RE: Disappointed in Interstate Group 24"s

I called a couple of Winnebago dealers about the batteries. They said the compartment is designed for the group 24's. They aren't designed for the added 30lbs. the batteries in series vs parallel or the added capacity for a 45 amp converter/charger. Should have a 55 or 60 amp.

RE: Travel to Yosemite on Friday.

We were just up there this past weekend. We go up 5-7 times a year, all seasons except summer. If you are in a hard sided trailer, I would suggest doing what we do. We leave on thursday evening after work and drive up to the Chukchansi Casino just south of Course Gold on Hwy 41. They allow free over night parking in their lot. It's about a 4 hours from the San Fernando Valley. We go into the casino for a late dinner. Next morning, we have a short drive to the park enterance. You could get up early and take either Hwy 41 or Mariposa to 140 depending on the weather.
Be advised that they are doing road repair at Chinquapin on Hwy 41 right at the turn off for Glacier Point Rd (Glacier Pt Rd is closed). We had no delay, but the sign says up to 30 minute delay.
Enjoy

RE: Disappointed in Interstate Group 24"s

The length and width are fine, it's the height that I'm concerned about. My battery compartment has an enclosed fuse button panel mounted on the left top that will limit the height to 11 inches. If the height of 10 7/8 for a T105 Trojan includes the posts, then I'm OK. The post will be more towards the center. Won't know until I try it on Saturday.

Realized that the T-105's are about 15 lbs heavier each. I am going to have to add some bolts to the plastic battery compartment to handle the added 30 lbs.

I called the battery shop that MrWizard suggested. They have both Trojan and Interstate 6volt. Difference is Trojan is $20 more per battery. Are Costco's batteries less expensive?

RE: Disappointed in Interstate Group 24"s

the compartment is 12 1/2 inches wide and the the group 27 is 12 3/4. won't fit. But the T-125's might. How much extra amps will that give me? I know the group 24's is 85 per battery. or 170 per pair.

RE: Disappointed in Interstate Group 24"s

pianotuna- I have them connected with the neg or ground attached to the rear battery and the pos to the front. I think that's what method 2 is. They originslly csmr with both attached to the front battery and crossed. I took the neg off the front and attached it to the rear battery.
Also, I cheated on recharging the batteries. Do to the limited generator hours, I hooked up my 40amp battery charger to the batteries. I doubled the rate of charge to the batteries and cut charging time. It is a multistage charger.

MrWizard- my compartment is 12 1/2"wide x 16"deep x 11"H. I have a fuse panel enclosed on the side that limits the height to 11". I think the T-125 might just fit. Good thing the fuse button panel is enclosed.
Do you know how much more amps it will give me over the SMR24 Interstae?

Disappointed in Interstate Group 24"s

Back in 2005, I installed an Intelli converter with the charge wizard in my 2004 class C. The converter has done a great job in keeping my batteries fully charged. We go out once a month for 3-4 days and a long trip in the fall of 10+ days. My disappointment is in the longevity of the Interstate batteries. They come with a 24 month guarantee and that's about all they last.
On our trip this last weekend, the batteries were fully charged prior to our leaving water level still full. It was cold up in Yosemite with the temp dropping down to 24. We only used about 50 amps per day according to my battery monitoring system. I ran the generator for 2-3 hours per day and brought the level up to 80%. It should have been higher for the time run. At night, the voltage dropped quickly down to 12 volts when the furnace was on and a light or two. In the past, it would be about 12.2-12.3. Then last night, it dropped down quickly to 11.8 and this morning before I could run the generator, it was down to 11.4 volts. The battery monitor showed I was down 50% in amp drain. The 2 batteries were 28 months old. Time to get my 4th set. I checked and there isn't enough room for 2-6volt bateries becasue of my compartment size. They would be too tall.
There is a Trojan dealer about 25 miles from me. Is it worth the drive to get Trojan group 24s instead of Interstate?

RE: Steps powered by engine battery not house!

I found why the engine battery went dead. We neglected to unplug our Garmin from the lighter. It was face down and we didn't see it ON. Drained it over the almost 2 months of sitting. The battery was original and almost 7yrs old. Time for a new one anyway. I don't feel so bad now. Another senior moment.

Steps powered by engine battery not house!

I had my class C sitting around the house for 6 weeks hooked up to shoreline power. I pulled off the cover to begin prep for our trip later this week. The DW and I went inside and started cleaning. I opened the door to step out and the steps went out, but not all the way. I didn't notice it and stumbled. My wife said to be careful and came dow the steps and lost her footing too. A closer look revealed the steps were only partially opened. I closed and reopened them. They operated slowly and didn't open all the way. I know my house batteries are full and thought the motor was bad. Then I remembered the engine battery was almost at end of it's life. But why would it be connected to the engine battery? I checked the voltage and it was 9.4 volts. Little charge indicator on Ford battery was RED. So I went out and bought a new battery and now the steps fly out fully opening.
I guess we are never too old to learn something new.

RE: Can Honda Ridgeline be towed on dolly?

Stennis- I was thinking the same thing about the rear end. I could swear I've seen Ridgeline toads behind a few big DPs. Maybe they were on trailers???

RE: Can Honda Ridgeline be towed on dolly?

Brobox-the Ridgeline better suits are needs. The fact That I can't tow it wasn't that big a factor as we still can tow my DW's CR-V if needed. I always wanted a 4wd and this is very versatile. I need a vehcile that I can put plywood or a household appliance in and have comforable seating. The others were too big or too small. This has a trunk in the bed and drives like an SUV or better yet a carnot a truck .Loaded with leather and a moonroof.

RE: Honda Ridgline wiring harness

Went to Honda dealer this evening to get a door seal replaced. I asked about the trailer wiring. Seems there is an adapter that I can buy at any auto parts store for it. So case closed. Thanks.

Honda Ridgline wiring harness

we bought a Honda Ridgeline as our family vehicle. Not as a tow vehicle at this time as we have a small class C. We may downsize to a small light weight trailer in the future. I looked at the wire plug and it looks different from the 7 prong that I have on my Winnebago. In my glove box is a wire for towing. I'm at a loss. Any help would be appteciated
