RE: Red Max Pro/ ZEP

I think the finish on many 2012's started out many times better than our 1992 finish that RMP enhanced so much 20 years later.

RE: Red Max Pro/ ZEP

Nope. An acylic coating like ZEP or whatever is only an option for recovering a finish that has failed because it is too old, or has not been maintained properly (and they work great for that!). If you take care of the finish from the get go, you should never have to recoat it (or at least not until it qualifies as a classic). Regular applications of a good wax or polish, or a protectorant like 303 should keep things looking good for a long time. Personally, I think fabric covers are a great help, but there are mixed opions on that ....
Some say an ounce of prevention is worth 4.5 ounces of cure.

RE: EternaBonded the roof!

Great job. If it had not been for Eternabond we may would have lost our RV to leaks by now. We bought it dry but it had not rained in like forever. :)

RE: Fuel Issues & Prices - Post 'Em Here!

Not sure why but 87 is $3.25 this AM in Murray.
If it is a war I hope it last for 50 years. Actually I really see not point of gas wars in these times.

RE: Norcold Refrigerator problem

While your readout was off by about 40 degrees as posted but if the lower box will get down to +20F the cooling unit is fine. There may be fan or installation problems but the cooling unit is functing fine. -15/+15F upper/lower are about max lows due to physics.

RE: Northern California Big Rig Friendly State Parks

I have to say CA RV spots of any kind seemed small to get in last year when in the state.
If we ever do CA again I expect it will be driving/hotel experience after we fly to a central location. Lot of nice places but roads in/out were built for Model T's and not RV's we found.
CA has been broke for too long to focus on tourist investments I guess.

RE: Nashville to Denver best route

I-24 is good out of Nashville north. Take that to I-57 and then north to I-64 at Mt. Vernon, IL. I-64 through St. Louis is the best route to take except for rush traffic times. I-64 connects with I-70 at Wentzville, MO and then it's west to Denver.
2X
We took this path to mid KS last fall on our Yellowstone, Pacific, Grand Canyon run. We did take I-80 from Salt Lake to Pacific and that was good.
I-40 is a common truck route to CA and it takes a beating.
We learned on our 8000 mile trip in some states there are wide two lanes with about the same speed limits that give equal travel times without the downside of interstate gridlock potential.
I-40 is OK if you have dentures so you can remove them and just let the gums beat together.

RE: Fuel Price Gouging

Yesterday Shell 87 was $3.33 locally. Hope I can wait for $2.99 to fill the MH. :B
More likely it will get to $3.01 and then shoot straight to $4 again.

RE: RV fridge

Do you know the specifics of the "rebuilt"?
It the cooling unit leak(s) were found and repaired then 5 years sounds about right.
This is the age of our MH.
What temp will each box drop to after being closed on high for two days?

RE: Fluid leaking down inside front tire

Called my dealership today and they can't get it in until the end of the month.
I bought some 90wt gear oil and topped it off this morning. Cleaned everything good with Brake Clean which wasn't very much, and so far see nothing leaking.
Must be a very slow leak.
Vic
It could also be a positional leak and you last parked it with the seal leak on the bottom side.

RE: Transmission oil change

Is there a website where you enter the VIN number and see all maintenance work done on the truck?
Your dealer will be able to see warranty work, but not necessarily paid for work or 3rd party (non dealer) work.
Technically they are not suppose to give the information to you for confidentiality reasons.
Not so technically, they can see it and advise you of any heads ups.
I found one can get more than expected. It is worth ask for anyway. Ours had a new transmission installed at 40K when we got it at 102K miles. I also learned the name of the selling dealership that proved it to have been a local area SUV.

RE: Rubber Roof repair

We cut some slits using shop vac to blow air in on one side and out the other slit. After it got really dry I rolled with Eternabond steel roller until the luan stopped cruching then we sealed the slits with Eternabond. That was in 2008.
Now I try to remember not to walk on the softspots but the kids do.

RE: Interstate 80 road condition

We're planning to drive from PA to Colorado and we heard that I 80 used to be a pretty bad road. Has anyone taken that route recently?
Thanks
We were on it some last fall and took it to SF, CA. It has been years since I took it to PA. I do not rememeber it being bad enought to stick out in my mind. While we were on it some in the mid west we were on it most from Great Salt Lake to Pacific.

RE: refrigerator doesn't work need help

That is a good sign. Without a heat source one can not test the cooling unit.
Everytime I am in the middle of a project I wonder what it would be like for the next guy to figure out where I was at on the project when I died.

RE: Ford vs Chevy

When you are looking at two gas hogs like those options fuel usage difference is not a factor to use in a buying decision.
You are looking at the cost of $2-$3 per mile if you drive a lot or higher cost per mile if it stays parked most of the time.
If you heart is set on going with a new unit do not figure the true ownership cost per mile. :B

RE: refrigerator doesn't work need help

Hot wiring test will let you know if the cooling unit is functional since it by-passes all the electronics and need for 12v.
If properly done very bottom coils will heat up UNLESS the heating element is defective. It it works and your lower box is not BELOW freezing after being shut for 48 hours running 24/7 then you have some hardware and/or install defects.
