RE: RV Fires

rgatijnet1 I'm aware that the production of Halon has stopped, I guess the discharge of a Halon fire suppressor does more damage to the ozone layer then the toxins released during the burning of a RV. Can you tell me some of the options that you mention are available?

RE: RV Fires

ArchHoagland, It appeared to be a refrigerator fire, I don't know what make fridge, but the coach was a Holiday Rambler. Maybe late 90s or early 2000s. The fire department had to cut out a large section of the roof to put the fire out, and the side of the coach by the refrigerator vent was burnt.

RV Fires

After just witnessing the results of an RV fire, I have renewed my interest in a fire suppression system for my refrigerator compartment. No one was injured during this fire, but the damage was major. We travel with pets, and I am concerned that there may be a fire while we are away from the coach and that our pets may be injured. I remember reading some articles about Halon systems and would like information about there effectiveness an there availability. Has any installed any type of fire suppression system in their coach, and if so, would you please provide information about the type system and whether or not you are satisfied with it.

Main Room slide out, Holiday Rambler Ambassador 2006

We have discovered damage to the floor of the main slide on the drivers side. Apparently water has entered the bottom end of the slide on the outside and affected the flooring material. Has anyone attempted to repair this type of damage? The flooring inside the coach appears to be fine, but the outside is wet and coming apart. Is it possible to repair this type of damage without removing the slide?

RE: Lets start a positive topic!

We are at Everglade Isle for the Seafood Festival with the group from RiverBend, nice park, great friends, pleanty of good food and the weather seems to be holding. Can it get any better? I'm sure we will find more fun and interesting things to do in the future, but for now this is just fine with us.

RE: Anyone added Aqua Hot to Class A

A friend had a leak in an existing Aqua-Hot, th cots of replacing the unit itself was over $7,000 dollars. He is smart and handy aand was able to remove the unit, repair it and replace it (not an easy task)at a cost of a few hundred dollars plus his time and labor. I think that attempting to add a complete system to a coach would be cost prohibative, even if you are capable of doing the labor yourself.

RE: SWITCH AT DOOR SHUTS DOWN 12VOLT

You may want to check and see if the switch is bad, I have had to replace mine. I had shut off the 12 volt at the switch, and I could not get it to come back on. I replaced the switch and so far so good.

Campgrounds, P.E.I. and NovaScotia

On a recent trip, we had the opportunity to stay at these parks, among several others, but we think these three are worth a look. P.E.I. Seal Cove Campground in Murray River North, park is under new management, and the new owners are trying to clean up the park and provide a nice place to visit and stay. The place is well kept, the lawns are spacious and well cared for, the facilities are clean, the sites are large they have water front sites with great views, as a matter of fact, I don't think there's a bad view from any site in park. If you are planning to travel to this part of P.E.I. you might want to take a long look at this campground. They have 3 way sites with 50 amp. Nova Scotia, Halifax/Dartmouth Shubie RV Park in Dartmouth is a nice park in a good location for touring the Halifax area. The park and facilities are clean and the people friendly and helpful. They sites are on the small side and I had to unhook to get into my "pull-through". They only have 4 or 5 sewer sites, but if your can do 2 or 3 days without dumping, it makes a good base camp for sightseeing in that area. If you decide to stop here, you may be discoursged by the approach to the park, you will drive through a single home developement before comimg to the park, don't let this turn you off the park is well placed and quite. Nova Scotia, Peggy's Cove Area, King Neptune Campground is located in Indian Harbour, N.S. it is the closest to Peggy's Cove it is a family run no frills park, The people are some of the nicest you will meet. They have 3 way sites, but only 30 amp service, we were there for 6 days and didn’t have a problem with the power. Some of the sites are located right on the water’s edge, the water and sunsets views are beautiful, they made me want to sit outside with my "coffee" and relax. There are larger campgrounds in the area, but you are not going to get this close to the water and you surely wouldn’t have the unobstructed view. If your in the area, just stop by and talk to Kay and /or her daughter, they are really nice people and do what they can to make your stay enjoyable.

Propane

It is getting harder and harder to find propane when traveling. A lot of places have switched over to tank exchange facilities and no longer fill RV tanks. On a recent trip to P.E.I. and Nova Scotia, I found that I needed to refill my propane tank. I was unable to find a place that had the facility to fill my MH, I did find a few that had the large bulk tank, but I could not get to their tank without unhooking. While in the Peggy's Cove area of Nova Scotia, I happened to stop at an Esso station for gas for the car while we were touring the area, and found that they had just installed a large bulk tank two weeks ago and had plenty of room to get in and out with a motorhome and toad. Their only restriction is that they do not provide this service after dark. The Esso station is located in Upper Tantallon, N.S. at 4 French Village Road, it is at the intersection of 213, between route 3 and 103. The tank is located on the right side of the building and you can get to it from the right or by going around the rear of the station from the left, depending on what side your tank is on. By the way, if your in that area, you might want to check out King Neptune Campground in Indian Harbour, it's a no frills campground, but it's clean, and has great water front sites and views. I was not trying to start a debate as to whether or not you can find propane anywhere, I just wanted to try and help anyone that might make the same mistake as me (letting tank get low) find an easy place to refill if they were in that particular area. By the way, I said that the station was off route 213, in fact it may be 333. I hope someone will find this info helpful. The phone number is 902-826-1977.

Seal Cove Campground, Murray Harbour North, PEI.

Seal Cove is a friendly, clean, well run park. It is under new management since April 2011. People at the park tell us that the previous owners had let the park go and it was in pretty bad shape. We found it to be a good stop. As a matter of fact, we extended our stay two times. The view is great, everything works fine. We had a waterfront site with 3 way 50 amp service. The electrical outlet appear to be new and worked well. The roads in the park are gravel and well maintained. The large grass areas are kept cut and clean. The area boast some great sight seeing options. At the present time, there is a detour on route 17 (bridge work), but should be completed by the beginning of September. The detour around the construction is well marked and easy to drive. Most morning, you can see seals on the sand bar to the left of the campground, Bald Eagles also make appearances, much to our delight. If your in the area, you might want to give this palace a try. We'll be back. We stayed here in a 40' MH, but the park can accommodate all types of RV’s and even has a tent camping area. The site are spacious and we had plenty of room even with 4 slides.
