RE: Remodel on my '90 Palomino - Part 1 (Corner Rot/Jack Mount)

I had a 1000 with the same issues. I did a similar repair then ran a 3x3x 1/4 epoxy coated angle under both sides. I attached the jack to that. Even with 3 jacks I had no more sagging.

RE: window leak

Thanks for the replies. The inside looks like a sheet of luan painted white. Lance service says they only have 2 pcs of the metal siding left and will not ever get any more in. They did offer 2 sources which I have not tried yet. It looks like a fairly striaght forward deal. I am a builder so I have lots of tools. No time but lots of tools. I need to decide if I want to tackle this now or just bandaid it and make it a nice winter project. I have way to much going on right now to deal with this.

window leak

Well I had to remove my camper from the big storage barn while the boats come out. It has rained several inches the last week or so. The camper is now showing signs of a leak around that front window. I've delt with it before. Time to make it go away. Lance wants $154 plus shipping per sheet of metal. I need 2. These should sell for 20 bucks or so no different than pole barn metal. The inside panel is no longer availible your'e on your own. Anyone have another source for the metal and would you fix it or keep trying to stop the leak with caulk etc. The metal Lance offers is the wrong size and the wrong color as well, but its close.

RE: Permanently attaching rubber mat to bottom of TC...?

I have had mine in 3 different trucks. The only time I take it out is to hose out the bed to remove dust or whatever got under there. It does flop around a little going through the car wash, but never really came close to coming out. If I had to worry about someone stealing it I'd find someplace else to live. I guess you could always bolt it down with some nylock nuts.

RE: Sigh... Truck Camper Damaged in Shipping!

I am not a lawyer, nor do I pretend to be one on the internet, but I did ace business law. There are very specific laws that govern shipping and interstate commerce. The shipper hands the product over to the shipping co. The shipping co is responsible in transit untill the new owner recieves the goods. If the goods are damaged in shipping the shipping co has a "right of cure" The right of cure is what a resonable person would expect the repair to meet a standard. It sounds like what you are doing is the best way out. The law recognises that all parties have a realised a risk shipping an item that far, yourself included. As I said in my earlier post have the repair shop pad the bill a little for your trouble and enjoy the rest of your camping season with the new unit. I believe it will be better than new.

RE: Truck campers in michigan?

Here is how I look at it in Mi. Title is not needed however, if you feel that the state is a better steward of your money than you are, and you wish to pay more in taxes, go get a title. I have owned 3 and sold 2 Tc's in Mi no title. It simply a box in the back of your truck you can sleep in.

RE: Should I go 3.73 or 4.10 with my Chevy 6.0?

The new 6 speed trans allows taller gearing with the same power ratio. With the new 6 speeds gm dropped the final gears for better fuel economy. My 5.3 has the 6 speed with 3.73 which is the equivelant of the old 4/4.10 With the camper on I run in the manuel mode normaly 5 th gear. With that much wieght and a 6.o with your dedicated use maybe 4.10 is needed. I went from my perfectly good 08 to a 11 just to get the 6 speed and glad I did. Its a way better trans than the old 4 .

RE: Sigh... Truck Camper Damaged in Shipping!

I would just have the local place your comfortable with do the repair. Have them pad it a little and give you a rebate for your trouble. I can tell you from experiance anything I repair on my rig is way better than when it left the factory. To ship a unit that far and not be ready for a little shipping damage is not being realistic. I suppose you could have paid for it shipped in a custom container but at what cost. When I worked in the marine industry, boats shipped in from across the country by land or water always required some touch up before delivery to the customer. It is what it is, have it fixed and enjoy the rest of your already short camping season. Then again you could hire that lawyer and drag this out for a couple years. I am sure he would enjoy that.

RE: Quick Trip To Holland

I lived in Holland about 25 years. Now 20 miles north. It is a really nice area especialy in the cool Mi summer. Lake Mi is at its widest point at Holland 80 miles to Wisconsin all fresh water. I am not a big believer in global warming. I think the planet does exhibit hot and cold cycles but, they did move the Tulip Festival back a week a few years ago. The flowers kept blooming to early. They keep trying later blooming varieties, to stick with the traditional festival dates. If the trend continues they may have to back it up again. Kind of a bummer for the bus loads of retiree's show up and all they get is stems. They still have the parades, shows, and other attractions. At one time it was right up there with the Rose Bowl and Madi Gra as far as tourist draw.

RE: Inside the belly of the beast...Lance1131

As a certified welder of 20+ years, with lots of experiance welding Aluminum, I would be very concerned with purchasing an alm framed camper. It takes a lot of skill and practise to weld alm properly. I do not see your average high school drop out or illegal getting this done to any spec. Not to mention alm is prone to metal fatige. It would be interesting to see some of these shells after a few years on the road. I would bet in a lot of cases the skin or whatever wood was used is the only thing holding these things together in areas of high load or stress. I'll keep my wood rig, lighter, stronger, and I can fix it if need be. All I have to do is keep the water out.

RE: home dump station ?

I would recomend a plastic drum. The steel ones rust out pretty quickly. The new industrial plastic ones hold up pretty well. For the p police. If I p outside is that a violation.

RE: CG Aft of Rear Axle - Not Prefered but is it Safe

So what happens when you hook up a trailer to the hitch on any truck? I have pulled a trailer regularly with my work truck with 800 plus lbs on the hitch. I would guess this would have taken weight off the front. If the front bounces around a little drive accordingly. The number one factor that determines saftey is the person behind the wheel. Do you feel comfortable driving a rig like that. If you have to ask on an open forum maybe not. Maybe just get a heavy GF to compensate. Or shift some weight around like truckers do every day. I would not add a pulling tractor weight rack up front just use a little common sence. Go camping and find some new stuff to worry about.

RE: Need Tent sites for Scouts w/ 50 tents 150 Mile Rad fr Chgo

Check out the Allegan State Forest, Alllegan county Mi. The Kalamazoo river runs through it and there are many feeder streams as well. Lots of hiking opportunities. Another good one would be PJ Hoffmaster N of GH Mi. Might be on the outside of your range but worth the trip. This gets busy in season.

RE: Need picture for tiedown fabrication

The cross bar goes inside the bed, then there are a couple long leg angle iron that drop down to the bottom of the bed. These are then bolted to the frame. This ties the whole set up together. You can think whatever you want but having used both the camper never moved with this system. My camper moves all over with the tork lift setup I have now. I just don't like the ears sticking out the side of the bed on my new 2011 truck. If I had an older or dedicated rig I woul go back to this. The happyjack is also recomended by Lance. The weak link is the bumper bolt deal. I made my own that slide into the rear factory hitch.

RE: Should I try to mount the camper brackets myself?

I would say if you don't already own a complete set of bits. Pay someone to do it right the first time. If you already own a complete set of tools and have the knowledge and experiance using them then do it yourself.

RE: Need picture for tiedown fabrication

If you pm me I have a set of ears, the cross bar etc. If you are a welder you easily modify these to fit your application.

RE: Red Coconut RV in Ft Myers trip..

A: How did you get a spot? I had heard that place was booked years in advance, in season. B: I am guessing that was a little more than say 25-30 bucks a night. C: I'll take Jan and Feb My ma is a few miles up the road.

RE: lance running lights help! please

Over 90% (my non scientific guess) of vehical lighting issues are ground related. I had the same problem with my lance 815. Worked for a few years then one spring no lights. I ran a physical heavy gauge ground from the truck frame to the camper buss under the sink with a disconect behing the rear window. I have not had a lighting issue since.

RE: Need a New Motorcycle Camping Tent

Whatching this thread, I am thinking of taking my Harley to Alaska this summer. I have a nice 5x7 I bought at Gander a few years back. It fits in a saddle bag. I am thinking I may want a little more room as well. If it rains a lot may have to lay over a day or so and dry things out. I won't have a passenger so I have some room 03 Classic. I am looking for ideas on a stove/heater, sleeping bag, all the assentials. I have not camped in a while but this sounds like an adventure. I can always motel it every few days if needed.

RE: premium fuel

I am still deciding to take my Harley and tent camp or the truck/camper combo not both. The harley would be the cheaper adventure. The owners manual for the harley clearly states 91 octane but it is FI so one would think it would compensate. I just bought the bike so I have not had a chance to mess with it. The new one is a 2003 classic, the old a 92 dyna. My old harley called for 87 but always ran way better on 91. Thus the reason for the question.
