RE: Has anyone had this happened to them?

I agree with the possible theft attempt. Tailgates on new trucks are expensive, especially Ford (over $4,000) :E. A recent thread on tailgate theft. clicky

RE: Can you guess this place...?

nysteve.......Salton Sea?
No not Salton sea. If the Prince Edwards was a guess on my pic, also a no.
The water visible in the pic is a channel that joins the Atlantic in less than a 1/3 of a mile. For me the best campsite I have ever stayed in. The campground has about a dozen roomy sites similar to this on the water, and many more a short walk away.

RE: Favorite camping meals...

First, you have to have a portable grill. Easy meals are "hobo meals" wrap individual servings in heavy duty foil. Our favorites are pork chops, boneless chicken breasts or lean burger. Add sliced potatoes, onion, carrots, mushrooms or any favorite veggies. Cook on one side for ~15 minutes, turn over for another 10-15. Yummm.

RE: Need a cuise control kit for 1999 Ford F350 5.4 engine

How about just a throttle cable? There used to be a TC'er here that had a Dodge diesel and he ran with a throttle cable. He used to run between NO and ATL. He claimed ginormus MPG. Brad would remember his handle.
That was JPonder, haven't seen him post in a long time.

RE: Smoke Daddy

OBX, where did you get the air pan insert for that cookie sheet?
Dave, not sure. It has to be over 30 years old. It does keep biscuits from burning on the bottom.

RE: Smoke Daddy

Very interesting!! I'll be looking into this. I agree on the effectiveness of the Holland Companion as a smoker. I love that little grill but would like more smoke flavor. Thanks for the link.

RE: OK COME TEAR ME APART

There is another article in Truck Camper Magazine on a Northstar Liberty on a Ford Ecoboost. Clicky
Looks like manufacturers are starting to take notice of consumers that want to downsize. I've read some really good reports on the ecoboost gas mileage. Not a great improvement loaded but as a daily driver it is impressive. I may even consider this combo myself in the future.

At the minimum I would print out a blank "bill of sale" and have the seller fill it out.

RE: OBX TC Off Road Challenges

Good rant!! You will get some support on this forum but be prepared for naysayers as well. I left my comment on that blog in the link you posted. I wish I were a better writer so I could relay what I really feel about all of this.
What a lot of people don't realize is large expanses of beach are closed to humans all together. These areas were bought by the NPS for use as a recreation area not a bird preserve.
The NPS is playing God with nature. The following is a quote from their report from 2010 showing trapping of bird predators. (don't see 2011 yet)
"During the 2010 season, the predator management team removed a total of 594 targeted species including:
130 raccoon, 111 opossum (220 opossum kits), 8 mink, 47 nutria, 5 gray fox, 2 coyote, and 9 red fox.
Additionally, 61 feral cats captured in live-cages were taken to Dare County SPCA for adoption. While
conducting predator trapping 98 incidental captures were documented including 12 diamondback terrapin,
3 mud/musk turtles, 2 yellowbelly slider, 13 American crow, 3 clapper rail, 7 brown headed cowbirds, 13
European starling, 21 grackle, 23 eastern cottontail rabbit, and 1 muskrat." link A lot animals removed (some killed) for just a few birds.
BTW, I like birds, just don't think they should have preference over humans.

RE: As promised! My new 2012 AF1150

Well, I play music for a living, and although we have a tour bus on most of the shows, some are too close to use it, so I'll take this, and spend the night!
A lot nicer than some hotels we've been in:)
Beautiful, your camper sounds like a perfect solution for your travels. BTW, you should add a link to your band in your profile, lots of music fans on here!

RE: Super singles - to not clog up the other thread with this

SoCal, it amazes me how much knowledge you have on trucks, especially Fords.
I agree with the "tubbed" comment and like Francesca, wonder if the wheel wells remain stock distance apart.
Great looking truck, I like the look.

RE: Kindle Book Readers

One more tip for kindle owners that borrow from a public library:
If your lending period is say 14 days and you want to keep longer, turn wireless off and the book will stay on the kindle until you reconnect by wireless.

RE: Kindle Book Readers

Never had one, but was wondering about eyestrain with Kindle, et al, as opposed to paper. Also, is the display readable outdoors on a sunny day? Just wondering.
You can choose fonts and text size. Looks just like paper print in the daylight. No eyestrain. It is not backlit like some earlier e-readers so you do need light to read at night.

Started loading up for the next outing.
Same here. :)
Weather here in the Blue Ridge Mtns has been great for winter camping this year. We have a cold weekend coming up, but after that....highs back up into the 50's again. :C

RE: I need your opinion about a camper

The 815 should be a perfect fit for the F250, shouldn't even need any suspension upgrades. It is ~ 7' wide and should be easier for the wife to drive.
I considered the 815 when I bought my Northstar, it is similar in size and weight. My only concern was the shower drained into the black tank. Some owners install a diverter valve to drain into a bucket, maybe someone will chime in on this?
