RE: Dropped it!

Debra, Call them back and ask what the shipping would be. Sounds like you really want one. I would say that use your check list ALL the time, do not get distracted and make sure eachtime that the pin is in the jaws before you test and test each and every time and you should be ok. Do not listen to the perfect people, they are full of you know what!! We all make mistakes and we all learn by them.

RE: Dropped it!

DO NOT put rails on your truck, as said before it will reduce the space betw your truck and the RV when you go over bumps and turn on uneven ground etc. This mishap has got you really worried so you need to realize that now that you did this it will not happen again, you know what to check now. AND if you are suppose to be locking the handle down and you are not then do it, seems that there is a mechanism that will not let it lock if it is not in right so that seems like a great advantage that most of us do not have. So far as asking for Reese and getting Curt- IF YOU want REESE than go to the dealer and say you asked for REESE and you want REESE and yank the Curt out!!! that is why RV dealers have reputations of being slugs, you requested something and should then get what was requested or the dealer tell you up front he is not a Reese Dealer but not just subsitute and I believe it is a reason for suit if he is a jerk and will not do as you ask. IF you do not trust him then keep the Curt and seems others like it etc. use it but it is another lesson, never ever pay for something until you know it is what you asked for. RVing is a great hobby so try to just hook up, test the hook up and then raise the legs, unchock and go. I have been known to almost try to drive off with the legs down or something anbd that is why a checklist is great and always use but I get cocky sometimes.

RE: Dropped it!

Debra, Relax, this happens to alot of us and we do know what it feels like to be in your shoes. YOU now know what to look for, also if your horseshoe plate tilts backa and forth, you want the pin plate(on the RV) to ride up the horseshoe plate on the hitch so you start it lower then if it were lower and it rides up and then you will never hitch high. But if the horseshoe on the hitch does not move then just back up slowly, hubby on the side of the truck and move backward slowly until you are almost about to hitch, put it in park and get out and LOOK to see if the plates are going to slide on one another and the pin is centered where it should be when you back up again. IF it all looks good, now get back in and slowly let it go into the hitch and then stop, put it in park and now look from the back, is the pin head down below the jaws of the hitch, if so lock it up and you should be fine but just bring the legs up about an inch and pull the rig about a foot or two then stop and bring the legs up. There should be a way to lock the arm down just as an extra measure of safety. This all should have been gone over with the dealer you bought from but.... Also, why not have hubby back into the hitch and you watch from side of truck sometimes so both of you know the way to do it and realize how frustrating it cam be to line up right. Steering wheel with hands at 9 and 3 and if you want the rear of rig to go left bring the left hand up from 9 to 12 or further around and same for if you want it to go right bring right hand up from 3 to 12 or further around. Once it starts to turn the way you want it while backing in, you follow it in but bringing the hand you brought up and around now bring it back so your truck is following it into the space. Just a woman's opinion

RE: Dropped it!

VERY important piece is DO NOT LET ANYONE DISTRACT YOU when hitching of unhitching. Tell them you will talk to them after you are secure and done.

RE: Dropped it!

NEVER have anyone stand behind the truck when hitching, you could kill someone!! Have them stand to the side of the truck so they can see if you coming in straight to the pin but NEVER behind the truck. Once you hook up is the time to go behind and check that it is in right.

RE: Dropped it!

YES that is so true, you MUST look to make sure the jaws are around the pin and the biggest part of the pin is below the jaws. I have painted the pin bottom piece white so I can see it immediately and also put reflective tape on it which is white. I should paint the jaws reflective red or something but am afraid of gumming up the jaws but look with flashlight if in evening. I dropped mine because I hear the clunk, did not look and then dropped it and the pin went between two rails on my hitch(Superglide) and it took a lot of manuvering to get the pin head totally evenly between the rails (I had turned a little when pulling out) so I could use a hydraulic lifter to get the pin out from between the rails and then drop the legs and re hook up. NEW truck,NEW topper and the topper rail really saved the truck unbelieveably, the truck got a little divet and so did the rail. In manuvering the truck and the pin the pin box was against the tailgate so the tailgate bulges a little but does close so NO body work done. IT was a lesson that will stay with me the rest of my rving times.

RE: Dropped it!

I dropped mine and was heart broken but no real damage done to fiver and the rails to the topper saved the sides of the truck, there is a fold on one side but not big. These things happen and just do what you need to do to get things in order and get out on the road but do always have a test before you pull the legs totally up. Bring them up about an inch and then put the truck in gear and move a foot or so and make sure it is locked in and won't drop, saves you but have never dropped it again.

Where are the low point drain plugs

I have a sunnybrook 34 bwts 2002 and do not know where the low point drain plugs are or the drain for the fresh water tank. I have never dry camped and will be needing to load up with water in November for a camping trip to campground that has water shut off and want to drain the water afterward and winterizing the rig once we are done but do not know where that plug is.

RE: Wood Burning Stove move

IT is going into a fireplace area that has a stone wall on either side and behind it, the pipe will go up a doublewall pipe being put in by a chimney/woodstove installer. I do need a fireproof/heat proof area to set it on which I can buy I am sure. I was worried that the heat of the stove would be absorbed by the 3 sides of stone wall of hearth but was told that is not a problem if the stone absorbs heat it will give off heat as well, the chimney is on wall that goes to garage so most of the stone work of chimney is in garage which is unheated unfortunately but not as bad as being outside totally.

RE: Lap-Band Procedure - Decide To Do It

Here is a medical prospective- Lap band is just that a band is placed at the top of your stomach to limit the amt of food the stomach can hold and the premise is that when it is filled that you will stop eating because you feel full Less food + less calories taken in. Simple as that. Gastric Bypass surgery is a totally different thing. IT by passes alot of your intestines so that your food is not absorbed as calories as much AND you do not eat as much for a number of reasons, 1) that pouch can not hold much food 2) there is something that occurs that is not well understood but something happens to hormomes that tell your brain we are hungry and that hormone seems to be shut way down with the gastric bypass surgery so there is a double whammee and much more weight lost with #2 choice but there are surgical considerations like open abdomen most times for the bypass and an instrument that places the band so much faster recovery from LapBand surgery then Bypass surgery. IF you have Bypass surgery you want to do your homework and get the best surgeon who does only this surgery instead the general surgeon who does hernias, appendix surgury, gall bladders and bypass. the reason is there are lots of complications that can occur and when you go to a surgeon doing only this surgery then you are getting someone who is well versed in techniques etc. Also google looking for the top in your area, talk to patients who have done it so you know what they are saying about the surgery and the surgeon. It is major surgery to have a gastric bypass but it is well worth the trouble if you have bad Hypertension, stroke due to hypertension, Diabetes, bad joints due to weight and I could go on. Best of luck to you all who are thinking about it but if it were I, I would do hte bypass for the reason that lap band just controls appetite by making the stomach smaller and nothting else so some people just eat more and more and strech that small stomach but bypass there is a hormonal thing that goes on they are really not hungry to the point that some lose too much weight and now medicine is lookinig at trying to reverse the bypass safely on those people. Lapband is slower and sort of plateaus.

RE: How hard was it for you to decide to retire?

IF you are going to be on Soc Security then leaving early makes your payment much lower when it comes time to collect. they figure it on an average of the last 33 years not 3 years as some believe so you could be biting off your nose to spite your face as they say. Retiring at 40 is great with a federal retirement but you could work another 20 years and have the Fed retirement AND Social Security and be in the clover as they say. Happy travels

Wood Burning Stove move

HI guys, I need some help planning moving a Wood Burning Stove. It is now about 120 miles away in a garage which was dry but out there for the last 10 or so years. I am going to take it to my home and use it but need to think about how to get it home. It is a Vermont Casting and think it is an Intrepid model. I want to think about how to move it out of the garage into a low trailer I am going to rent. I am a woman and no good back. There will be two guys or maybe one who will help me get it to the trailer but how? Are there something I can buy to move it like something with wheels on it that I can buy and put under the 4 legs of the stove or ???? Any thoughts will be appreciated.

RE: UltimateRVCamping.com ???

my advice is take it slow and easy and talk to lots of people before you go off and join everything in sight. Do not know the club you speak of.
