RE: Purchasing New TT

Congrats - I'd love to have that model.

RE: Insulating bottom of travel trailer

If it was in a flood and the insulation had to be removed, how could there not be floor damage?

RE: Family of 5 has a new TT!

Just wanted to say thanks for all the great advice on finding a TT for our family of 5! You were right, when we walked in, we knew it was THE ONE. We put a deposit on the KZ Spree 240BH, and I can honestly say we did not have to compromise one thing: we got a set bed for each person, a u-shaped dinette, and not super long or too much weight to tow. It is just the coolest set up for our family. The top bunk is so long it could fit two kids (if they each put their head at opposite ends). We looked at so many trailers and brands, and nothing compared to how perfect a fit this was for us. I really appreciate everyone taking the time to give their advice, and one in particular for suggesting this model. I really see us in this unit for a long time to come (of course I would guess all first timers say that!) Good luck to all the other newbies out there---try not to settle and just keep looking until you find "the one". I'll post pics when we take delivery next month. Penny If it's anything like our TT, you'll love it!

RE: Auction: Got A Trailer

Congratulations! I was camping in December & met some folks with a Dutchmen who really liked theirs. They got a deal because one side of TT had hail damage. I really liked the large windows they had on the awning side. ENJOY!! CAmping in December? I'm so jealous. Mine is under 2' of snow....

RE: Need ideas on how to lay out my tt

I have considered replacing our dinette with a gaucho-type couch and a small folding table. This will allow comfortable seating for reading or watching tv. I just haven't figured out how to do it yet.

RE: Opinions on KZ trailers

We have an entry-level Jag model, that has now been discontinued. We have owned this TT for almost 4 years, and never had any major issues or needed to do any warranty repairs. I would never hesitate to buy another KZ product, and I remember really liking the Spree models. I only bought the Jag because of the price I was able to negotiate.

RE: Vents open or closed for storage?

I don't understand where people are getting all this condensation from. We close ours up during the offseason, with no heat, no fans and no condensation. I would think with the windows cracked you'd be letting the moisture in.

RE: Bicycle Racks one more time.

I was thinking about putting the spare tire inside the trailer and putting the bike rack on the bumper, for the times that I bring bikes on camping trips.

RE: Changing a flat tire question

I would attempt to pull the good tire up onto my blocks to get the flat tire off the ground. If not, I've got two bottle jacks that I would use.

RE: Brake Controller -Cheap vs. Expensive

Here's my situation - I've had a Tekonsha Voyager controller that I've used since my days of towing a PU. The issue I have with the TT is that when I dial up the brakes to be able to affectively stop me at highway speeds, then when I get into stop and go traffic, the brakes overreact and jerk the TV backwards during stopping. This is very annoying and uncomfortable for people in the TV. I can't imagine it does wonders for the trailer brakes either. So I need to decide what to upgrade to (Prodigy, P3, BrakeMaster, etc). Will they all eliminate the problem I described? The good thing is that I don't need any new harness or wiring, since all I have to do (hopefully) is detach the four wires from the Voyager and reattach them to the new controller.

RE: Sad day!!!!

Our camper has been winterized and put away for 3 weeks now. On the plus side I have reservations already made for July and Aug next year. Some of the campgrounds here open in April, so weather permitting we will be out. Can't wait. I went to college in Potsdam back in the 80's. It was the coldest place I had ever experienced. Growing up in southern NY was like living in the tropics compared to there. I remember one time returning to Potsdam from a fall break in mid-October, only to be greeted with three inches of snow on the ground. The Raquette River used to freeze 18" thick, and we used to walk over it as a shortcut to classes. The mucus in your nose would freeze walking to class. One time the thermometer on the local bank sign read -43 degrees. That was insane.

RE: Black Tank..How Long Can It Go Without Being Emptied?

My tank usually smells the worst when I add the chemicals that break down the waste, because that produces the gas that come sup through the toilet when flushing. I usually only add water softener (GEO method) and some citrus smelling dish soap or cleanser. Than again, I only camp for up to a week at a time, and usually have to flush the black tank every two days or so because it gets filled up.

RE: Planning second trip... seeing issues. Help!

First trip we plugged direct into power at the campground. Second trip I didn't even bother with the propane. This is my first camper and was my first trip. I didn't realize you needed the propane for the heater :) If you don't even have a propane hose, I'm wondering if you even have a regulator. There is one hose from each propane tank if you have two to the regulator and another single hose from the regulator to the propane lines installed under your trailer. Larry That was my question - is the missing hose the one connecting the tank to the trailer? How could that be missing? All the other gas lines should be copper so I wouldn't consider them hoses? Only the ones at the tank are considered flexible. Is your TT set up for one or two propane tanks?

RE: "Push" effect

This reminds me of the affect when you are sitting on a speeding train and another train passes you in the opposite direction. There is no more than a couple feet between the trains, and air currents suck and push the trains doors with a violent sound that scares me half to death. Even after riding trains for many years, I still can't get used to that.

RE: Ahh, that new trailer smell!

Just don't go during the hot summer. That formaldehyde smell will chock you and make your eyes water. When we got our new TT 3yrs ago we were lucky I had covered storage so could leave the windows open. It took 3mo to completely get rid of that smell. Yup - bought ours in mid July and burned our eyes for months!

RE: Propane tank refills

I just filled one of my 30# tanks for only $11.00. I think I will stay with refilling. Where did you get it filled? Gas station? Campground? Propane gas facility?

RE: The shortest Travel Trailer w/ Most amount of sleeping room

Mine is a 24' TT with a queen bed, two bunks and dinette sleeping. We've camped with 3 adults and two teenagers on several occasions. It also has a decent size bathroom, but without a slide, the middle area is very tight if you have people moving around inside. Also, there is no couch to lounge on. Overall it's a good balance for what we need. And now our oldest daughter is 18 and doesn't go camping with us any more. Several times it has been only me and my wife, and the trailer is HUGE when there is only two of us!

RE: Camping with a TT is so much nicer!

We camped in PUs for 14 years before we finally pulled the trigger on a TT three years ago. It was the best decision we ever made. The best part was not dealing with canvas any more. It seemed like we were always scheduling around the weather when setting up or taking down. The other great bonus was not having to set up when we got the TT home. All we have to do its park it and then unload stuff out of it.

RE: how long does it take you?

2 beers to set up and 3 cups coffee to break down. You beat me to it. For me..3 beers to set up and 1 coffee to break down. I dont want to have to pee on the way home.:B What is the first thing you unpack and the last thing you pack away when leaving ? For me, it is the cooler.:B We got busted for drinking beer at a NJ state campground this past weekend. :M
