RE: The economy must be improving

“Our state government is in serious trouble, but refuses to address the real problems and is trying to make our taxes even higher to pay for their spending habits. Our small business (flooring) is only working because of jobs for the state, we have seen virtually no change in the amount of private work.”
Really...
I am sure you hit on the apex of the problem but, obviously you haven’t turned the work down in protest of the states spending… if the state would cut its flooring program it would be a start in the right direction for solving the spending part of their problems…
While there are spending problems a lot of it may juse be that spending comes from unfunded referendum mandates placed on the state… everyone wants spending cuts but only the ones that don‘t have a negitive effect them…

RE: Fuel Price Gouging

Yes I Believe a tank buried underground and well below the frost level will stay a constant 55 degrees. It is science not speculation.
Your statement is not science it is a generalization that is a guestimate of temps at very deep depths…
If that were the case the world we live in would look much different…
Now at soil depths greater than 30 feet below the surface, the soil temperature is relatively constant, and corresponds roughly to the water temperature measured in groundwater wells 30 to 50 feet deep… This is referred to as the “mean earth temperature.”…the mean earth temperature contours and varies greatly across the United States…
A example might be found in Virginia where the mean earth temperature ranges from 52ºF in the northern Shenandoah Valley and Winchester area to 62ºF in the coastal Tidewater area…
The amplitude of seasonal changes in soil temperature on either side of the mean earth temperature depends on the type of soil, depth below the ground surface, moisture content, and surface ground cover….
In Virginia the amplitude of soil temperature change at the ground surface is typically in the range of 20-25ºF, depending on the extent and type of vegetation cover…

RE: Wrong Size Tires????

Stand your ground, chances are the axles may not be what was listed in the brochure to… follow through with your complaint, take pictures, and keep notes of everything said and who said it… be firm, and insistent but cool and polite…
Even though the brochure says they have the absolute right to make changes, they should also have the obligation to make you aware of those changes… especially when the changes are effectively a down grade…

Read the report as listed by Cedar Hill and/or contact your state weights & measures agency, any consumer group, google gasoline expansion. Do you really think that gasoline in an underground storage tank will stay at a constant 60 degrees when the earth around the tank is frozen solid ( i:e below 32'F), or coversely heated above 80'F. The top of the tank is only three feet down.In this part of the country frost goes down at least 6 feet in the winter as it does in Alaska and let me tell you that will shrink your baloney.
Fill a 5 gal container with gas, mark the level immediatley then sit it out in the sun for few hours and recheck the level. Thats where the money was on the barge!
I guess in most of Canada motor fuels have ATC pumps… is that correct??? I suppose mainly because the cooler the climate, the more beneficial it is to the seller and you had less opposition from the dealers…
My question is do they have anything on the pump stating that the pump has ATC (automatic temperature compensation)???

RE: The economy must be improving

Occupancy this winter was the best its been in 3 years in my opinion, although not full by any means… I have had phone solicitations with offers for special rates at five different Florida parks this year, the restaurants were more crowded than the past couple of years to…
my nephews Fort Meyers real estate business was doing very well… but I don’t think we are out of the woods yet and for to many people things are no better at all and may never be…
Fuel prices will continue on their rollercoaster path, and gas and oil companies are offering huge amounts of money to farm property owners around here to lease ground for wells…
The cost of imports are rising at a fast pace and a lot of small mfg’s are changing their minds about importing with a lot of good reasons…
There are a lot of good signs, and there are a lot of terrible sings as well with the biggest being we are a divided country with no signs of putting our country ahead of our personal beliefs and issues…

It was most likely just the water left in the tank after it was drained… did you flush the tank when you drained it to remove the mineral deposits???

RE: Fuel Price Gouging

Temperature compensation is necessary and common when buying fuels…
Weight is the only true measure no matter how it is sold… a gallon of fuel at 60* has a known weight and a known BTU content and at that weight it is true gallon with the same BTU content at any temp… it is the only standard of measure…
however a volume measured gallon could be much different both in weight and BTU content… so a gallon of fuel isn’t a true gallon unless it is kept at 60* or has been temperature compensated…
Propane delivery trucks for home heating are all required to have TC devices connected to their pump, and why weight is the best method of filling small cylinders of propane…
At a retail level some states may require TC on motor fuels and a number of states are considering it they don’t require it already…
I can’t imagine a bulk buyer not using some form of TC when buying their supply, even liquid asphalts are temperature compensated… since we don’t control the outside temps it is the only way to know what you are getting and that you are getting what you are paying for…

RE: Laundry Day!

Hey your not so new…
...........
In public forum you do need to develop some thick skin…
...............
In my opinion, only 32 posts since 2010 would still be considered a newbie.
Thick skin? That may take more than 32 posts and a variety of responses to grow. :W
Results will vary. LOL
Sometimes it to easy for us to forget, things we maybe shouldn’t, in many more ways than in public forums…
To that I admit my guilt…

RE: Laundry Day!

Hey your not so new… OP means original post as in the first post in this thread…
In public forum you do need to develop some thick skin… you put your words out there and hundreds or more read it and scrutinize it, and then in open forum there is give and take… some right some wrong, usually unimportant… but understanding isn’t always the goal…
Your post to me seemed to be a rant primarily coupled with the question…
the question made a lot of sense on its own…
the rant not so much, and adding facts later as justification seems to always add more questions than it gives answers…
Myself I try to reply based on what was said exactly as I see it and say what I think popular or not… is that wrong??? I don’t know… should I not say anything??? If so, Then why should I even waste my time here…
Anyway no harm was intended certainly not by me and your critique of my response is well taken… lets face it no matter how new you are here, you have done better than many of the veterans… you responded and didn’t let what I or others said prevent that, and that speaks well to your creditability…
Your question… I have never done anything but go by appearance of the place and the machines… the Lysol was a good idea…
Why didn’t you wait for the boot owners to come back??? Or at least hide their boots???

RE: Not getting hot water inside the camper...

Its unnecessarily confusing because there is no standard and RV mfg’s have used dozens of different set-ups… as well as the winterizing kits sold have changed over and over again leaving many different configurations in use every year… all to perform a simple operation…
There are so many configurations and everyone in a effort to help gives information on the one they have and know and that sometimes makes it more confusing for some…
While I don’t know what he has for sure making my answer no more than a guess itself, based on what the OP said I believe he has a simple 2 off/on valve system and a stuck check valve on the hot water outlet… pretty common system in the past…
see one here

RE: Not getting hot water inside the camper...

I am starting to pick up what you guys are putting down. I just keep getting confused about this 'brass fitting' ?
I wish I could figure out how to upload a picture of it so someone could basically hold my hand LOL. But I don't have a URL.
Forget the word brass, It is just a fitting between the piping and the water heater, screwed right into the water heater… easy to remove if you can get to it…
It can be replaced with another check valve or a hand valve…
With the hand valve (three valve setup) to winterize you close both top and bottom valves and open the bypass…
The problem without the check valve is you may get some hot water through the cold spigots if no water was used for a while so the check valve is the preferred method of plumbing them…
Some have a single diverter valve instead of 2 valves… it is either set to bypass or normal use… it to uses the check valve for the same reasons…
Once the water is heated small amounts of hot can be mixed with the cold water through the bottom (in) piping, but because it is so low and takes so long it is seldom a problem, and might only be noticed at the sink directly above or very close to the water heater…
Good luck

RE: Not getting hot water inside the camper...

When you winterize you close the bottom inlet valve to prevent water to the heater, and open the bypass that allows water to everything else… the one way check valve prevents water from entering the heater from the top…
With the hot spigot open there is negative pressure on the out side of the check valve allowing it to open and send hot water… with the hot spigot closed the pressure equalizes allowing a spring to close the valve and prevent the hot water in the tank from naturally rising and mixing with the cold water system…

RE: Not getting hot water inside the camper...

Yes that is the bypass and it needs to be closed to direct the water through the heater… you have a one way check valve coming out of the top of the heater… with the valves set correctly and no hot water, that check valve is stuck closed and most likely will need replaced… you can carefully try to tap on it and see if it will spring open for now, but even then plan on replacing it or eliminating it and adding a third hand valve…

I have to make assumptions on what your are replacing, but it seems to start with those tires are almost 2 ½ inches taller and you will need to know if they fit under the trailer…

RE: Not getting hot water inside the camper...

If you have the 2 valve system the bypass valve needs to be closed…
The bottom inlet valve open and the outlet check valve will open from pressure…
you have the bypass open and no negative pressure on the out side of the check valve when you open the spigot this way...
