RE: Going from Minden, Nevada to Santa Barbara suggestions?

As my Mom and sister live in Santa Barbara we make the trip several times each year. We usually go down via CA 88 cut across to I5 in Stockton then CA 46 over to Paso Robles and US 101 south to Santa Barbara. Stops at Lockeford Sausage (best sausage on the planet) and some wine tasting in Paso Robles. Going home we often go south on US 101 to Ventura take CA 126 east and I5 south to CA 14 north to US 395 and north back to Reno. Stop in Fillmore on CA 126 for citrus. If snow is gone consider going thru Yosemite on CA 120 then CA 41 to CA 46 to Paso Robles. This one can easily take several days or weeks.

RE: Arctic Fox 1150 or Lance 1191

We have a 2005 Lance 1191. We looked at both 1150 and 1191. The pluses of the 1191: 1) side entry as I often tow a boat. 2) more headroom in toilet. 3) more legroom in dinette. plus my wife said she liked the 1191 better. 6 years and 85,000 miles later we are still very satisfied. We have been gone as long as 9 weeks and camped in snow in the teens and the desert in the 100's. About 50% dry camping or boondocking. Only 2 problems I have had are 1) Heki skylight latches needed to be replaced and 12 volt plug for tv failed.

RE: Reno to Santa Cruz Ca.

Pescadero is north of Santa Cruz on CA 1. You might want to think about I80 W to I680 S to I580 W to I880 S to CA92 W to CA1 S. It involves crossing the San Mateo bridge ($15.00 toll). As others have said be across the bridge by 2pm on weekdays.

Snow - what snow. We have had 2 fires this winter. One just before Thanksgiving and one Jan 26th. In the photo our house is about one inch from the left edge about 2 inches up.

RE: Truck camper miles traveled in how many years?

We bought our truck and camper Oct. 2005. It sits in the driveway with 81,000 miles (maybe 2000 without the camper) ready for 2 weeks in So. CA. It was all fun miles and I wouldn't trade them. Except for the 3 days fishing in Pt. Hardy, BC where I ;) only got 1 stinking salmon. Hey but even that was pretty fun.

RE: Does anyone have any snow yet?

The Sierra Nevada is about 15% of normal. Reno did not have any rain in December. I have turned the drip irrigation back on and watered my lawn yesterday. We had a similar winter 1976/77. It is so dry that I am fearful of forest fires.

This graphic shows the departure from normal. Red is the biggest difference.

RE: The Yosemite Anniversary Loop Trip

Jefe and Jean,
I am so glad you got to make the loop and enjoy your anniversary. Great weather we are having! My snowblower is starting to rust. I see Tioga pass is still open. We try to get to Yosemite end of Aug. early Sep as we don't trust the weather. So now the tough part - I want a report March 2012 on how much of that firewood you put up got used. I stuck 4 cords buy.
Regards,
Al

RE: Jacks running at different speeds

For the first several years they ran up and down at the same rate. Now the right rear runs fast when dropping the rig. No big deal just level it up and work it down. Probably has done it for 4 or 5 years

We got a huge camper because my wife said " I like that one."

RE: air bags

I trust you got the dual in cab controller and some bump stops (Stable Loads or Energy Suspension). I run mine mostly at 45 psi going down the highway. But will drop as low as 10 or 15 psi on rough roads to get the suspension engaged. With a tall big TC like a 1181 or 1191 cross winds are always exciting. I use the the air bags to "lean" the TC into the wind. Maybe 60 psi on the windward side and 15 psi on the lee side. Of course when stopped you can use them for leveling.

RE: Where Were You 10 Years Ago Today?

We had just moved into our Reno house 3 days before. A friend called and told us what was happening. We just had the TV hooked up to the cable the day before. Turned it on to watch and listen for a long sad day. Our son was to fly up from San Diego later that day to help us move in. Needless to say he drove up a day or two later. We later found out we lost friend.
Judy and I will never forget.
God bless.

The short trips of August

We had several short trips this August. We were at Sierra Buttes and the lakes basin off of CA49, Fallen Leaf cg near Lake Tahoe, Carson Pass on CA 88 and Tolumne Meadows in Yosemite's high country.
I am gonna bore you with a few pictures and some sparkling narrative. I hope you enjoy it.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r210/RenoAl/Aug%202011/CIMG0173.jpg?t=1315542522
These are the Sierra Buttes. They are about 8500 feet high and have a rich mining history. At their eastern foot is the lakes basin with a dozen or so lakes. Good camping, fishing and hiking.

The largest lake is Gold Lake. Here Judy and Chris are launching the kayak.
