RE: The Battery as a Dog

Cute.

RE: The effects of uncontrolled sway.

No, DO NOT let off on gas as that makes sway WORSE. Hold gas steady, or speed up slightly. Then put brake controller emergency slide full on and hold it there, then slowly let off gas. During all this DO NOT hit TV brakes. TT brakes will stop sway, and slow you down. Then let off emergency brake controller override, Then gently put on TV brakes, pull off road, change shorts. Been there, done that, worked for me. Now I have an Equal-i-zer.

RE: Basic lumber assortment for leveling

I carry two sets of plastic legos. It takes more than one set to get front tire off ground using block ramp under rear tire, if I get a flat. I carry a Rotochok to put between tires that are up on blocks. Tires on ground just get plastic wedges.

RE: The effects of uncontrolled sway.

It really does happen, hope all doubters read this thread. IMO sway control is a good idea because someday you may be coming fast down a hill, in a crosswind, when a big semi goes by really fast. Friends of ours had towed for years without sway control when above happened to them. Fortunately nobody was coming other way as they lost it and rolled everything several times. TT and TV totaled, pieces blocked both lanes, but no permanent injuries. If sway starts you have only a few seconds to remember NOT to touch the TV brake, but to use the override on the brake controller to straighten the whole mess out. Yes that will always work and stop any sway if you are quick enough, but I don't believe in tempting the Gods. Be careful out there.

RE: Bean Bag Mount for Garmin Nuvi?

Beamer is a motorcycle, Bimmer is a car, both made by BMW. Windshield on our Bimmer is fine for driving, but not really big enough to put anything blocking our vision. Just our opinion.

RE: slipping dishes

Never had doors come open. Does your 5er have shocks? If not, can you add them? We don't put anything between dishes, but only carry a few. We did put antislide stuff on cabinet bottoms.

RE: Trailer Brakes Squalling - Vert Loud

As above, better pull the drum. Likely a shoe has all pad gone, or metal piece caught. Hopefully not a bearing.

RE: how much cribbing?

We also carry two sets of ten. One set is not enough for us to use to make a ramp for REAR TT tire so front TT tire is off ground.

RE: Winterizing Done Except Propane

I just get mine filled, then turn them off. That way if power goes out in stick house, or whatever, we have a backup.

RE: Bean Bag Mount for Garmin Nuvi?

Don't blame her, my wife doesn't want it stuck to her Bimmer either. Been wondering about bean bags

RE: Diners along the way

Not a diner, but ... Don't miss great Navaho food at resturant/motel at turn off main road for Canyon de Chelly. Ask anyone, they will know name. We go there from Colorado once every few years just for the food. Best Navaho food we've found. Makes me hungry just thinking about it. Code Talker room is interesting to see while there.

RE: Good Sam Emergency Road Service

I also wonder why you want to change. We went from GS to Allstate when we found out about numerous exclusions with GS (one example is GS doesn't cover cargo or flatbed trailers, Allstate does. There are several others).

RE: Installing small solar panel to trickle charge the battery ?

5W will work fine IF there are no parasitic loads like propane or smoke detector. I pull one fuse when stored to eliminate all parasitics. You need to use an ammeter to verify parasitic drain.

RE: My first 5th wheel trip coming up... flat tire question?

We bought a Pressure Pro TPMS just for that reason. We've read that often folks do NOT know they have a tire problem until someone flags them down, by which time lots of damage is often done. Love my Pressure Pro.

RE: New Tires, How Old?

To each his own. I agree with store prior to order/purchase that tires will be no more than 6 months old per DOT code. We also agree on country of origin. We check before mounting. Does it always work for me? I admit last time tires were 7 months old, but this was unusual. Store apologized and asked if I wanted them, or should they reorder. I took them. IMO also get new metal valve stems (rubber seals same age as tires), and have them balanced.

RE: Need advice on replacing microwave

Yes watch size. One other point. Ours was fully enclosed in a cabinet. Thus MW needed to be the kind that had front vents. So be very careful of venting if enclosed. We finally bought at Camping World to get exact fit with top and bottom venting to front of MW.

RE: winterizing fluid in hot water heater

I also always let some get into water heater so the plumbing stubs for the bypass get protected. One point, dripping? Didn't they put plug or anode back in? IMO leaving hole open invites things. You do NOT want mud daubers in there for example.

RE: Greasing wheel bearings

Dexter Ez-Lube worked great for me for over 30,000 miles. New HTTTH doesn't have them, sob. I hand did one bearing by hand every other year so I could check brakes. Slow pumps from hand grease gun is fine IMO. Air grease gun is NOT.
