RE: Why can't I be happy with what I've got????

Why can't I be happy with what I've got????
Unfortunately it is the American way. We proclaim how great our diesels are. How they can easily go 300k miles and last forever. Then we turn around and trade them in 2 years later with less than 40K on the clock. We want the big three to build a better quality vehicle to keep pace with the imports but we don't want to keep our cars any longer than three years..go figure

RE: Campground near Baltimore Convention Center???

Don't know if 10 minutes really matters but, the KOA is closer to 30 minutes away from convention center in good traffic. This is based on experience not Mapquest.

RE: Firestone Airbags

You guys are making it way to complicated. The tee works fine. The advantage of the tee is you fill both bags at the same time with the same pressurre it's just that simple. As far as cornering the air does not travel between bags that easily.
Installing with 2 valves will work great if you decide to load a ton of bricks only on one side of the truck.

RE: Camping for $115 a night

It's all relative. You can stay at the Super 8/Motel 6 or you can stay at the Four Season / Ritz Carlton. Capitalism is a wonderful thing.........usually!

RE: hitch/carrier on rear of TT

I have a custom welded platform on the rear of my TT. I have added close to 400# to the rear. I have had this set up going on 3 season now and all is well.
I must caution you the added weight on the rear will drastically effect the handling of your rig. You will need to reload your cargo to ensure an acceptable tongue weight. A Sherline tongue scale should be used to do this properly. I do not recommend you add a lot of weight to the rear of your TT unless you have a full size full "I" beam framed rig. Anything light weight or reduced weight may not withstand the stress that the additional weight adds to the frame.
I would also not suggest you not add the carrier if your TV is marginal. The weight will change the dynamics and balance of your rig. A marginal TV can easily be pushed around by the somewhat unbalanced trailer.
I have had no issues with my carrier once I reloaded and properly distributed my cargo, however if I felt my rig was 100% stable prior to the carrier. I now would give it a 98% rating. Granted this rating is all my own subjectiveness but, my point is I can feel the difference in the handling before and after the carrier.
I don't want to discourage you, but I want to give you some insight from my experience. I had a few members advise me not to install the carrier but I persisted. I do suggest you get a Sherline Tongue Scale and spend sometime at the scales. Have a good idea of all of your true weights before and after the platform. The TT will be more unstable and more likely to push around marginal TV that is not stout enough for the additional weight. If you are at the limits of your TV now, the platform could be the last straw.

RE: Using a slide when its in ?

I know that I will come across as intolerant but has anyone ever read your owners manual!!!
Mine states very clearly not to use the slides when they are in. I have had this statement in both of my 5ers owner manual that I have owned. The slide frame is not designed for this type of loading that will be placed on the slide when walking or sitting with it closed. How much time does it take to slid-out the slide at a rest stop to use it?
I do this all the time when we stop at a rest stop to have lunch.
Just my $0.02
Depending on where you are parked opening a slide could pose a hazard.
The next logical thing would be to pakrk somewhere else, however that may not be simple either for a 60' rig.
All rigs are not constructed the same. I am able to use my rig with the slides in without an issue. Others may need slides out to have full access.

RE: Aluminum vs Steel Rims

80 PSI rated Aluminum wheels were much easier to locate than finding a 80PSI rated steel rim. I had already had issues with the OEM steel rims. The wheel salesman recommended aluminum over steel claimed he had less issues with aluminum.

RE: Advice on choosing between Chev Suburban TV's

I can understand and respect your desire to stay within your means and to sacrifice as required to do so. With your budget in mind I would choose the 6.0 simply because it is newer and will hopefully last longer than the 99. My thoughts on the 7.4 while they are decent engines there time has come and gone.
Your G2 maybe more than an older 7.4 is ready to handle without some major TLC.
The 6.0 may lack raw power but with a bit a patience can get the job done, particularly on flat ground

RE: Advice on choosing between Chev Suburban TV's

Are you looking to tow that G2 with the new Burb? I'd be disappointed with both of those choices. Maybe they are hard to find but for me only a 8.1 Burb or another X would do.

The 50 to 30 adapter is good to have. You won't have to use it very often, but on that rare occurrence you will be glad you have it.

RE: Campground near Baltimore Convention Center???

Both places mentioned above are decent places. They are both 30-40 minutes away in good traffic. Rush hour will be a little longer
If you like state parks Patapsco State Park is a nice place and is only 20 minutes from downtown.
The only negative to Patapsaco is that the sites are electric only. Not a deal breaker for me, I prefer the larger sites and the cheaper state park rates. All I really need is electric. I am fine with using my onboard tanks.
I live in the area and have been to all 3 places. Patapsaco is the closest, followed by KOA and then Rambl'in Pines. Feel free to PM me if you need anymore info on those places.

RE: Engineers Needed! How to use a trailer dolly with a Hensley?

I have a 2-9/16 coupler welded to a HA stinger. Insert stinger into HA as normal only instead of attaching to receiver of TV there is a 2-9/16" coupler on the end that will attach to the ball of your dolly. I can post a picture if you'd like.
I think I've got it pictured... But - I'm still wondering if the trailer can be steered if you are attaching a dolly to the Hensley.
Is what you described what you use, and can you steer with it?
Sorry I didn't mention my HA rep suggested I use a large screwdriver, tire iron or something to place into the alignment slot on top of the HA to keep it from pivoting. He told me this would be OK and not hurt the HA when being moved around at very low parking speeds. I made my coupler contraption for use when I take my TT in for service. The service guys are able to move the TT using the fork lift. Prior to the stinger coupler I would have to remove the HA when taking TT for service. I avoid taking my TT in for service like the plague and have only used the coupler stinger once, however it did work as designed.

RE: Question about staying near Niagara Falls?

Yes, but I was really looking to stay further out and with full hookups.
Four Mile Creek is a great place. However as you noted it is only 15 minutes away and does not have full hook ups.
Nevertheless it is still the place to stay when visiting the falls.

RE: Disappointing, no 6.4 for the Ram

The problem with big gasser is is their poor fuel economy, and the drag-down that has on the rest of the C.A.F.E. pool.
The above is the reason for the demise of the big gasser. Demand and cost are not the issue. The big gassers are being regulated into extinction. GM dropped the 8.1 a couple of years back and now Ford needs to loose the V-10 to meet overall fleet MPG/emissions standards.
In the near future our choices will be small block gassers with 6 or more speed transmissions or high tech diesels with lots of emissions controls.
In the long run this is designed to make a cleaner less polluted world.
For now I plan to hold onto my current diesel or upgrade to a pre emissions diesel. As someone already mentioned the new diesels scare me as well.
Today's gas vs. diesel debate is changing.
Comparing diesels to small block gassers clouds the picture. Hopefully small diesel engines will finally reach the market place and fill the niche left by the big block gassers.
In terms of towing performance the only advantage a gasser has over a diesel is price. A diesel wins in all other comparisons.

RE: Thumbs DOWN on one of the BIG THREE CGs @ MB

As others have said the whole story stinks and is kind of pointless. Why would you want to go back? Why would your wife decide to set her own lost and found policy? Why would a deacon choose to describe the Lakewood security in such a negative way? If an incident did take place let it go at this point and consider MB down to the Big 2!

RE: Pairing Honda EU2000i questions

Is your TT a full frame unit or a light weight model? If it is full frame you may consider a rear platform. I have a welded platform on the rear of my TT and run a 167# Robin Subaru 4300is genset. All I do is plug in a turn the key. No parallel cables or auxiliary tanks to deal with. No lifting either. Just a thought.

You will love Knoebels, however I didn't think much of the Knoebols on site campground. The best thing about it is it is close to the park otherwise..........J&D mentioned above is the place to stay for a Knoebels outing.

RE: Could you live without your bike door?

I don't have a bike door on my TT but I would like to. Not sure I would use it for bikes but I'm sure I could find plenty of things to carry in the garage area. I use a Toppoprails Rack
for my bikes. The toppoprail rack is the ultimate solution in my opinion for carrying and storing bikes on a TT.
