RE: Almost a Class A Owner!!

Good luck David. Just changed from a 5th wheel to DP. Will be taking our first trip in Sept. I wanted a newer one but I also wanted a DP so I found a good clean DP well within our price range. For three or four trips a year it is good enough. The old girl drives like a dream. Can't wait until Sept. Will probably try a short trip in a couple of weeks to shake it down.

RE: Trade-in? Or outright purchase?

Just bought my first used MH. My trade in was a 2000 28ft Montana that I put a lot of miles on that was still serviceable. I didn't want to sell it to an individual because of some issues with the trailer.
Money wise it is usually better to sell your unit privately. But I traded to keep from putting a lot of money in it.
Here is how I come out. If you figure the AVG Nada retail of the unit including options then figure the AVG Nada retail of your trade in. The difference would be the starting point for negotiating an "Out the Door" price.
Also have your money ready so when you get that call for "end of month" sale you will be ready. So I didn't get avg retail but I got way above wholesale.
So think "out the door" price when trading in.
What was on the contract was entirely different. They listed the price at high retail and backed in figures for my "out the door" value.
It is a deal I can live with. Out the door includes tax and title fees.

RE: Damon is junk

I have been looking at MHs since the first of the year. Ive looked at everything including Damons,Newmars Fleetwoods and Monaco products in all years. I just could not decide and had to stay within a dollar value. Then out the blue I found this 98 Endevor DP that really caught our eye. Spotless. I labored a lot about buying an older coach so I guess I was a little crazy for doing so but I like the coach more now than when I first saw it. Can't wait to get it on the road.
With my old Montana 5th wheel I was always used to hear customer service stating to talk to my dealer about problems. But HR customer service bent over backwards to help me my questions. They even sent me all the paint codes by email. A refreshing change.

RE: Siding Problem

Just wanted to let everyone know I was partially successful. I injected the epoxy by filling the empty caulking tubes. I flattened some copper tubing and put it into the affected area of the filon. The epoxy was easy to inject. But I had the wrong consistancy and it run everywhere but the right place. I clamped it for 24 hours and found the the bubble was reduced by 50 percent. So some success.
I decided that I would be better off doing small areas at a time by using a needle injection scheme. My wifew had found these the week before so as I headed out the door to buy them a MH dealer called and offered me a deal that could not refuse. So I traded the coach. I am now an MH owner.

RE: 2001 RX300 as Dinghy.

Thanks for the input DJ. Mine is a FWD. Lexus corporate still sticks to their guns that it is ok. Get the same info as you from local Lexus mechanics. I knew someday we might get an MH so when we bought the RX300 it was a powerful selling point. I didn't know it would be this long.
But I will base my decision on the facts such as case historys although I do appreciate opinions. The Lexus mechanics could not give one instant of a failure when following mfg procedure for towing. I have heard from forum members that have been successful pulling a 99-01 RX-300.
I would like to hear about both the successes and failure.
Thanks again

2001 RX300 as Dinghy.

Just purchased a DP and would like to tow our RX300 4 on the floor.
Lexus manual shows it can as long as you don't exceed 55 and start engine every 200 miles.
I have searched the internet and this forum and found that some failures have occurred using this method of towing. Further more I hear some success stories.
Contacted my local dealer and they feel that that a lube pump would be necessary even though my calls and e-mail to Lexus indicated otherwise. Really confusing.
So what I would like to see some help on is
Are there other companys other than Remco that make Lube pumps that are not as expensive?
If I decide to go with the tow dolly are there any pitfalls out there I should know about other than handling problems pointed out in the forum?
Would like to hear from RX300 owners that are towing 4 on the floor without a lube pump.

RE: Siding Problem

Will do. I am going to order the caulking tubes tomorrow from West Marine. They don't keep them in stock. I still have high hopes this will work with the right injection scheme. The epoxy mixture I think is perfect for this application. I think it will repair some of the damaged luan.

Ok guys the basters failed to provide the pressure I needed. I have some other options to think about know. So don't expect anything from me for several weeks. I may try the re-fillable cauking tubes and attach a small hose to it

RE: Height question for a DP

Thanks for the info.
Answer No. These are free standing carports that are held down by Mobile home supports. They are allowed in the county. The permanent type rvport will run twice as much. I personnally don't think that either will standup to a full Blown Hurricane although both would be certified to better than 120mph. The free standing come in choice of colors and are more attractive to look at versus a straight flat roof type. Have estimates for both.

RE: Siding Problem

I have some before pixs. Don't expect anything for a few days. I am still during preparations and taking my time about it. I will post all pix into a slide show on PICSA. Then provide the link.
I don't know if this will work. I have about 15O invested so far.

RE: Height question for a DP

I am going to contract for a CarolinaCarport with 12 ft legs and a slope type roof. I have decided on the 20 x 41 standard model. They have other sizes. My RV drive is 12 foot wide and I plan on centering the carport over the drive. I talked directly with their eng so the top of the center will be 2ft 10in above the 12ft legs but bracing will limit the clearance to 2ft or 14 ft total. At each edge of the drive it computes to 13ft 6 inch. So my questions to the forum concerned wheather a DP will go under the port.
There are quite a few different Mfgrs of these things and the pricing is very reasonable. They are certified to at least 130mph which is good enough for my county.
If I get no negatives on my post I will sign up in a couple of days. Thanks for all comments..

RE: Siding Problem

You may want to stay in touch with me. I have a de-lamination issue on my trailer. The best I can determine the moisture entered through the area around the fridge cover. It was never sealed there. I think it acted like a blotter. But as far as I can see with a bright light it does not look too bad. The filon seperated from the luan.
Based on info of this forum here is what I plan on doing this week. I purchased stuff from West Marine. 105 Resin, 209 hardner, no filler.
West system pump set plus mixing bowels. Then I had the wife go to walgreens and get me a couple of Turkey Basters(glass suction tubes)
Purchased some small tubing from the hardware. Taped coathange wire to the tubing.
Now I plan to insert the tube into the affected area, maybe a foot and a half. After mixing with the slow hardner I will inject the thin epoxy using the baster through the tube to saturate the luan with the epoxy while slowly removing the tube. Then place a wood plate on the area and compress it for 24 hours.
I will be taking before after pixs. If your interested I can send them to you. I have no idea if this will work. It may be a waste of money but I am going to try.
Just send me your e-mail in a private message. Will take at least a week to set this up.

RE: Height question for a DP

Thanks,
As long as the sides are less than 13'6 with air inflated and the center is less than the legal limit of 14, I am good to go with my RV Port. Should be up within a month. Then I will buu one. I spend a lot of time cleaning tree sap off my trailer during the winter. So my cover should prevent this on my MH.

RE: Height question for a DP

Thanks a bunch. One dealer told me deflated. Before I get one I am putting up a 20 x 41 cover over my RV driveway. To get higher than the standard model is very expensive. So I will have 13'6" and each side of the driveway and 14' in the center. Should be good enough.

Height question for a DP

I may be buying a Class A DP and I need to know if the height measurement listed in the brochures is with the air suspension inflated or deflated. I have been told that the inflation may add 6 to 8 inches in height.

RE: May be buying Class A

Thanks for the info and link. It comforms my info that Coachman may be a poor performer for the customers.
I made my final offer but I don't think they will accept.
The link you gave is a nice one. If I buy a new one may use one of the better companys listed but in this economy everybody is hurting.
Coachman re sales may be down but there NADA values have held up pretty good. But it the deal fails I will move on. At least my 5th wheel has held up wonderful especially after being caught in the Kansas/Oklahoma blizzard this year. It is cheap to operate and easy to repair. Except wife wants an MH.

RE: May be buying Class A

Thanks guys.
I am trying to stay within 50-60 so I won't have to finance. It may not be possible
Thanks for the info on the frame. While searching the internet I found a brochure on both the 2005 and 2006 I didn't thing to check this out. Both the 2005 and 2006 does not mention horsepower or anything about the tranny. The both have the F53. GCWR is the same at 26000. The gvwr on the o6 is approx 1500 more than the 05 but the 06 has 700 more of curb weight.
The carfax states that it is a 2004 version of the frame so It would be reasonable to assume the 2006 may have a 2005 version.
Please keep info coming.
