Thetford side pedal flush fell off :<(

I sent the following comments to Thetford using their web comment box and a copy to Keystone for feedback. Keystone sent a courteous reply within 24 hours. It's been two weeks now and no response from Thetford. "We received our new Montana fifth wheel in September 2010. It was ordered from the factory so had not been sitting in a dealer lot. It came with a very nice Aqua magic Style II toilet. This past week-end the flush pedal fell off and would not stay re-attached. It was disappointing to find out that there is only a one year warranty on the unit. It was also disappointing to read stories on the internet from many other RV’ers having the same or similar problem. Some units require the user to lift the flush pedal after operation in order to stop the water flow and close the trap. There appears to be a common premature component failure in the flush assembly of the Style II. We will have to replace our unit and have noticed that Dometic/Sealand models offer a two year warranty coverage. Thanks" While staying in Sarasota area, I spoke with two Montana owners with 2011 and 2012 models. Both had a problem with their commode flush pedal. Is this a common problem with the side flush pedal. It sure is missed when it's out of service. Dave

RE: Tetford Aqua Magic Style II Toilet Issue....

Our foot pedal fell off this week-end after 18 months as well on the Style II. Looks like the slot where the spring slides into is worn so there's no grip to hold the pedal on. I'm going to try and epoxy where the spring tip slides into the pedal. One year warranty on such an item is poor. Checked for replacement toilet if I have to get one and Dometic/Sealand appears to be two years. Their 310 model is popular and about the same price as the Style II.

RE: Sea Foam in the Honda 2000 or other generator

I just recently picked up Seafoam to put into the Honda tank as well as our other small engines. The label says it can be added to the diesel fuel in our TV. I thought IPA was a definite no no in a diesel engine. Something to do with seals and injectors I think... Dave

RE: AZ & FL, a couple of differences!

We're heading for Sarasota in a couple of days and it's not going to make the traffic any better by highlighting the good points about Florida. Please only post negatives regarding Florida and all the positives for Arizona and RGV :W We did RGV two years ago and Tucson and Sedona last winter. Everyone currently in Florida should go there :B Thanks Dave

RE: Captain Kirk...your new Travel Trailer just landed!

Mr Spock. How do you expect us to get to the planets surface in that. It may look like a shuttle Spock. But it isn't. That seams logical captain. :B

RE: Tire pressure ?

Whoa.... TMI.... I have no idea what you said... I have no idea what my actual weight is on the trailer, and there are no weigh stations... Can you break down that answer to lay mans terms? Sorry William. Without knowing the weight on the tires and not having the load inflation table for your tires, the safest advice is to do as RoyF has suggested. Load inflation tables provide the tires load carrying capacity at a given pressure. This link shows an example for the tires specified in the table:

RE: Tire pressure ?

We're in the same boat but our tires have much higher capacity than the weight they're carrying and they can be 20 pounds less than the max cold rating on the sidewall. Ideally if you know the weight on the tires and can search on line for a load/inflation chart for your tires, they may be able to carry the load at that pressure. Our tires go up about 10psi after 30 minutes on the road so I don't go through the ritual of removing the TPMS sensors, airing up, then back down once we are in a warmer climate. Our tires are max cold 110psi and I do have the load/inflation table and base my decision on that. Dave

RE: How do you fly your flags?

Might I add to the OP's question without the intent of high jacking the thread, what is the protocol regarding relative flag size and position if displaying for example the Canadian flag and U.S. flag while visiting a U.S. RV park? Dave Dave, While in country US flag should be either highest of all flags displayed or the farthest left as seen by the viewer (in your case from road). Thanks NHFirefighter.

RE: Towing with snow tires

Snow tires like all season will have a weight capacity rating. If they're properly inflated and are rated to carry the load that exists with the trailer connected, you're good to go. IMHO Even softer stud-less snows provide the traction needed in a slippery situation that wouldn't be there with all seasons. Dave

RE: Good on Goodyear!!

Good for Good year. They took care of the cost to replace one of our G614's before it caused any damage. When I saw Teton Homes in your sig, my first thought was very heavy. If those were G614's, I'd agree the 17.5 H rated should have been under that rig. Some folks we know have had G614's blow under a Mobile Suites but they didn't have TPMS. I believe DoubleTree is now installing the 17.5 H on new rigs.

RE: Hamilton to Orlando

We also choose the crossing based on weather. We normally have gone via Windsor but tried Buffalo last December and had snow on the Erie side. It was the easiest crossing we've experienced but it was boxing day. We also try to stop at the Kentucky Horse park first night. From there I75 down. Leaving late December this year. Second night's stop to be determined. DW wants to try Stone Mountain in Georgia. Have to see how far off the path that is. Have a safe trip. Dave

RE: Mini oil heater in bedroom

We have two of those heaters and have used one in the bedroom often during cold nights. We too used aluminum foil to cover the surface directly behind the unit. If the unit was set to high so that it would be on almost continuously, the fins would be very warm but wouldn't burn if touched. We found that setting it on half kept the room warm enough for sleeping. We eventually went with a Sunbeam mattress pad heater and comforter and don't use a bedroom heater any more. It draws 160 watts max with both sides on. We only have to set it to 2 or 3 on a cold night so it actually is cycled off most of the time and draws very little power. A cold mattress being so thick never seems to warm up from body heat so the pad heater creates a warm surface to lay on and warms the blankets before you get in. Just turn it on about 20 minutes before. This is great if traveling and stopping at night for stopovers in cold weather. The whole trailer can be cold and the first thing we do after connecting park power is turn on the pad heater. The rest of the trailer can take a while to heat up but the bed will be warm as toast. Another bonus is a generator on eco mode will run on minimum to power the pad. That way the genny can run for the maximum run time. Dave

RE: Carriage Cameo 32FWS

I've seen one occurrence on another brand where the rubber separated at the front cap seam and caught wind while driving causing it to peel back and tear. There was little evidence of adhesive on the plywood. If the front area looks secure and flat, there shouldn't be a problem. We have some ripples on our current rig and did have on our previous. The EPDM carries a 12 year warranty by the manufacturer of the material but that wouldn't cover improper installation. Dave
