RE: 5 year old "new" motorhome

I may not have said that the dealership is kaput already. The remaining stock, about 80% of which appears to be well used trade-ins is being sold off as-is, no warranty by an auction house.
So, I will pass on making a deal unless they look to be going for an incredibly low price. But I'll go to the auction this weekend and how it goes.

5 year old "new" motorhome

Does anyone have any input on how to go about putting a value on a motorhome being auctioned off by a dealership going out of business. It's a 2005 model Four Winds Windsport that was never sold. They put an original MSRP of around 124,000 on it. Seems like a long time to keep a new motorhome on the lot without selling it but they have 4 or 5 of them...some of them even older. Is this common with RV dealerships? I assume it would be worth more than a used 2005 model but how much more? I didn't really have plans to buy a new RV right now but I like this one and if it could be had for a bargain I'd go for it. Any opinions on what its worth might be?

RE: Considering Seasonal Camping need some advice

1) Awning - Many leave theirs out and tied down. I always roll mine in..only takes a couple minutes and there's no risk of a big wind causing damage.
2) Slides - I leave my slide out all season. I don't see any reason to support.
3) Tires - on the ground.
4) Tanks - Dump before I head for home. Always add some amount of water after dumping black...to keep odor down.
5) Keys - If they give you a reason that sounds appropriate to you. Ours does not keep keys. Although, I keep my keys on a separate keyring and sooner or later I'll arrive without them.
6 Fridge - I leave ours running...takes too long to cool down and we leave some food in it.
7 Gas - Always leave it on so fridge will switch over in case of a power outage. Make sure you turn off furnace before leaving though.
8 I always turn off water.

RE: jayco fifth wheel bed

By standard do you mean standard for an RV? When I was younger I worked at a mattress factory building and inspecting mattresses and a standard "home" queen size is 60x80. Is 60x78 what a standard RV queen dimensions are?

RE: Smokey Mountains campgrounds

It sounds like you might want to be around Asheville for at least part of the time. I just returned from a week at Mama Gerties which is about 10 minutes east of Asheville. It's a smallish campground and most sites are small but it's hands down the nicest, friendliest campground I've been in 30+ years of camping. The roads in the cg are steep but I saw a number of large coaches there. I'd ask for one of the 4-5 sites on the very top row which is a large level area. The rest of the sites are kind of carved out of the side of the mountain. A worker will lead you to your site and help you get situated. Within minutes of a site being vacated there is someone there cleaning it thoroughly and even raking the gravel. Wifi...nice individual private showers with their own dressing rooms.
Make sure you get the audio option for the Biltmore house...well worth it.

RE: Jekyll Island---Anyone going soon?

Not soon enough but we'll be there June 12. First time for us. Eight days on Jekyll then another eight days at Hunting Island then a week at Asheville, NC before heading home...maybe.

RE: Passport America

I'm planning a several week trip in June and there are a couple of PA campgrounds that would fit into my plans. Will they take a PA reservation this early or would I have to wait until near June to see if they will have availability?

RE: Layover on 68

Some years back I was taking this route and stopped in a rest area somewhere along I68 which was very nice and had a totally seperate area for RV parking and truck parking. When I passed thru there a year or so ago I wasn't able to find this rest area again. Does anyone know where exactly it might be located? When I saw this thread I hoped that someone would mention it. It was aomewhere between the MD state line and 522 (near Hanncock)going eastbound.
