RE: Royal Purple

Has anybody tried it ? Results? I had people tell me it's the best, but I really can't justify the cost. About 50% more than Rotella synthetic.
Rotella synthetic isn't even really synthetic. Its highly refined dino oil, thats why its less money. Royal Purple is a true synthetic and thats why it has the price tag it does.

RE: Chevy 2500HD FORGED wheels

Spice that Chevy up a bit and put some 3rd gen Dodge wheels on it.;)
The stock 17" Forged aluminum wheels are a dime a dozen on Craiglist.
Or find a set of H2 takeoffs. I think they're forged as well.

RE: Dodge Mega Cab 1500 vs 2500

There is no real difference between 1500 and 2500 MegaCab with Hemi. No offense to those whe have replied so far, but if you do not know the facts, do not confuse others. It has been said on this forum that the door badge (1500) does not mean much these days (see GM 1500HD for example).
Anyway, 1500 megacab was only offered with Hemi engine, GVWR was 8510, payload was about 2000, and max trailer was 7500 with 373 rear, and around 8000 with optional 410.And it's a heavy duty truck (3/4 ton).
2500 Megacab can be had with Hemi or Cummins, thats why the max towing is listed as 12K or so, but that's with diesel. With Hemi is about the same as 1500 version. The GVWR for 2500 Megacab is 8800, thus you get more payload.
1500 QuadCab is a whole different animal.
PS: I know all that because I had 1500 Megacab. Great towing / family machine.
This post and the one by surveyor are correct. Some others are just plain wrong.
Just like it ALWAYS is,somebody sees a 1500 mentioned and begins spouting off about things they know nothing about. Happens all the time with GMs 1500HD.

RE: 20 inch wheels vs 17 inch wheels and towing

I am getting confusing results while researching this...some say you lose towing capacity by going with the 20's, but in fact the only difference is in weight, not circumference, so the ratio shouldnt change.
The reason you're getting confusion results is that most people don't know squat about tires, other than they're round and black.
The difference between the two tire sizes is 1/3" or 1%
You'll never feel any difference in power with the SLIGHTY taller 20" tires and wheels.
This argument comes up all the time. Most people don't realize that as the wheel diameter goes up,the sidewall height usually goes down.
They assume a 20" tire/wheel is 3" taller than a 17" tire/wheel.
Either wheel will work fine.

RE: Pacbrake or ????

I've had the Pacbrake PRXB on my truck for about 30,000 miles. Works like a champ.
Lary at The Diesel Truck Resource had the best price.

RE: Diesel fuel filter JUST IN CASE

You guys spent $20,000-$50,000 on your trucks so why skimp out on the filters? Those filters are the life blood of your truck...
Who said anything about skimping?
I suppose you buy all your oil, filters, coolant, tires, brakes, etc at the dealer?
Why pay insane dealer prices for a fuel filter, when you can buy a filter of the same quailty or BETTER for less money?

RE: Diesel fuel filter JUST IN CASE

Same thing applies for the spin on filter on the Allison. They were almost $30 at the Chevy dealer. My local Allison shop had the same filter for $7.

RE: 2008 Dodge 3500 Dually CTD 4wd Manual trans Follow-up

My dads got a truck identical to the one in my signature. Only difference is the engine,he has the 6.7
Other than a reflash at about 10k miles, its been trouble free. Its not a daily driver though. When he drives it,theres about 9000lbs behind him. I think the majority of problems associated with the 6.7 are from the guys that don't work the truck. The 6.7 doesn't seem to respond well when its babied.
On another note, that truck seems to be priced way too high.
My truck as well as my dads were right at $34K brand new.

In the market for a used Tacoma?

Don't buy the Silver 2wd I saw at Lowes last night. The owner was trying to get the forklift operator to put a pallet of concrete in his truck. The guy running the forklift basically said theres no way I'm loading it all in your truck.
The customer got mad and decided to hand load it himself.I stood around for a few minutes to see if he was really going to take it all. He put all 42 of the 80lb bags in his Tacoma. Thats 3360lbs he put in the bed.:E
That would be a stout load for my 1 ton.
The rear tires were almost flat, and the nose had some serious Kentucky windage to 'er.
The look of his truck didn't even phase him. He jumped in and away he went.

RE: PAC Brake

I've had one on my truck for about 2 1/2 years. I use it all the time. The only time its shut off is when the roads are slick.
If you don't use it frequently,it can get carboned up and can stick open.
If you use it frequently, there really isn't a need for the lubricant they sell.

RE: Who hates diesel?

I hate diesels and I own one. I hate the smell, the noise and standing in a puddle of diesel just to fill up.
The diesel gets on your hands and shoes and then you smell it when you get back in the truck.
Diesels suck.

RE: 5.9 cummins turbo oil pressure

The oil pressure gauge isn't even an actual gauge. Its a moving idiot light.
The ECM sends a signal to the gauge based on rpm and temps. Basically makes the gauge read what you think it should.
There's a 6psi pressure switch in the block. If there isn't at least 6psi the switch will trip a check engine light.
But as far as oil pressure goes, you're not seeing what the oil pressure actually is.

RE: Dodge 6.7 diesel Auto transmission

The 68RFE is developing a reputation as the best auto tranny in a Heavy Duty truck. I've heard of people modding well above 100 HP and still going strong.
The old 48RE behind the 5.9 was a great tranny also. The guys that like to bash Dodge automatics will never admit it,but the 48RE had less TSBs and recalls than the "mighty" Allison that everyone thinks is so great.

RE: Aftermarket Clutch For 2007 Dodge 3500 RAM

Thanks again for the suggestions. I believe the South Bend is the most expensive of the clutches out there, such as Valair and Centerforce. Is there any reason to stay away from these less expensive replacements? Yes, I'm leaning towards South Bend but am still curious about these other lesser recommended brands.
From the research I've done, the Centerforce clutches are more geared towards the car/light duty crowd than HD trucks that tow all the time. Centerforce does offer a single Dodge truck model thats suitable for the street (not drag racing or sled pulling).
Valair has been rumored to use cheap materials. Their customer service is also known to be spotty. I've read far more complaints about Valair than Southbend.
Other than the people that choose the wrong clutch for their application,I don't recall ever hearing of someone that wasn't happy with Southbend.

RE: Aftermarket Clutch For 2007 Dodge 3500 RAM

The CON OFE by Southbend is about as stock feeling as you can get while being a higher performance clutch. It'll hold 450ish HP.
Its just the slightest bit grabbier than stock with virtually no difference in pedal feel.
No excess noise either.
The OFE is whats going in my truck if/when the stock clutch is done.
