RE: Revived Trailer Tire Thread (formerly on the 5th Wheel Forum

My gosh, this subject seems awfully complicated for some of you. All you have to do is go to Costco and buy the Michelin tires that work on your trailer. It's so easy. No failures. On vehicles, boat trailers, RV's. Ever.
Or, keep on reading.

RE: "Free" moble Hotspot App for Android

Per developer's web site, the app does not work on the original Droid but does on all subsequent versions. What is different about the original (the one I have) that causes the incompatibility? My guess is the OS. What is your release? Dave

Obviously a Lippert frame and Chinese tire failure.

RE: 40 ft. 5th Wheel Turning Radius?

Math...I love trigonometry.
And now I remember why I didn't love math. Bottom line is: If the truck can make the turn, the fiver can make the turn. Except for the inside track of the fiver and obstructions. And exxcept for the outside rear edge of the fiver. Look at the back corner of many fivers on the road. Lots of dings and scrapes. Those folks were not good at math. I'm half good at making U-turns, half bad at making the same turns and half not good at fractions.

RE: Broken leaf spring -- narrowly escaped disaster

...Don't forget the use of the trailer aid for changing tires and repacking bearings. There is a camp that believes if it is only an hour or less, the spring won't break.:h
Not sure if I follow that one. Are you suggesting that those "one wheel off the ground" ramps will cause the loaded spring / tire to fail?

RE: saging leaf springs

If you get the Dexter EZ-Flex system with the rubber damper you don't need shock absorbers. Many new RVs are being built that way. The Dexter system can be purchased for around $200 online, includes new shackles, wet bolts and equalizers for both sides. Shipping included. Just got my set and will install in the Spring. Hey, that's funny...in the spring.

RE: Is it legal to ride in a 5th wheel trailer?

I think this picture might answer the question.
Accident Picture
I hope all can see the picture. No one injured, only total loss of trailer and 2 touring motorcycles.
Good photo. Note the structural integrity of the trailer. The roof did not even collapse. I'd say it would be safe for my wife to ride back there.

RE: Suspension Broke...Need Quick Jacking Assistance

I would replace both sides when your able to do so, and upgrade to wet bolt kits and bushings.
We actually are doing both sides at the same time. Will order the wet bolt kit when we get home. Thanks.

RE: Suspension Broke...Need Quick Jacking Assistance

Doug, where are you broke down? Let me know if there is anything I can do local. Good thoughts to you buddy-Mike
Hi Mike. Thanks for the offer. RV is near Coalinga just off of I-5. Drove wife home today and am heading back tomorrow morning to wait for mobile RV tech to come out around noon on Monday. Hopefully he will have all of the correct parts and I'll be on the road to Santa Rosa on Tuesday morning.

RE: Suspension Broke...Need Quick Jacking Assistance

I hope I'm not too late with my two cents.
Before working under it set up cribbing (4x4s stacked like Lincoln Logs work well) near the spring shackles front and rear of the axles.
Do NOT trust jacks (even bottle jacks) while you are under it.
Nope, not too late. I've got plenty of 2x6 chunks, 4 jack stands, a floor jack and two 12 ton bottle jacks. Thanks. Oh, and I will not get under it. I'm letting a mobile RV repair guy do that. Just hope he brings the correct pieces for the repair.

Correct, I am NOT going to use the rear stabilizers or front landing gear. Thanks again to all for the replies.

RE: Suspension Broke...Need Quick Jacking Assistance

Called Camping World service department. They say to attach the fifth wheel to the truck and raise the jacks. Then use 2 bottle jacks and block the frame with wood. This will add stability, particularly on a roadside repair.

RE: Suspension Broke...Need Quick Jacking Assistance

Do not put rear stabilizers down, hook to truck and all stabilizers and landing gears up. Then use your bottle jacks to the frame as close to your spring hangers as you can get.
I agree. Thanks.

Suspension Broke...Need Quick Jacking Assistance

One day from home and the suspension on the passenger side broke. The center equalizer pivot snapped. That in turn snapped one of the shackles and bent all the rest of them. The tires collapsed into each other. Lots of smoke and burning rubber.
Anyhow, the RV is parked safely. I need info on how to best jack up one side of the fifth wheel to get both wheels off of the ground so that the suspension can be removed.
Right now the truck is detached from the rig. Front jacks are down, back jacks are not down. I have two 12 ton bottle jacks with me and a bunch of wood blocks and 4 jack stands. I'm afraid that if I jack one side of the rig with the front jacks down that it will exert side pressure on the "downhill" jack and bend or break it.
Should I hook up the truck and raise the front jacks instead? Has anyone actually done this themselves?
Thanks.

RE: Need Help with Microsoft Excel 2003

Are you sure Ctrl+F7 doesn't do anything? With the workbook not maximized, try pressing Ctrl+F7 and then use your down arrow key to move the workbook down.
You are correct. Ctl + F7 DOES work with the arrow keys. I had been trying to use the mouse. Thanks again.
