RE: what's true

Dexter Axle introduced the self adjusting brake for trailers a while back... My good friend JBarca, a member here, put them on his trailer over a year ago...
I would assume that certain model trailers are now coming with them or at least the self adjusting brakes being offered as an option...

RE: iSeries Tank System Monitor

Very similar to the old Acc -U Gauge I had installed on my 20 footer... You could use them or you could use SeeLevel Gauges... Same concept, different implementation... I have See Level gauges in my rig...

RE: how much I weight and am I safe?

Looks pretty good from where I sit - just need the truck's GCWR to make sure your below that, but I would expect that to be at least #17,000 or so with a 2500 RAM...

RE: UltraFab 3000 power tongue jack fell out!

Chuck,
I would expect it to hit a limit switch or clutch or something to that effect... The falling out doesn't seem normal - maybe something got sheared off ??? Maybe a call to Ultra Fab is in order...

RE: HELP! Pairing TT with TV

I am not a proponent of towing with SUV's but that said here are my comments...
With the trailer GVWR at #6500, you could probably tow it with any of the SUV's you mentioned... The issue with the 1500's or 1/2 tons is payload and your liable to exceed that number depending on the TT hitch weight coupled along with the weights of your family...
At max gross of #6500, your tongue weight at 13% of total TT weight would be #845 pounds leaving you in the area #700-#900 for family and cargo in the SUV so you would probably be towing close to maximums...
But all that said, you would probably be within the specifications of the SUV's in question... The only other issue I see is a decent hitch with some type of sway control and a decent brake controller...

RE: I guess it's Bikefest weekend near here at the CG!?

Well, I wasn't a suit and tie guy, but I was an IT professional and I have been riding for 45 years... Some in our "Old Retired Guys" sub group of our club (Gypsy Wheels) are retired Chicago Police, Dentist, business owners, IT professionals, and a host of other careers as well...
We ride Honda Gold Wings, but it really doesn't matter what you ride - as long as you ride :W
I don't try to explain to people why I ride a motorcycle,
For those who understand, no explanation is necessary,
For those who don't understand, no explanation is possible...

RE: Docking Lights

I just drew this up for a fellow RV.Net member... It enables one to have the lights come on automatically when the TV is in reverse, they can also be switched on manually or they can be turned off... The DPDT switch is a center off type...
You can parallel the contacts as shown for additional current handling capability or you can switch grounds with the other side and only use one side for switching power... Additionally, you can insert a relay for even more current carrying capability...
The member I drew this for was using LED lights so current wasn't an issue...

RE: Our first Camping trip with our new trailer

you have to copy the IMG syntax for the appropriate photo and then paste it into your post - it would look something like the example below but of course contain your information...
The "width=640" statement is something you type in after the paste to resize the photo to RV.Net picture size standards... Only the width is required - the forum software automatically resizes to the proper proportions...

RE: Heavy duty shocks, super springs or both for truck?

I agree with what anaro and MitchF150 said... You have 2 issues here...
1. Improper hitch setup - - - - and
2. Too much trailer for too little truck

RE: Hunter thermostat upgrade question

Is there any way to hook up a thermostat to a non ducted A/C unit. Sorry to jump in but I've thinking about this and now seemed a good time to ask.
Yes, there is a way to do it but it's not real easy and can be a bit pricy...
Send a PM to our Tech Issue Moderator 96bounder30E (go to tech issues and click on his ID at the top of the forum and send a PM)... He did the modification quite a few years ago and might still have documentation available...

RE: Hunter thermostat upgrade question

That was my original article of some 10 years ago that jimtoo linked you to... It's wiring instructions are still valid today...
The link in my signature will also take you to that same article... Pretty straight forward mod - let me know if you have any trouble with the install...
