RE: north pole cg or lake placid koa

In Wilmington, make sure you go to the Candy Man -- I can think that's the store name -- they've been making their own chocolates for years. They're VERY good. They also sell them from a store in downtown Lake Placid.

RE: north pole cg or lake placid koa

By the way, I find the KOA more big rig friendly than the North Pole campground. Oops - missed the "older couple" part. I guess Santa's Workshop is out! :) Lake Placid is a lot of fun - just browsing the shops downtown can take an entire day. There are frequently events at the horse arena in nearby North Elba or at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid.

RE: north pole cg or lake placid koa

We've stayed at both. The KOA has a really unique feel to it. -- very Adirondack-ish. As far as things to do in the area:
Visit High Falls Gorge
Ride the gondolas to the top of Little Whiteface Mountain
Ride a bobsled
Family Fun
Drive up Whiteface Mountain (ends in a different location than the gondola ride)
Mountain Biking -- lots of it
Santa's Workshop -- lots of fun for little ones

Eat at the A & W
There are a few other really good restaurants - We like the Wilderness Inn and the Hungry Trout in Wilmington
If you have kayaks, the Chubb River is a must! We love the isolation of it!
My husband likes to bicycle up Whiteface, and then back down.
We live about 90 minutes north of there -- we NEVER run out of things to do!

RE: Upgrade to Lion?

I don't know what apps you use, but I found some issues with having to upgrade software or upgrades not being available.

RE: Disney FW Question

We stayed at Tropical Palms RV Resort in Kissimmee and saved a TON of money. The drive to the parks is minimal. Of course that means we didn't do a meal plan -- however, we did that for our 25th anniversary when we stayed on Disney a few years ago. We discovered that you needed to eat a certain number of meals at the sit-down restaurants and they were often booked solid. It made it really hard to use the meal coupons.
This last trip was unplanned -- my brother-in-law's last wish was to go to Disney with his boys, ages 7 and 10. We made it happen in late June, early July. He died early this month, but his children will have awesome memories of their trip with dad.

RE: Disney

We stayed at Tropical Palms (Kissimmee) in July -- we were very pleased. The pool was open late, and the sites were reasonable in size. The employees bent over backwards to help us.
