RE: Lap top battery life

The battery in my Toshiba is totally dead, and like you I found the replacement price to be "outrageous" for the life it would have.
My solution was to purchase a deep cycle battery, DC to DC convertor and use that to power my laptop. The biggest advantage is that the battery now will last over 20 hours without needing a charge. The disadvantage is the weight of the battery BUT... I only use it in the van or camper so who cares?

RE: Sad Report from El Capitan SP, CA

The park was full at least on Friday and Saturday so it's hard to understand why it's not making money and they don't put some of that money back into maintenance so they can continue to make money. Two days in one month don't make up for all the other days it isn't full.

RE: camping spot in Pike Nat'l Forest CO

Hi- Wondered if anyone would have recommendations for a group of young men and boys heading up to the mountains near Buena Vista, preferably in Pike Nat'l Forest. You won't find anything in Pike Nat'l Forest around Buenie because that area is in the San Isabel Nat'l forest. :)
We'll be taking up 2 motor homes on Friday, Oct. 16. and staying til Sunday P.M. We'd like a pull off with no hook ups, just a natural setting. Also, not too far from some sort of facility that we could rent for Saturday night and Sunday morning. There'll be about 30 of us. Thanks in advance!Try Badger Flats area or the Round Mountain area if you want to stay in PNF.
Be aware that that late in the season you'll probably have hunters out there as well as the possibility of snow.

RE: 4X4 trail Aspen to Crested Butte

Those passes should only be used by experienced "4 wheelers" (rock hoppers), even they have troubles when conditons change, such as wash-outs, slides, soft spots from rains, etc.
Looks like they (the 4x4 passes) are finished for the season, as mentioned there is a big storm moving into the mountains tonight (9-20),and snow expected down to 7500 ft elevations in some areas. To add to this, those experienced, serious off roaders go in convoys of several vehicles not alone.

RE: Colorado hwy 160

It is 2 lane, you're not going to end up holding up traffic. There are plenty of places for people to pass you.

RE: Brain is fried!!! Help

I used to boondock for up to 2 weeks at a time. I had 2 group 24 batteries, a 1000 watt generator, and an automobile battery charger. What I found was that after 4 days I needed to recharge the batteries. Although solar is nice, you need probably 3-400 watts of power on the roof to keep up with the draw.

RE: PNW, Rockies - How to find when the passes get snow?

These are mostly off road passes and this site is not always accurate.
It is what it is. It's dated first hand reports from people who have driven the passes. I've used it many times and have found it very acurate and useful. So I'm supposed to rely on a report from June about the condition of Marshall Pass for this weekends trip? :h I don't think so.
COTRIP is a much better resource for regular highways and road conditions.

RE: Recommendations for long term along CO's front range?

There is Flying Saucer RV Park in Englewood, a suburb of Denver. I have never stayed there but pass by it a lot. {snip} It got some recent good ratings on rvparkreviews
With all the brouhaha regarding rv parks reviews, you'd tell someone to use them for ratings? :h

RE: Forest Service CG - Extra Charge for Toad?

Talking to anyone other than the NFS is a waste of time. Opinions that we have, experiences that we've come across, may be totally different than what you'll encounter in your area.
If it was me... I'd contact the local office and see what kind of answer you get from them, and then I'd even follow that up with contacting someone in Washington at the head office.

RE: Gunnison Colo.

I will be heading west to Gunnison in a couple of weeks and would like information on the shortest way there from I70.Shortest way from the west would be to take Hwy 24 at Limon to Colorado Springs. Then take Hwy 115 to Penrose where you would take Hwy 50 west to Canon City and onward to Gunnison.

RE: Strange question about AC power in tow-behind trailer

I just can't see how a recording studio could tolerate the amount of noise generated by an Air Conditioner and a couple of gennies. If you re-read the OPs posting, you'll see it is a production unit not a recording studio.

RE: High density RV parks

First off, I live in Colo. Spgs., and I sure don't consider GoG campground to be a "resort". It is exactly what you are complaining about. It is a piece of property with as many campsites as possible crammed into it.
Secondly, what did you expect? You are in an area known for its tourism and sights. Did you expect a wide open spacious, got lots of room to move around, great vistas site? If so then you are staying in the wrong area. You need to be south or west of town.
Finally, your rig has wheels. If you are so dissatisfied.... MOVE. Nobody is forcing you to stay there.
