RE: MS Word help, how to remove "returns"

absksw, I couldn't get that to work, but I have Word 2000 and I couldn't see that last box to check. Pulsar and Burp, both your ideas were basically the same, just going about it a little differently. It worked! Thank you very much to all of you for your help.

RE: GPS on sale at Costco

Sam's Club has the Garmin 760 for $198.00. But I have some info to share. I had a TomTom 920 and it worked perfectly but just about everyone said Garmin was better. So I bought a Garmin 765 for $500 on sale, normally $599. I was not at all happy with the Garmin. The TomTom out performed it in every possible way. I took the garmin back after keeping it for a month and got my money back. I going to buy the TomTom 930t from Costco for $399. It's an upated version of the 920 and it has traffic. Here are a few things I didn't like about the Garmin. For a few weeks, I had both unit in the car and could compare them side by side. Again this was the TomTom 920 and Garmin 765. TomTom would figure a more direct route no matter how I had it set. You can set the routes for faster time or shorter distance. TomTom was better everytime although some times they would route exactly the same route. POI's (points of interest). TomTom has many more than Garmin. I went to find a Toyota dealer in Las Vegas, TomTom showed them all, Garmin showed one, after 3 minutes or searching and it was in Arizona. Nothing listed in Vegas. Tried to find Sam's Club in Vegas. Again Garmin searched for over 3 minutes and never found a Sam's Club, TomTom found it in a few seconds. FM transmitter. I had a bunch of MP3's on both units. The transmitter on the Garmin is not very strong and has a lot of static no matter which station you choose. TomTom was clear as a bell. Updating and installing other features. Again TomTom has Garmin beat all the way around. It's much easier to update anything on the TomTom that's available using the TomTom program. With Garmin you still need to install software to access their site on the internet, only difference is Tomtom give you a CD, Garmin you have to download it. TomTom's interface is easy to use, Garmin works but not as easy as TomTom. Anyway I hope this help some of you making a decision. There is a LOT of differences between GPS units. They are NOT all the same and they do NOT all have the same features. I suggest searching online and finding the unit that has the features you want. The compare brands and read other peoples reviews on the units you are considering. Or buy the unit at Costco, use it for a while and see how you like it. Costco will take it back months later if you don't like it. My original TomTom 920 (that I wished I'd kept) was returned to costco after 7 months of use, which is when I bought the Garmin (that I also had to return). Right now Costco has the 930t (with taffic) on sale for $399 and I'm thinking about getting it since I don't have one now.

RE: It's gonna be a BEAUTIFUL day

Beautiful day here in Vegas too. But I talked to my mom in Oregon yesterday, she said it snowed a tiny bit in the morning. And we don't live in an area that usually gets snow. Then I talk with a buddy in Ventura, said it was raining there yesterday. I'm ready for some nice sunshine. But Vegas will only be nice a little while longer, then it will get way too hot to enjoy. Back to Oregon then.

MS Word help, how to remove "returns"

I have a list of severl hundreds of itmes listed (several pages). Whoever created this list, double spaced each item by hitting the return key twice, not by using the paragraph format. I want to remove the "return" in between each item, so it will be single spaced. I know I can just go throught the put the curson at the blank line and hit delete, then arrow down and hit delete again... and continue. But is there a way to removed these extra spaces/returns? Example: Item one Item two Item three Above is how is is now, by hitting return twice after each line is typed. (not by using format paragraph) But I want it to look like this: Item one Item two Item three

RE: Watch out for TurboTax

I've use TT for 11 years. The first year I used it I also went to a tax person who I also paid to do my taxes. TT and the tax person came up with the same figures. I used TT from then on. Then when I went through some real estate dealings, I wanted to make sure I was doing it right with TT. So again I did them on TT and paid a professional to do them, just to make sure. Again, all was the same. So I trust TT and will continue to use their product. Kevin, I'm not saying you are wrong, but is there a possibilty you are not looking at something correctly? I sure a huge company like TT wouldn't let something like that happen, but I guess anything's possible. I hope you get it straightened out.

RE: Shopping Malls

I think they (property owners) have chosen to go with the outdoor type in order to reduce costs, such as heating, cooling, wear and tear on flooring, thinkgs like that. The owners of a big indoor mall have to pay to heat and cool the common area. Yeah I know it's all built into the rent, but they can still reduce those costs by not having to pay them in the first place. Then you have the flooring and cleaning of all that flooring. Much more expensive than a parking lot or sidewalk. And I'm sure the rent for an outdoor mall really isn't that much less than an indoor mall. Those retailers want to be somewhere near other big stores, doens't matter if they are inside or not. When I want something quick, I love the outdoor malls. When I just want to shop or wander around, I like the indoor malls. And of couse the food court is the best spot.

Pantry staples

Everyone has their own special item(s) they must have in their home pantry or cupboard (or fridge). Since I do 99% of the cooking at home, I thought it would be fun to start a list of "can't live without" items. To make it easier to read, lets try not to list any duplicates if possible. We can begin with the basics...So everyone has to come up with something OTHER than the basics. Salt & Pepper Oil Flour Sugar Eggs Milk Start the list....... And my can't without item is Steak Seasoning (I get it at Sam's Club). I use it for for almost everything. It's great on steak, burger, chicken, pork chops, eggs and on roasted veggies. It's just a combination of many different spices all ground together and it's a big time saver and adds a lot of extra flavor.

RE: DTV Switch Over is ON

We only got 2 analog station in the past. They were very fuzzy. Too many hills and trees on the Plateau. That was the same for my brother. But once he bought one of the converter boxes and a cheap digital antenna, he now gets them. But like you, there are only 2 local stations where he lives. He still has to have cable to get all the other channels. Where we live in Oregon, they don't offer FOX or the WB, so it wouldn't matter what equipment we have. If they don't send out a signal, we aren't going to pick it up. :S

RE: Eggs

This topic is so funny. I've never given eggs a second thought. I buy whatever is on sale. And where I live in Oregon, I don't even know where to buy Egglands Best. But here in Vegas I shop at Sam's club often and they carry Egglands Best eggs. I can't remember when the last time I cracked an egg and it was bad, but I gota say, it's happend twice in the last 4 months and both times the eggs were Egglands Best brand. I don't know what they do to them to make them "best" but I don't buy that brand anymore.

RE: Dish Network Question

It won't work for you local stations because the local station are "spot beamed" to your local area. Don't mean to hijack your thread, but I sort of do this with DirecTV. I have a house in Oregon and Vegas. I can only use 1 house at a time right? So I am so very happy with DirecTV and here is what they do for me. I have a dish in Vegas and Oregon, no extra charge for the extra dish. I have 1 box (tuner box) in Oregon and 1 in Vegas. When I am in Oregon, I get my local Oregon stations AND all the other ones in my package. But If I go to Vegas, I do not get any local stations, not from Oregon and not from Oregon. But I do get all the other channgel in my package. So all I have to do is call DirecTV and tell them I need to change my local stations. It takes them about 15 minutes, but once they do whatever it is they do from their office, I will get the local Vegas stations. But then I do not get any local stations in Oregon. (does that make sense)? Basically DirecTV allows me to have only 1 account but they will switch my local stations whenever I need to. And the best part, they do not charge me to do this. I pay for 1 account and 2 boxes. I only have 1 TV at each house. On almost forgot, the ONLY reason they want you to have your box connected to a phone line is so you can order pay per view movies. They assume if it's connected, you will be more inclined to order them. All of the updating come thru that satellite signal and not the phone line. There is no reason to connect it unless you order pay per view. I've had DirecTV for year and never had it connected to a phone line.

Updating your profile

I went to update my profile since it's been a while. When I went to save it, I got an error. They want memvers to list their full name and address. I just don't feel confortable listing my address on any forum. So I'll stick with my old profile. Does anyone list their full address on here? Upon edit, Why didn't I think to just use a different address! :W Gosh I didn't think I was gone that long. he he he

RE: DTV Switch Over is ON

See many station's are making the switch over. Leaving many without Over the air TV. Now maybe those who have not switched will do so. Take the converter out of the closet and hookm it up. People have known this was coming for how long? WAY TOO LONG! All we kept seeing across the bottom of the TV shows was the need to get a converter box, etc. If someone hasn't done this, it's their own fault. My brother has a newer TV, only about 3 years old, a bigscreen Mitsubishi but it does NOT have a digital tuner. He does have cable so it really didn't matter to him anyway. And just because someone has a newer model TV doesn't mean it has the proper, digital tuner. But he wanted to see just what channels he could get with the new digital signal. He bought a converter box and cheap antenna from Wal-Mart and he gets the local stations where he lives in Oregon and they look excellent. He could NOT get these stations before the change over. I gota feeling the people who are having trouble just don't have the proper hardware or don't have it connected correctly. Another thing, they did a 1/2 hour special on TV about these converter boxes, and they are NOT the same. Some work better than others. So if anyone has one that doens't work, try a different brand as suggested on the special show.

RE: Woo -- hoo! - - another fine Friday!

Well, I bought a new Harley in December and I am going for a ride. So if you see an old man on a Harley in full leathers trying his best to look ominous; that would be me.:B Congrats on the new bike. I bought a new Harley Fat Bob back in Feburuay from one of the dealers here in Vegas. Been trying to get it back home to Oregon ever since... weather not the best for m/c travel, he he he. But back to the original post, driving back to Oregon this weekend. We are renting the house in Vegas but not until April 1st. I absolutly hate living here. I'll take an Oregon winter any day. Nice place to visit....but that's all.

RE: Large Companys that Steel ?

Yes, the State of California. Long story but I'll keep it short. Besides I already posted it a few years back. Registered a vehicle with the State of CA, then later found out it was not able to be registered (state revolked the registrationafter I had paid for it, long story). I sent a letter long with all necessary paperwork asking for my money back and was told NO. I also received a letter saying the DMV is not responsible to provide accurate information about any vehicle. I even sent a letter to Arnold himself, then received a return letter from the State of CA DMV Administrator, basically saying the same thing. Never did get my money back.

RE: Hello everyone

Thanks everyone so much for your thoughts and prayers. It hasn't been an easy few months, but like we all know, life goes on. I think my MIL was hit the worst, you are just not supposed to out live your children. She would have been 48 years old in April. For many years she had bad headaches and would turn "moody" very sudden. Doctors said she had Fibromyalgia and she lived in pain for many years. One day she just sort of passed out in her bed and never got up. Her boyfriend called 911 and she was taken to the hospital. After a few days the family was notifed she needed emergency brain surgery. It was downhill from there. This happened back in March 2008 and she never came home from either a hospital or nursing home. I should add, her mother wanted her to come stay with her but doctors and just about every other medical professional advised against it due to the constant care she needed. And as I said, she left us 4 weeks ago while sleeping and was not in any pain. Although we all knew it was coming, it's still a shock for someone so young and it really doesn't hit you until it happens. Again, thanks for all your thoughts. I look forward to getting back to chatting with you all.

RE: State Farm abandons Fl. Which Co. switch to???

I've said on here many times in the past, check around. I go thru this about every 2 years. I'll get my insuracne renewal and then start calling around. I can't see any reason to stay with a certain company. I will find the least expensive company I can who offers the coverage I want/need. I get prices all over the board, some companies are more than double other companies. And it doesn't seem to be consistant. One year maybe State Farm will offer the best price, but the next year they won't. And I'm just using State Farm as an example, not that they are cheaper or more expensive than anyone else. Right now I have the houses with one company and the vehicles with another. It's NOT always cheaper to get the multi discount these companies offer. It does pay to spend some time and check around. An hour or two could save you hundreds of dollars a year.

RE: Road trip in a rental car

Do all the time. Well not so much cross country, but we have rented cars to go between Oregon and CA often. We usually manage to put on 2500 miles, it'a about 900 mile each way and a few hundred extra miles. Enterprise is the worst as far as restrictions. Usually we just call around and get the best rate. If they don't ask if I'm going out of state, I don't tell them, not that I'm trying to hide anything, I just figure if it was importatnt, they have the responsibility to make me aware. But it seems the most common issue is, unlimited mileage upto a certain amount PER DAY. This is definetly something to check, but you can ask without telling them you are going on a 5,000 mile trip.

RE: Drivers using cell phones

California passes a no cell phone law and a no text messaging law. They wrote a lot of cell phone tickets the first week, and now they are yacking away again. In my travels back and forth to CA, I haven't noticed much of a decline in cell phone use while driving. Guess a lot of people don't care they are braking the law.
