RE: How many miles per gallon do you get with Ford V 10

Our 2004 E-450 consistently gets around 8 - 9 mpg doing 62-65 mph (and it's a little taller than most Class C's at 11'6"). If we pull a toad - it takes about .5 mpg off.
The best mileage we ever got was on US Highways (avg speed 55): around 10+ mpg
Worst was using E-85 gas blends in the Corn Belt - around 6-7 mpg

RE: One Thing

We didn't exactly leave home without it - but on our trip to Alaska, about 3 days into the trip, Hubby left the pressure regulator attached to the campground spigot. Naturally the very next campground we stayed at had signs warning of extra-high water pressure posted all over - so we had to buy a new one from their camp store $$$$$$$

RE: Why not put the Toyota in neutral?

I saw the man with the runaway Prius in an interview - and he WAS asked why he didn't put it in neutral: he said he was afraid it would "flip"??? (Maybe because he was careening in and out of traffic, he simply didn't want to be distracted....not that a cell call wouldn't distract you....)
But a police car pulled alongside, and told him (via the external loudspeaker) to stand on the brakes (and conveniently, they were headed uphill) and as the car slowed to 50 or so - that's when the police car pulled in front and helped stop the Prius.

RE: Good News and Bad News About Bella

Often it would be when I would walk by (and I had to pass the yard to get from the house to my car. Almost like they were fighting for my attention.
I can "hear" the conversation:
Lab: "Oh BOY!!! Here comes my Mom!!!"
Boxer: "No.....she's MY Mom"
Lab: "No she's not, stupid"
and so it begins.....

Very elegant photo!! My eyes were just drawn to HER gorgeous brown eyes :-)
Thanks for noticing her eyes.
I converted the photo to B&W and then added the eyes in color.
Cheers
Chris
Very nicely done -although I wonder how one would know if it was a color picture or Black-and-White if the subject is a black dog with a white background....LOL!!!

I've noticed the fishing line over some hotels pools located by the beach before - probably to keep the gulls away??

RE: "The Clan" / When Calvin’s Dreaming...

Pops - you should have told him "Seek the Ball". That's the handiest skill to teach your dog - the ability to find something for you....LOL!!
My kids had been playing in our pool, and a 6" ring had gotten thrown out of the pool and under our 2' high deck by accident. The kids told Nick (our late Aussie) to "seek the toy" because they didn't want to crawl under the deck. Nick brought back a tennis ball. They told him to seek again - he brought back an empty can...LOL!! Hearing all this, I pointed out to the kids that Nick didn't know what they were looking for - so one kid dove in and brought up another dive ring - I showed it to Nick and said "This is a ring. Seek ring" and he went and got it for me :-)

RE: Good News and Bad News About Bella

We also need to keep in mind that we mere humans do NOT understand what the dogs are saying to each other. I understand that their body posture can be "read" (and I'm generally good at reading it)- but I still think they can subtly express thoughts of disdain/dominance and we don't pick it up.
Example: we were sitting around a campfire at our stick house; and my 2 dogs were there, plus Rocky the wonderful Malamute from next door. Ike, my Aussie, has always LOVED Rocky - they were best pals. Rocky had been standing next to my chair - and I petted him briefly (didn't say anything, just let my hand run down his head a couple of times). About 30 seconds after that - without warning, Ike flew across the front of us and attacked Rocky!!! Ike is the most social guy in the world when it comes to dogs, so I was blown away.... of course when I yelled "knock it off!" - he backed right down. And the two were fine with each other the rest of the evening. And it's not like I never paid attention to Rocky - he was notorious for telling me "I love you" (yeah - he could really say that!) and I'd always give him a kiss and a hug - and Ike never cared.
I *still* think that Rocky had said "Hey stupid - your Mom loves ME more than YOU!!" that night; and I also find it ironic that Rocky never fought against Ike's attack, even he could have killed Ike in the blink of an eye.

I agree that a car shouldn't get airborne with a nudge from behind - if NASCAR's gonna "let the boys take their gloves off"; they need to address this car-to-aircraft tendency.....

RE: Shuttle launch

It seems to me there's a wildlife sanctuary on the N side of Kennedy Space Center?? Hubby and I were going to drive there, to watch a launch; but opted at the last minute to simply stand on the beach in front of our rented house in New Smyrna Beach. And even being 50(?) miles away - we could see it and HEAR it clearly!!!!

RE: Good News and Bad News About Bella

My Cattle Dog Jack had been a stray on the streets of Ann Arbor for about 6 months the Rescue Group said - but he got by, by begging scraps of construction worker's lunches (and I'm sure eating whatever was available anywhere - he STILL will scarf a piece of God-only-knows-what that he stumbles across). And I have to believe that he realized that if he could beat out the other strays - he'd get more??
When I got him, he was off-the-charts food aggressive around my other dogs - I fed him in his crate. He's long been over THAT - but to this day - he has a "thing" for large dogs (and even more so if they're black)...sigh. If you walk by with a 300 lb Rottie - Jack will have to kill it. When my daughter visits with her big black poodle mix Spot (the sweetest dog!) - Jack has to wear his shock collar to remember NOT to bite Spot. Jack is 10 yrs old - I'm not sure he'll ever get over this fixation. And he's great with people/kids/babies/small-to-medium sized dogs.
We have a big family, and all my adult kids own dogs (imagine that?). So every time we need to introduce a new dog into the extended family - we would take all the dogs to a "neutral" place where they could run and play....and after Jack could watched everyone getting along; and WITH the shock collar/"IQ Booster" set to "stun"....he'd be let offleash. There'd be a lot of raised hackles and posturing..... but he would eventually accept the newcomer; and let them come to our house.
I know Cesar talks about dogs being "in the moment" - but *I* believe that some might still carry a little baggage.......

RE: ....I was thinking about the Twin Towers tonight....

But there's always been groups (or individuals) of evil people in the world. After the Columbine school shooting tragedy - they reminded us that the WORST school tragedy occurred in Bath Michigan when some lunatic blew up a school in 1927 to protest taxes - 42 people were killed, including 33 children.
I think the difference was that it wasn't "caught on film".......

RE: Soppranos trivia (question)

I can't help you with that question - but I always wondered what "gabbagoo" was??? (Obviously a phonetic spelling of one of Tony's favorite foods)
At one time, there was a glossary of words/lingo used on the Soprano's program on their website at HBO - but it usually referred to people or situations - not food. And a lot of those were not suitable for a family-friendly forum....LOL!!!!
gabbagoo is capacolla lunch meat, it is round and has redish tints in it from the spices. its a little hot. most all stores have it.
Not where *I* live (out in the boondocks)....LOL!!
On Edit: I looked up capicolla ham on Wikipedia - and they even reference the Soprano's pronounciation :-)
