RE: installing a dishwasher

We installed a Fisher-Paykel dishwasher in our 2008 Winnebago Tour and love it! I did the install myself (see Dishwasher Install for pictures) and was very pleased how it turned out. We fulltime and for the past 14 months have used it virtually everyday -- absolutely no problems. The best part is that it really cleans the dishes and uses LESS water than doing them by hand (as little as 2.5 gallons per load). We have been at several rallies without hookups and routinely run the dishwasher to conserve water. Works great. Feel free to PM me if you have questions.

RE: About to tow HHR for first time - How does yours tow

We have been pulling our HHR for several months and 10,000 miles with no problems. Works great, easy to tow, and actually fun to drive.

RE: What's up with Pilot?

Guess we are the minority here since we actually like most of the Pilots we have been to. Always use the truck lanes, pay cash and have never had any problems. The wife goes in with an estimate of fuel needed, arranges the cash, and we fill up. Plus, Pilot seems to have the best coffee (that is the real reason we stop there!)

RE: retirement motor home

We have fulltimed for 2 years in our 40' coach and have had very few problems with small spaces. We have used a number of state parks around the country and find that if we show up on a Monday - Wednesday, we can talk to the ranger at the gate and they can find a good site for us. We make it a point to avoid state parks on the weekend if at all possible due to crowds.

RE: auto vs manual sat dish?

We have had the manual type and now have the automatic Kingdome. I love the automatic! Just hit the switch and a couple minutes later all is done. Now my wife does it (what a tough life!) -- she would never mess with the manual one. M

RE: Are newer diesels equipped with Particulate Filters?

We have an 08 Winnie Tour on a Freightliner XC chassis with a Cummins 400 ISL engine with new EPA emissions. I have gotten over 8 mpg over the past 22,000 miles with no problems at all. The regen feature has not yet run to my knowledge. Interestingly, the 400 Cummins seems to be getting at least as good MPG as our smaller 2004 Meridian with the Cat C7 engine, so I am very well pleased thus far.

RE: hhr base plate

I installed our baseplate in an 09 HHR and had the same problem with the fished bolts. We ended up loosening everything (instructions states all should be tightened before the "fishing" takes place) and finally got them fished through by using a heavy fishing line (literally). After that, no problems and the HHR tows great. See HHR Tow bracket installation

RE: basement air conditioning

Our basement AC works great and actually seems quieter than our friend's roof air. I also much prefer having a large, residential furnace filter versus the little foam filters. Finally, we have used our basement AC in temps up to 107 and it worked well -- and I could run it wide open on 30 amps (why is it always hot when we have to hook up to 30 amps??).

RE: Brake Buddy Customer Service

We have used our Brake Buddy for 2 solid years of fulltiming. The compressor began to get loud and I called Brake Buddy who said to return it. They repaired it, quickly returned it to me and covered everything under warranty. I think this is a very classy outfit and I have enjoyed using their product which works as advertised.

RE: Well Traded for a differant toad - Chevy HHR

I think you will enjoy it! Our HHR has worked great. We installed the tow bar (Roasdmaster) and it has worked out well. Hope you like your HHR!

RE: Tow lights - Magnetic vs wired diodes

We did not have room in the HHR tail light for an extra bulb, so I added LED lights to the bottom of the bumper (above the federal height requirement of 15" off the road). This has worked great, and there is no interaction with the factory systems. See this Click for pictures.

RE: Florida Ocean Cruise RV Parking

We took a cruise from Port Everglades in May and stayed at the Great Outdoors RV park. We signed up for a couple weeks with a private owner and explained it would be vacant for the cruise week -- we got a very reasonable rate. We kept our Golden Retriever in a kennel in Canine Villa -- they did a great job.

RE: Cat C-7 rear radiator fan hub bearing failure

For what it is worth, when my bearing failed on our 2004 Meridian with the C7, it was quite load at idle. You could clearly hear that something was wrong as soon as it was cranked up. I was also able to move the fan several inches fore and aft. If I still owned that coach, I would certainly try to detect movement by hand (engine off, please!) once a year or so. Since this incident, I have made it a point to walk around the coach while it idles before taking off in the morning.

RE: Cat C-7 rear radiator fan hub bearing failure

I had one fail on our 2004 Meridian. When it failed, it sounded like a deep rumble at idle. I removed the rear engine cover and could move the fan several inches back and forth. The coach was towed to the Cat dealer (from Wall, SD to Rapid City -- thanks Good Sam ERS) and fixed under warranty. The Cat dealer said our engine had the "no lube" hub. Our fan failed in 2007 at about 21,000 miles.

RE: Have U paid cash instead of waiting for warranty approvals?

We just had several items fixed under an extended warranty at the Winnebago factory service center. They called the warranty firm, got fast approvals and it was fixed immediately. I wonder if your service firm is not moving things forward for some reason.

2 years of fulltiming and counting!

I just realized that we have been fulltiming some 2 years now! Wow -- where did the time go? Two years ago this week, we auctioned everything we owned off and entered the fulltime life style (the empty house took a few months to sell, but it is gone too!:B) My wife and I discussed it today and agree we are having a real blast. We have seen things we only dreamed about and met many great folks. The problems have been few and even those have provided some interesting opportunities (we needed repairs in San Antonio, TX, so got to see the Alamo). All in all, it has been a great two years and we look forward to many more. If you are considering trying the fulltime lifestyle, we would suggest that you go for it. I can't believe the number of folks who say "I wish I had done that, but now I can't" (usually due to health issues) -- how sad.

RE: South Dakota Mail Forwarding -- Anyone unhappy with them?

Here is another happy MyDakotaAddress user. Terri has done a super job for us for the past 4 years. I also like the small town with the easy to work with DMV folks.

RE: Price on Winnebago Tour

We have an 08 Tour and have had 18 months of great fulltime use. This is a super price in my opinion and the coach is great. I do not understand the "poor wood working" comments -- ours is great and has held up wonderfully. I'd jump on it.

RE: Best 'kind' of vehicle to tow behind RV?

Another vote for the HHR. We have towed our 2009 over 6,000 miles this summer with excellent results. We used a Roadmaster tow plate and installed it ourselves. Took about 4 hours, but works great. We have a few pictures of the install at HHR Towplate pictures

RE: Coach advice needed

I would suggest you test drive several different coaches. I believe you will find that many air suspension Diesel coaches will perform well. I know that when we looked at that type of coach after towing a trailer, we were amazed. Best wishes.
