RE: New vehicle buying - RANT

- Chevy Equinox. Another nice little rig, good mpg, AWD, 4 banger -- seems like a winner....but... Turns out they are having issues with "start up noise" which is pretty common (EXAMPLE video). Scratch that one off the list. I don't want to buy something that has an engine issue built in. These also get into the upper 30s when loaded up. No thanks.
Your mistaken, the issue does not apply to the 2012+ New DI I4 engine. I picked one up in Dec. If you can get one with all the GM discounts, its a great SUV for the money.

RE: Mold in my closets!

It might be normal to some, but when I see mold, cabover closets, and Arctic Fox, I'd check the roof seam.

RE: Arctic Fox 990 owners

Stock older Ram 3500 dually, no problem. My AF weighed just under 3800 lbs delivered, not much different than a comparable Lance.

RE: Removing the rooftop AC with the seasons...?

I really wish there was a system for removing some kind of AC. We need ours about once every two years or so.
If I were to do it again, I would buy one of those portable A/C units and deal with it for the 1-2 times a years that I need it.

RE: Darn Diesel again

Anything newer than the golden Cummins years of 89-92 and Powerstroke up to 1997 is considered new technology.
Now, those engines would give you a million miles, barring kdp occurring, even though the rest of the truck might not ;).
I think you meant Cummins 89-97 ?

RE: pricing on a TC

using your logic, it would be cost effective for me to buy a $1,000,000 John Madden special Prevost instead of me staying in the presidential suite at any/all stops.
at one time I calculated that if I averaged about 300 miles per day, that I would just about break even for travel costs, not including the original cost of the RV. and that was before $4.00 gasoline.
bumpy
My logic applies to my $20K TC on the back of a pickup truck, what works for me would not apply to your lifestyle :B

RE: pricing on a TC

The "paying for itself" logic works for me because typical "destination" area hotels like Holiday Inn, or Courtyard in the Northeast run $250++ per night. With a family of 4, the TC is paying for itself over time as I use it. Try Lake George, NY, Hershey Park/Lancaster, PA, Washington DC, White Mountains, NH, Williamsburg, VA, Bar Harbor, ME, (In season accommodations $$ are crazy!) all places I've been with the TC, my TC saves me big $$ every time we use it, and with driving distances usually only a couple of hundred miles, the fuel costs are not insurmountable. Add the meal cost savings only adds to the savings of owning a camper (new or used).

RE: Help with existing Battery Isolater?

If there is a mfg'er name on the isolator, you can just do a search for the wiring diagram. For the four post, one is from the alt, one to each batt, and the other is power from the ignition. I had one of those, don't like it. It went bad and caused me charging problems, thought I had a bad alternator. Problem was the electronic isolator.
This looks like your isolator

RE: dually swingout brackets

thanks FF1063, that's the type of info we're looking for. Are not all Happijac jacks not the same? Do I need to call the company or dealer and find out specific info? I'm trying to save everywhere I can. Savings have to go to gas.
I believe all square tube HJ's use the same bolt configuration and same bracket. I don't think the brackets are common to Attwood or Rieco brands, but someone else that would have to write in on that to clarify for certain.
When I bought my TC's from dealers, the LPG, battery, truck wiring, swingouts, prep, etc were all part of the negotiated price. I doubt you would really save anything as getting the TC on the truck and sending on your way is all part of the deal, and they will see you have a DRW.

RE: pricing on a TC

No doubt. I would never buy a new RV of any kind. That is unless I had the money to burn.
The biggest burn is getting to your destination and checking into a hotel. One way to look at the costs is that as we use our TC's, eventually they pay for themselves.

RE: dually swingout brackets

My TC came with them from the factory, but they are easy to add. Adventurer is using the HappiJac elec jacks. You will need large swing out plates with the Ram DRW. Which swingout bracket to buy depends on the Jacks you get. The pic is what I have on my HappiJacs, so you can see just how the part attaches/works. Even with the wide swing out, I only get about an inch or so clearance on a DRW

The earlier link will lead you to what you need, just depends on what Jack you are trying to extend.

RE: Eternabond Tape ?

Steve, I did my front end seam with the E-Bond. I bought the 6" wide. I suggest buying wider as 6" was only just barely wide enough. The E-Bond roll has a white vinyl type material that faces up, mine stays white and clean. As already metioned, I used Dicor to seal the edges.

RE: Tank odor

I think the the tank vent on the roof sometimes creates a vacuum while driving, enough to pull the liquid from the sink/shower traps. An empty trap vents the tank directly into the TC.

I'll assume you have the camper mirrors on your GM, and don't forget you'll have to transfer your license plate to the TC. Good Luck !

RE: Dual Batteries

Ditto, 2-12V's but I add on a Perko Marine Battery Switch, and a small Honda for quick recharge, daily top off. Power is never an issue for dry camping.

I guess that's why some mfg'ers feel they have to stick warning letters in the glove box, maybe they don't know that we have RV.net !

RE: new dually ...please help!!!

I guess I stirred up a hornets nest! But it's funny...now.
Hopefully you understand that you have a 5500 lb FGAWR, and unlaiden weight on it is already 4700 lbs. They warning is that it can be easily overloaded, I'm OK with the Ram warning.

I owned a Lance 99' 1110. Great camper, just won't ride too good on your 98' as it is really tail heavy.
