RE: good sam emergency road service

I have had GS since 2002 and have used them 3 times. Each time the service has been very good. Also had Coach-Net last year (came with my purchase of the HR). They sent out a service man that didn't know what he was doing and caused more problems. In their favor, the next day they sent out another service man who knew his business and resolved the problem very quickly. This year I renewed with GS.

RE: Answers: Which is better? Gas or Diesel ?

I agree with Gramps in a lot of what he said. My gas rig has a fiberglass roof, 22.5 wheels, Allison 6 speed transmission that also brakes going downhill. I also find the 8.1 Chevy engine doesn't have trouble going up hills. The article is very one sided. It must have been written in the mid 90's.

RE: Signature with full wall slide

I like my full wall slide. No problems in over 100 days of use and 10,000 miles.
Monaco was still building the FWS in 2009.

RE: UPDATE ON NAVSTAR PURCHASE OF MONACO

The following was reported Today by RVeNews.com:
Jun 04
Done deal: Navistar completes purchase of Monaco for $47 million
Greg Gerber posted on June 04, 2009 09:41 Article Rating
WARRENVILLE, Ill. -- Navistar International Corporation announced today that an affiliate has completed the purchase of certain assets of the recreational vehicle manufacturing business of Monaco Coach Corporation. The purchase price is approximately $47 million.
“Navistar’s entry into the RV business through the purchase of certain Monaco Coach assets fits our strategy of leveraging our assets to expand our diesel business, serve the end customer through robust parts and service, and will complement our Workhorse chassis business,” said Jack Allen, president of Navistar’s North American truck group. “The Monaco brand is a market leader with a strong reputation and Navistar is pleased to add it to our portfolio of leading brands and businesses.”
Monaco Coach Corporation, one of the nation’s leading recreational vehicle manufacturers, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy relief last March 5 in the District of Delaware. Headquartered in Coburg, Ore., the company had manufacturing facilities in Oregon and Indiana and its RV offerings ranged from entry-level priced towables to custom-made luxury models under the Monaco, Holiday Rambler, Safari, Beaver, McKenzie and R-Vision brand names.
The new company, named Monaco RV LLC, will be a wholly-owned affiliate of Navistar Inc., Navistar’s principal operating company, and headquartered in Coburg, Ore.
Purchasing the Monaco Coach Corporation assets out of bankruptcy allowed the assets, inventory and intellectual property to be purchased for a significant discount, while not assuming the liabilities of Monaco Coach. Facilities included in the purchase are located in Coburg, Ore.; Harrisburg, Ore.; Wakarusa, Ind., and; Milford, Ind.
Production at Monaco Coach Corporation was halted prior to the bankruptcy filing and Navistar said that Monaco RV will resume production at certain facilities in the coming months.
“Providing the RV market with the right vehicles at the right time will be Monaco RV’s first order of business,” added Allen. “Our management teams will spend these first few weeks ramping up the business at a pace commensurate with demand.”
Although the new company is not liable for any product sold by Monaco Coach Corporation prior to the purchase by Navistar, customer service representatives will be available to aid RV owners in providing service and support for their vehicles. Owners with questions should call 877.4MONACO for assistance.
Navistar announced on March 26 that it entered into a non-binding agreement to purchase certain Monaco Coach Corporation assets and would work through the bankruptcy court to purchase the assets. United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, Bankruptcy Judge Kevin J. Carey approved a final Sale Order on May 22.

RE: HHR towing

I had a switch installed in my HHR. They put it in series with the fuse line. Makes it easy turn the key to ACC, transmission in N, Parking brake off, flip the switch and go.

RE: Wuold You Buy A Full Wall Slideout Model?

We bought a full side slide model. We really like it. We have gone across the US and back with over 100 days of use. So far, no problems. It works better than my two slides in my old RV.

rokitman - Welcome to the forum. Don't feel bad about asking your question. It wasn't impolite. Most threads on this forum zig-zag anyway. This is the first time I have seen a posting such as Jwither wrote. The purpose of this forum is to help each other out. Please feel free to post again.

RE: Full Wall Slide: YES or NO?

Monaco uses the semi (sp) monocoque (sp), framing and maybe there lies the problem. I was at a monaco dealer and inquired about full wall slides, and asked why they don't offer any more. He stated that everyone of them had structure problems and had to go back to the factory for repairs, so they discontinued the full wall slide.
I find it strange though that no owners mention having any problems! Are there any Monaco's out there with full wall slides?
That dealer is so full of BS. He states "that everyone of them had structure problems and had to go back to the factory for repairs". Well ,not every one because mine has never been back to the factory. My guess is that he didn't have a unit that had a FWS and knocked them to show you one of his stocked units. My trouble free Holiday Rambler with a FWS was built by Monaco.

RE: Full Wall Slide: YES or NO?

Monaco definitely did drop the full wall slide due to problems. Fleetwood may be OK.
One thing that I don't like from an enginnering prespective is the big hole in the side of the RV. Like Home Skillet said, it is a weak design and will cause a lot of flex.
tinkerer's comment of leveling only confirms the problem with flex.
Monaco did not drop the full side slide. They built them in 2007, 2008 and were still building them in 2009 when they shut down the factory. I have one and I would vote yes. I can walk from one end of the MH to the other when the slide is in. My Holiday Rambler manual says to put the slide out, then level. There is no flexing of the MH. We have driven across the country on some very bad roads and the MH remains very solid. Another and very important thing is that the DW really likes the openness of the floor plan. Whatever the wife wants makes me happy. Besides I also like the layout.

RE: GPS Magellan vs Garmin

I have owned both the Magellan and Garmin. Both give good directions and easy to use. The Magellan was poorly built and fell apart on me. Had to be glued in several places and not much longer after that it died. The Garmin is well built and has given excellent service. I will go with Garmin again.

If you already have two digital TV's, you do not need a converter box. Your TV's have the digital tuners built in.

RE: Hybrid Dinghy that Improves Motorhome Fuel Economy?

Why not make it simple. Install a electric motor in the motorhome powered by the MH generator. It can work with the MH engine. Savings should be about the same and would cost a lot less than the hybrid.

RE: Hoiday Rambler?

Our Holiday Rambler is a 2008 model. It is a quality coach. We have had very few problems with it. We have traveled over 10.000 miles and have used it over 90 days so far. I would buy another HR in a heart beat.

My 2003 GMC has the Allison 1000 and it came with grade braking standard. I would think that Allison would have a different number for those without grade braking.

RE: Move from a 5th wheel to motorhome

We have had several TT's, a fiver and now a motorhome. We loved the fiver but it was the truck that became the problem. The truck was a extended cab long bed. Try to find a parking place big enough in the larger cities when sight seeing. I wasn't big on getting a motorhome but ran across one that my DW really liked. Guess what became ours. Now that I have the motorhome, you couldn't get me back into a TT or fiver. I like the driving position and all of the features that a MH has. Guess I am a happy MH owner now. We have gone across the country with it and have 10,000 miles and 90 days of use with it.

RE: First yearof ownership- you can enjoy owning a coach!

The only problem we had with our HR in the year we have owned it and 10,000 miles, was the leveling jacks would not retract, HR sent a repair truck out and took care of the problem. I am a happy camper with this motorhome.

RE: at&t vs. verizon?

We have traveled all over the USA as the map below shows. We have the Verizon nation wide plan and never have found a dead spot. I'm sure there are dead zones, we just haven't found them. Because of our experience, we will stay with Verizon.
