RE: New page format???

It's interesting that I put this in General as I thot it was a subject for discussion and not a problem I had and they moved it to technical instead.

replacement dinette seat cushions

I have to replace the cheapie foam that comes in the dinette seats of most trailers 'cuz it's pretty well smooshed out after 4 years. I went to two local shops and they want over $250 to replace the two seat bottoms with heavy density foam and that's only the foam.
What I'd like to do is to replace them with ones like we saw in a couple of MHs that we were looking and they were an upholstered seat with springs and padding, but I can't find any listings for them..
HELP !!!!

RE: Being "level" with slides out

What bugs me is when you pull into a site, get'r level, put the jacks down tight and then run the slides out.. Annddd, guess what, you're about 1-2" off level with them out. I even tried putting heavy jack stands under the left side and it still torques the level..Bummer

RE: Jayco 32BHDS owners

I have a Cougar 304BHS which is about the same as the Jayco and also have the 7.3PSD 2001 "EX". I am towing around 8600# loaded and usually run around a 1100-1150 tongue weight, verified with my Sherline tongue scale.I have an Equal-i-zer with 1200# bars(you need a different head for 1400#)setup,after market sway bars(not Ford, too light) and heavy duty shocks from Les schwab.I run with around 30# in the air bags and used to run 80# till I discovered that was way Too much..I love the Equal-i-zer for it's ease in hooking and unhooking and after a major problem with my trailer springs last spring,I wrote them and told them that I wasn't too happy with the way the trailer was handling after the repairs and they gave me some suggestions for things to change. I did so and it turns out that the instructions are for a generic set-up and they are more than willing to help you.Once the rig is setup right an Excursion is a towing monster..They just didn't market them for the towing market, they were designed for soccer moms instead. The biggest difference between the gas and diesel is the MPG's.Before I got my DP Tuner I was running about 9.5 towing and 12 around town. I was getting 6.5 with my 454 3/4 ton 'Burb. Now,the last trip out,of around 500 miles,I got 11.2 and our trip to Tahoe from Bremerton and back (freeway, two lane mtns and the 101 up the coast)was 10 flat.
For the guy with the Tundra, you are pulling Wayyy too much trailer with that truck, even with Hensley...Just wait till you're going down hill and have to stop in a big hurry or even on level ground. That trailer is going to come around on you in a big way.I just saw the very same set-up as yours up against the side of a bridge the other day with the whole side of his truck and the trailer ripped out. I let his wife and kids sit in my rig till the tow guys got them loaded on flatbeds. He was pulling in a heavy rain with side gusts up to thirty mph and it got away from him and he said the trailer just threw the truck around. His other comment was "the dealer said that he could pull it 'cuz he had enuff power to do it" I nicely suggested that he go back to the dealer with all the bills and say "sure it could pull it,but that's all it could do." I gave him my card and he said he'd call me and let me know what happens.

RE: Help with Warranty Decision

I have had Good Sam ESP on the trailer for several years now and have had two claims that have paid for themselves. One was paid in full, large claim, and the other one they paid 1/2 on and that was to replace all the springs, shackles and hangers that were either broken or cracked and the trailer was riding on the axle.
There was never any hassle and the repair shop said that they have had very little problems with them turning down claims..I am also in no way involved with them, just a happy customer.

RE: Northwest Spring Rally, May 14-16, 2010

It's possible that if you have air brakes, then it's the pressure relief valve and not your jacks..However if the MH lurches when you hear the bomb go off, then it could be the jacks... Or a bomb...

RE: Verizon and Gateway LT

That's what I'm looking to do now.I kinda like the smaller unit so that I can use it in the car with roads and streets ,etc for routing and don't have to get a GPS and can quit using my Env2 phone with Vz navigator.. The screen's too small...
Gonna head for Berst Buy tomorrow and see what's there. The reason for BB is that I have some gift cards..

RE: Blood Test Mania!!!

How's the electrical problem coming.I saw by your last post that the inspector is being an a**.
We had a simple box replacement done fuse box to breaker box and the inspector nitpicked the job that had been done by a friend that was a master electrician and an apprentice instructor and wouldn't pass it and shut down our house. The electrician called the county and they had another guy out that same day and it passed with no problems.
Good luck with your projects. My cousins have just retired from the FDA and moved to their farm outside of Clearville,Pa. which they have been working on for several years.Sure,Clearville isn't big enuff to have an inside and outside..

RE: Never again Directv rant

You rant Direct this week and it will be someone ranting Dish next week seems like it goes back and forth.
I wonder how long it will be until "for our convenience" they merge the two.
The way I understand it from my installer, they will either be merged or just be sharing billing from Qwest. I wanted Direct when we got it so that I could get one bill and bundle it all for a savings and was told that probably by the first of the year I'll be able to do that.
I s'pose that then the service will be doubly bad.

Verizon and Gateway LT

Got an ad from Verizon today for several great phones and equipment. I can get a Gateway LT for $0 and all I have to do is a new 2 yr agreement and Mobile Broadband.
Is this a decent computer for light things, like looking up CGs online, checking email, etc,or not. Don't need any super computer when on the road.Does this thing work like your phone and not need wifi. I believe that you can use it with wifi too...

RE: Blood Test Mania!!!

I like the vet very much, she went to WSU vet school, but their standard rates are ridiculous..
You are absolutely correct. These fees are outrageous, IMHO. Our vet doesn't charge for surgical follow-up visits and many other things he could. In these difficult financial times, it is not surprising that so many beautiful pets end up in shelters and even put down because the owners can't afford those expenses. Your cocker will no doubt repay you many times over for your loving care. Thanks for taking the little guy in.
Heck,I wuz just looking at the cocker forum and a breeder in Ca is selling his last litter of show dog puppies and I really want another cocker.I was the one that didn't want a dog, I'm allergic, and the DW did,so we got one and now 7 months later I want another..Who cares about allergies, unless they're really bad and I'm not breathing diesel fumes from driving the school bus all day, sooooo.

RE: Blood Test Mania!!!

We recently acquired a Cocker, free and sight unseen,w/o knowing their myriad problems, and absolutely love him..Took him to Petsmart to have him checked over,5 months old,but he still wasn't too sure he wanted to be there, especially when she tried to insert the thermometer in the wrong end. Actually any place turned out to be the wrong end as far as he was concerned. We were charged $50 for that totally wasted visit. Then we went to a local vet place that has been around for awhile, but is now VCA,and had him checked for his ear infections and foot licking.$85.PLUS medications for the ear infection and wipes for the foot and the recomendation that we start feeding Iams or wellness because of allergies. We're still feeding Accana Grasslands and really the dawg seems to be accepting that ok.He is also on plain Benedryl daily and it is twice the amount that we get it for from the drug store,so that's where we get it.
Now for the fun part.Neutering,at 13 months..$400 includes all the meds, the procedure, the cone and pain pills.Ok,so fine..oops forgot to tell you that the pre bloodwork is another $90 and when we took him back in two weeks for his stitch check, they set him up as ear infection and ,oh by the way, check his stitches.$75 for the ears, includes the stitches.Yikes...
We're in process of looking for another animal friendly vet office.Don't get me wrong,I like the vet very much, she went to WSU vet school, but their standard rates are ridiculous..

RE: Highway 101 North of Seaside OR and Astoria WA

I can't think of anywhere that you would have trouble with your rig. We're planning on that trip this January with our 35' TV on the way back from San Diego to Silverdale 'cuz I absolutely HATE the Five now. There are some slides right now,but they'll be cleared in a short time. We'll probably cut across at Raymond and come home thru Montesano and up thru Shelton,BUT the Olympic Peninsula is a NOT to be missed trip.Take your time and there are a lot of side trips that are MUST do.We have come up that route over the last few years twice early April,July and Oct.

RE: Coast to coast pulling a 20-25 foot trailered

As has been said before, you should have no trouble with any of that route.I would really make sure that you get everything on the TV checked and upgraded and everything in the trailer tightened up.Get all the brakes checked and re-done if needed and aqbove all,I would advise carrying extra mounted tires as spares for both the TV and TT when you go up to Alaska.Get towing coverage also, but make sure that you have the proper equipment to be able to change your own tires as it's kinda few and far between service station in places.I would suggest as extra equipment a good battery charger and a good air compressor along with,at least,a 6ton screw jack,a couple of jack stands and a 1/2" heavy torque wrench and sockets for the wheels.I also carry a good 4-way tire iron.

RE: Oregon 101

Man,I'm glad I didn't go to Florence last week.Just got back from Maryhill SP and all we had was snow when we went up to Goldendale.. The trip up from Portland on the five was the worst weather I've ever pulled the trailer in.HEAVY rain and lot's of road spray, glad the DW wasn't with me on that run.,15-30 mph winds from the left rear quarter of the trailer and then swinging around to straight cross winds.. So I spent some time getting off the shoulder and fighting the corkscrew effect from the rear wind.. I'm sure glad that I have my Equal-i-zer hitch.Saw a Tundra and about a 30' up against one of the bridges and both had the right side all torn up.NO SWAY bar...Lost it when it started whipping and couldn't get it stopped.Says his auto dealer said that he was ok pulling that trailer with the 1/2 ton Tundra as he had enuff power to get out of trouble and really didn't need the sway bars. He did have w/d tho. I let his wife and kids stay in my rig for a few minutes till the tow trucks showed up. They had to load the trailer on a flat bed.

RE: Rt 66

I did sections of it thru Kansas to N.M in my Trans-am a number of years ago and the challenge was finding the sections and where they left the interstates. Now I understand that there are pretty well illustrated maps of the sections.
Another famous route that actually has a lot more of the route left is Rt 30 and I have driven sections of that out of the Joliet area,I wuz born there, all the way to the west coast and regularly drive some of it from Longview Wa to Astoria Or.I was just on a section in the Columbia Gorge a couple of days ago pulling my 35'TT and thot that I could see the back of the trailer on a couple of switch backs.I remember the old days when it was two 9' lanes with little curbs on the sides and all along the way were roadside picnic areas with water so you could both drink it and cool your cars down..

RE: 14.9% interest!!!!

My local bank got in trouble with the loan situation 'cuz they had a bunch of those loans going to Countrywide and didn't get rid of them before the bust and was taken over by another local bank. Sooo, the other bank charges a service fee on both my checking and savings and a fee when I use an outside ATM...The old bank charged no service fees and REVERSED all ATM charges.I have an account at two CUs and the bank and as soon as I can, I'll cancel the bank and use the two CUs. The new one is charging me 7.95% on a VISA and 4.25 refinance on the trailer and 4.59 refinance on the Excursion.Had both of those at the bank at 8.99% and 9.75% and moved them first. When I have my checking account set-up,I'll change my electronic deposits to them and will get another .25% off.
