Slow running desktop

Hi All
My gal is griping that her desktop computer ( COMPAQ ) with windows XP
has slowed to a crawl.
I did the disc cleanup and tried to DE Frag but it said it did not need it.
I ran McAfee virus scan and Malwarebytes and both came up clean
Is their any downloads or programs out there that can clean up a computer ( prefer free ones of course )??
Is there anything else I can do ??

RE: Absorb moisture in a confined space (without odors)?

Damp Rid does not stink! If it was in a un opened box it was well sealed up and you could not have ben smelling the Damp Rid. Possibly the box it was in was contaminated ( or check your shoes for dog doo ?)
I have Damp Rid and or Damp Check ( what ever is on sale when I need it) in every closed up place in my house including the kitchen and all the closets.
I change the contents every 2 months and it has eliminated my mold problems and that is something here in Hawaii

RE: Tom Tom Cheated me any GPS Help?

SidKaye Why don't you read my post again ! I can't re install anything the device is DEAD. And I was not downloading a Map I was going to Down Load a Map had the device continued to operate.
If you know a lot about Tom Toms like you make out too You would know that Tom Tom Home has your devices information in it and if a down load was going to screw it up then they would ( or Should have ) let some one know.
I love the guys that imediately start pounding on someone who is asking for some help.

Tom Tom Cheated me any GPS Help?

Yesterday I got my 910 TOM TOM out and got it set up on The TOM TOM Home web site, I was going to buy ( $64 ) a map of Greece. A notice poped up saying I needed to upgrade my device, a free upgrade they said.
I clicked on the upgrade and it downloaded it and then said "
Down Load Successful Device must restart" and the Tom Tom went Dead, I think it is re starting but after 1/2 hour I start to think something is wrong.
I disconect it and re connect nothing I re set it nothing I charge the battery nothing. I push the reset button 50 or so times nothing.
I call tom Tom support (after I get disgusted with trying to e-mail them on their support site). We go through all the serial # stuff and the Tec says
" your device is out of Warantee their is nothing we can do"
I say but it was operating great until I downloaded your update and the Tec replied
" your device is out of Warantee their is nothing we can do"
I asked can I send it in and pay to have it fixed?
Tec said no we do not offer that service just Warantee repair.
I said after one year you just have to throw them away?
and the Tec said we don't offer repair service.
Does anyone have any Ideas how to bring this thing back from the Dead ? It is a TOM TOM 910 GO.

Help with laptop Wi FI ?

My tenant bought a used computer from a fellow who is sick and needed some financial help anyway I am trying to help him get it set up like the blind leading the blind !
The computer will pick up a neighbors wifi signal at random but I can't get it to show me which other networks are available, when I click the "view available networks in range" I get the box that says
" choose a wireless network" but it shows no networks in it. Instead it says it says
"Windows cannot configure this wireless connection"
"If you have enabled another program to mange this wireless connection, use that software."
It goes on to say " If you want windows to configure this wireless connection, start the wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) service. For information about starting the WZC service, see article 871122 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base on the Microsoft .com Web site
I cannot find the Microsoft Knowledge Base to enableme to start the WZC service (what ever that is)
I can find on "control panel" on "add or remove programs" a program that says " Ralink Wireless Lan Card" The support info indicates
"version 1.00.01" "Publisher RALINK"
Does anyone know how I can get the wireless conection to show the networks so I can let him on my wifi?
If not is there a way to go back to the computers default connections?
He was given an XP home edition CD so I guess we could install it to start all over?
If we did install the new XP ( the computer has XP on it now )
would it include the default wireless conection we are missing?

RE: Canada to Alaska for Newbie from Hawaii!

Howsit nancool??
This is Leon the Pineapplekid I live on Kauai and have RV ed the Mainland every year since 1992 including a 3 month Alaska trip.
You can't do it in the time you have! You just won't be doing anything but driving and you still can't do it.
Want to see some Alaska and a glaciers and a very representative part of Alaska fly Hawaiian Air into Anchorage and rent your motorhome there. From Anchorage your 9 days will be enough to visit Homer for some killer Halibut fishing the Kenai fiords ( lots of Glaciers )
Steward ( where you can go for a walk on one ) and then head north to visit Denali National park and then on to Fairbanks.
You may even be able to pick up the rental motorhome at Anchorage and drop it off at Fairbanks and take the train back to Anchorage to pickup your flight back.
Hawaiian will also do a multi city flight for you depending where else you want to visit.
Need any more information send me a personal E Mail through this site and I will either answer your questions or give you my phone # here on Kauai.

If the thing is mass produced in China and sold at Walmart it will be a big hit!

I think I got a Virus or ??

On my other computer (desk top ) I have a problem
Eve called out last night and said something is wrong. She says While she was on a web page for the Irish Sweepstakes a pop up came up from " Premium anti virus security" that said the computer was in danger and listed several problems, the pop up would not go away no mater what I did, I finally hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and ended it but now she gets constant un solicited web pages from some sight called "Microsoft Internet Speed Monitor". It pops up a new add every few seconds and they are very hard to X out and when I try to x them out I get a dialog box that says "Server Busy" with 3 choices to click {switch to] {Retry]
I have McAfee and I ran a scan that found and isolated 2 Trojans and I thought my problem was solved but no. I then eliminated all cookies and temp files but still no luck.
Any suggestions or am I a cooked goose?

RE: Taxes - taxes - taxes - taxes!!!!!!!

I don't have a problem with what to take! Hawaiian Airline says first bag $15
second bag $50.
I can't go for 4 months without one bag but I will be darned if I will pay $50 for the second.
They say it is all about weight and fuel? I Emailed them and asked if that was so how come my 60lb Grandkids cost the same as a 300 lb adult.
