once I got the end started, which was not hard. Barney

RE: Painting roof What to use?

John, The recommended thickness was 20 mills which was supposed to come out to about 40 sq. ft per gallon. I used just about all of my 5 gallons for my 30 foot trailer so, minus the roof openings, it came out just about right. I would say mine is about 20 mills thick. I do have some areas that could be measured as you can see in my two end cap pictures the tape line but I have no way of measuring it. Interesting note. I have a couple of pieces that dripped down and then cured. Those pieces are really and truly rubber. I can stretch them just like a rubber band (after I removed them). Barney

RE: Painting roof What to use?

Here is what my roof looks like now. You can also see how it is possible to paint the Liquid Roof material up around stanchions and other things like antennas etc. Please forgive the couple of bugs that decided to stick around for the duration of my trailers life. :R Barney Overall view, morning dew shows through. http://i.imgur.com/bblTT.jpg width=640 Front cap. The bubbles that were there on the edge are gone. http://i.imgur.com/h0E6D.jpg width=640 Radio antenna.
