RE: Off the Level...A discussion of the bubble

LarryJM, Your pic is just where I want to put mine. It looks like the same level too. I have been looking at rigs in campgrounds and have never seen the level on the side though so it does kinda make one wonder.

RE: Off the Level...A discussion of the bubble

Thanks to all. Looks like were mostly all on the same page. It has been a very thought provoking discussion over coffee. The level I have has about a 1/2" dia tube and I think its a steel bearing inside.

Off the Level...A discussion of the bubble

Here is the discussion that has been going on... I want to put one of those big bubble levels on the drivers side front of my trailer so I can see it in my mirror. The purpose is to make leveling easier on pull through sites. My father (CAD teacher) and friend(Firefighter) both seem to think that it will give me poor readings, as in not level, on the side because of the amount of vertical movement. I(firefighter) contend that it will be more sensitive but that level is level. The bubble measures the degree of rotation from the long axis of the trailer. I relate it to a string level. The bubble is level no matter where on the string you put it. Some of the other guys at work have expressed opinions about split 50/50. We are all pretty mechanically oriented and just need a physics major type person to settle the argument. Please help us sleep at night, Jesse

RE: First and Second Trip Reports Desert Fox 24AS

Good purchase with the Desert Fox. It seems like very similar issues that all of us have had at one time or another. The batteries are par for the course. It sounds like your generator did just like mine at about 3 years. Im guessing its an Onan, if so the problem is most likely not the genset but the fuel line. Check to see if your fuel line runs down the outside of the frame rail to the rear. From there I bet it makes a sharp bend through the frame to the fuel tank. I probably has deteriorated and has cracks, thus sucking air. Heres how I fixed mine. #1 replaced OEM Onan filter that is expensive and hard to replace with brass adaptors to fuel line, sediment bowl from Tractor store and inline clear fuel filter. Total cost about $20 wich is much less than the Onan store wanted for their filter. #2 figured on replacing fuel hose every 3 years so I replaced it once with copper tubing. Make sure to secure it more than rubber hose and make gradual bends or buy 90 degree flare end elbows. Hope this helps. Jesse

I want to replace single bunk with double

Hey guys and gals, I want to replace our single bunk in the rear with the dual bunks. Does anyone know where to get parts? We have a Desert Fox. Thanks, Jesse

RE: Wall tie down. options

I found the studs first. Then I ripped and finished some 1x3 oak to match cabinets. I mounted the strips to the hieghts I wanted and installed flip down eyelets at each end and in the middle. I use a standard tie down to secure tables, chairs, kid gate, and dog jail.

looking at redline 33' FW

Hey folks, Were looking at upgading to a bigger rig. Anyone out there have one of these? Any problems? It looks to be in very good condition. My only hangup with it is the small heater and non isulated water tanks. I can fix both of these though. Any input is appreciated.

RE: Do TT Toyhaulers sway more than a regular TT?

Billy, Im sorry to say that your truck is overloaded. It will probalbly burn up the rear end first. At least that was my experience on a "short trip." As other guys have said the easiset way to eliminate sway on this setup is to fill your water tanks and put in the toys. My 21' desert fox pulls really nice with water in the tanks and no toys. Even in a crosswind. Unfortunately for you both options will overload your truck. Just my 2 cents. In either case have fun.

RE: My hitch rattles and shakes.

Thanks to all for the replies. After looking at the related threads about gm reciever issues I think the best place to start is a good inspection by our local shop. Assuming it all checks out ok I think I will go the route of having plates welded on the sides with new holes or to fill the holes and re-round them. Thanks to those who sent pictures of "anti rattle devices." I have built similar items for my 1/2 ton trucks in the past and they have worked well but Im towing a toyhauler pushing 10k. Thanks again and I will post with results this next week.

My hitch rattles and shakes.

Top of the morning, My tow vehicle is an 06 Chevy 2500. My hitch rattles inside the reciever. The pin that secures the hitch to the reciever fits tightly inside the hitch portion but seems to slide inside the reciever holes. Since I have had the truck I have been using the same setup and it now appears that the holes in the reciever portion are becoming elongated. Is there anything out there that I can do short of replacing the whole setup? Have other folks had this issue? Is this just poor engineering on Chevy's part? Thanks for any help, Jesse
