Terrible Service

This was the second time that I needed to have a tow from my own driveway in the past 5 years and ran into the same issue. I am not impressed with Good Sam Roadside Assistance.
I have a 2004 Ford Excursion Diesel and over the weekend I noticed that there is a leak coming from underneath the truck of a red fluid that kind of looked like transmission fluid. When I started the truck it started flowing out at a fast rate near the bottom of the radiator. I'm assuming that it is the transmission cooler or a pipe coming into it that is the source of the leak.
The fluid level on the dip stick was still good but I wasn't about to risk driving the truck to my Ford dealer which is 8 miles away so I called GS Roadside Assistance today to have it towed to the dealer. The operator tells me that they can only tow it to the closest authorized repair shop that they show in their system which is a Firestone garage a little over 4 miles from my house and if I wanted to go to the Ford dealer I would be responsible for paying for the extra 3.5 mile towing charge.
I explained to her that I was not going to let a Firestone mechanic mess with anything possibly transmission or engine related in my diesel truck and I wanted to go to the dealer which has a certified diesel mechanic. I've been a member of the GS Roadside Assistance for 7 years and my renewal date is May 31. I explained to her that if I had to pay for the additional 3.5 miles I would not be renewing my membership next month. After being placed on hold again she comes back and said that is the policy and I am responsible for the additional mileage.
Before giving her my credit card information for the mileage charge I decided to ask to speak to her supervisor so they would fully understand that they will be losing a customer as I won't be renewing next month. After another long hold she comes back on the phone to let me know that she talked to her supervisor and they will tow my vehicle to the Ford dealer at no additional charge. All told they had me on the phone for 30 minutes over a 3.5 mile tow!!! This is a terrible way to conduct business. Not only did they waste 30 minutes of my time they tied up a phone line and a customer service rep for 30 minutes over something she should be authorized to fix on her own in the first 5 minutes. I wasn't asking to be towed an extra 25 miles just 3.5!!!
I had the exact same experience a couple years ago when I wanted our other vehicle towed to a dealer instead of Firestone and that time the dealer was only 2 miles farther away. Same issue of requiring me to pay for the difference and again it took being on the phone for close to a half hour to get the extra mileage approved at no charge.

RE: Looking for a nice campground Lake George NY

For camping with kids we have stayed at both Lake George Escape and Lake George RV Park. Both are on the pricey side but both offer plenty to do for families with kids. We recommend both and will be going back to both again next year.

RE: Chocolate Moose

We drove by their location back in July when we were in the area and there was no sign of new construction other than what was started back last fall. We really hope they get everything going again as we would like to stay there someday.

RE: NY Balloon Festivals

It's been a few years but we participated in the Adirondack Balloon festival and had a great time. I would recommend.

Help with an Electrical Question

A week ago when we were camping we had a very strong odor of an electrical fire when we were using our Suburban SW10DE water heater in 120VAC mode and we noticed that the metal AC junction box was extremely hot to the touch. We turned off the AC power to the water heater and used propane only the rest of the week that we were there.
The location of the junction bow was impossible to open up for an inspection without pulling the water heater out the side of the travel trailer. I finally had a chance to do that today and found the wire nut connecting the two black wires had completely melted away and the insulation on the black wires had also melted away for a good 2 inches. The white wires were in good shape except for the wire nut that had started to melt from the heat of the black wires. I'll attempt to post a picture below.
I'm guessing that the connection between the black wires in the wire nut was poor which lead to high resistance and heat from the amount of current that the water heater element draws. That lead to arching of the wires which corroded them which increased the resistance and made the problem even worse. Does this sound like a reasonable theory?
I'm hoping that there is nothing wrong with the heater itself. I cut off the charred wire and reconnected them by soldering them instead of another wire nut and insulated them with heat shrink tube. I didn't get time to fill the tank back up with water and power it up today but should get a chance tomorrow.
I think we were pretty lucky that this problem occurred during the day when were were in the RV and smelled the odor and not while we were away somewhere else in the campground or worse yet while we were sleeping at night. I'm pretty sure that would have lead to a fire how hot the metal junction box was.

RE: Suburban SW10DE Problem

Thanks for the reply. The positioning of the junction box is so close to the side of cabinet that is impossible to open it for inspection. I think the entire water heater will need to be removed from the outside which is beyond what I want to attempt myself. I'll be calling a dealer when we get home

Suburban SW10DE Problem

We are in the middle of a week long camping trip and are having an issue with our Suburban SW10DE when operating on 120VAC. We are getting a strong smell of an electrical fire and the 120VAC metal junction box is incredibly hot to the touch. We stopped using AC and switched to using propane to heat the water. We would prefer using AC because we also have an awning screen room and the water heater vents CO2 right into the screen room.
The water heater is original equipment in our 2005 TT and we never had an issue with it before. I am going to attempt to open up the junction box today to see if there is anything obvious such as a loose wire but the location of it is awkward to get at. Doe anyone have any suggestions?
I'll try and attach a picture and see if it comes out okay.
