RE: Would you push it?

It is a bit of a myth about traction issues with FWD. FWD vehicles have the drivetrain weight sitting on the drive wheels. What a novel idea. Even with a trailer attached FWD vehicles (in most/some cases) will still have more weight on the front drive axles when compared to the rear axle.

RE: Chevy Equinox 2012 Caution

I don't recall reading that you can't or shouldn't tow with a front wheel drive. LOL, there are a few folks here that can't seem to get there head around the fact that FWD does make a good TV.:) Actually, this is my fault for taking the word of the auto dealer, but I wonder if he even knew it was only rated for 1500 lbs. If he did, he was not honest, because I made it clear I wanted the 3500 tow limit and that is why I was comfortable buying the Equinox. The dry weight is 1970lbs for the tt. It is not your fault if you were misled or lied to. The same thing happened to my pal. He was told by the Ford dealer a new Ford Fusion could pull his 2,000lb trailer. He bought the car and found out the Fusion was not rated to tow anything. After some discussion the Ford dealer took back the car and sold him a new Ford Edge. Ford absorbed the costs because it was their fault. Go back to the dealer and get them to make it right.

RE: Is the trailer I want too heavy and long?

With those size of TT's you will need special attention. For stability you may need to go to LT tires on the EX and or invest in a high end hitch. ie Hensley of Propride. A towing specialist will know what you need to make it handle nice and be safe.

RE: Any Prov. Park CGs in Ontario/Niagara Falls Region??

Good day Campingbugs. We live 15 minutes from the Falls in Canada. There are no good PP parks here in the area. Kilbear, Algonquin, Kilarney PP's are the good ones and they are 4 to 6 hrs north of the falls. PS... Last winter was mild with not much snow. Had the snow blower out only once.

RE: Getting the best mileage possible

I agree with you, hence my diesel swap into my car, with the custom hitch fabrication I already did. I full well expect to get twice the MPG, empty or towing, versus any full-size late-model pickup truck. Thing is, my car isn't costing me even a twentieth as much as yours is costing you. If you have to spend thousands to get MPG, you're just jumping over dollars to pick up pennies. Plus my car is far more fun, a good bit more stable, more easily and affordably upgradeable, infinitely more serviceable and repairable, and is actually appreciating in value, rather than yours depreciating. Seems to me you got an important part of the right idea, but way-wrong application of same. Both are cars but totally different concepts as far as TV are concerned. A. New Passat... A modern state of the art vehicle with all the benefits of that technology (too much to list). VS B. 30 year old Firebird heavily modified with super heavy duty parts/configuration. Since I to am a custom car builder and a user of a modern car for a towing I can see and appreciate both vehicles. The issue is they are apples and oranges which makes them very different vehicles and difficult to compare. Items like handling, stability, fun to drive, reliability, etc are all opinions and subjective. I guess the only way to compare you would have to hook up the two vehicles with the same trailers, connection, etc and go out on the road and do some travelling.

RE: Getting the best mileage possible

''Getting the best mileage possible'' I just got a new Passat 2012 TDI 6 speed manual tranny and I will take delivery of my new TT (VISA 19ERD 2013) in june from Can-Am RV in London Ontario (Andy Thomson, the best of the best specialist in towing). My fuel consuption will be better WITH the TT than ANY PU solo in the best conditions ! Sweet! Congratulations Claude. Doesn't get much better than that.

RE: Would you tow with this veichle?

Read NewsW's response. While engineers may not "set" towing capacities, it is NOT just a random number the marketing team made up to sell vehicles. NewsW, thanks for the excellent info. To date SAE Document Number J2807 does not have anything to do with Jeeps or Minivans. Marketing does!

RE: Windy towing!

Rigs with a big sail are really affected by wind. Ideally rigs with low sail, high tech suspension, and top rated connections have no drama on a windy day. Dealing with a windy day

RE: Would you push it?

Sienna's are very capable TV's and it appears from what we see around here have "modest tow rating". Enjoy to trip. No sweat. Re boat ramps... Never used one. Can't help you there.

RE: Opinions on UnderWeight Hitch Setup from dealer

HI goducks10, I have a 2011 Jayco Eagle superlite 314bhs. Thanks for all the reply's I was looking at a Hensley but there are no dealers even close to me in Red Deer, AB. SO a Reese/Equalizer seems to the answer. Good luck.

RE: Opinions on UnderWeight Hitch Setup from dealer

HI All, Last year we purchased our first travel trailer 35' Jayco Eagle SuperLite, bought it from a dealer and had them install the hitch and everythng on my F-150 ecoboost. We had a little trailer sway last weekend Thanks for your opinions. Hensley or Propride without question.

RE: Too Much Tow Vehicle?

Maybe it's a dog wagging the tail type of thing. Too much truck might cause damage because you won't feel the trailer...go to fast, take curves to fast, stop to late...etc. I think there is a lot if truth to what you stated. I know of a case where a 5er was being test driven. On a turn the driver looked in the rear view mirror and noticed "air" under one set of tires on the trailer. He said he didn't feel anything in the HD truck that suggested the trailer was on the verge of flipping.

RE: Shopping for new tow vehicle -- 6000 lb capacity

When I say the Pathfinder is wearing out, I am referring to all of the repairs it has needed -- transmission, radiator, etc. We do a lot of towing - 50 or 60 days a year -- over long distances Tranny and rad etc. We see what you mean. That is too bad, sorry to hear. You do lots of towing compared to most too. By comparision our Nissan Van towed for many years too but not at your level. No major repairs with 275,000miles. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/CF105/airr.jpg?t=1336214136 height=100 width=120

RE: Shopping for new tow vehicle -- 6000 lb capacity

Currently we have a Pathfinder -- it's ok but wearing out at 100k miles. Wearing out?? The PF with that small trailer you should easily see 250,000 miles with few problems.

RE: F150 Too Small for 32' Trailer?

The specs say that the truck can tow up to 8,500 lbs, but I am concerned with how the truck with handle a trailer of this size. Yes....in the interest of safety go with a Hensley or Propride Hitch.

RE: Towing with Ford Explorer

Both will work. Regardless of the tow rating the Flex would be my first choice. As a TV is has better tires, lower centre of gravity, long wheelbase/short rear overhang and has a better ride.

RE: How about an EcoBoost sticky?

Question? This V6 seems to be a huge success to date. Did Ford develop this engine or was it designed/built by someone else??

RE: Advise needed - nervous towing cross country with Caravan

I have a 2005 Dodge Caravan (3.3L/v6) I love the idea of the trip - but not at the expense of the van! I need it to last..any thoughts?? Ten years ago we had a van similar to yours with the same questions. No where could we get accurate answers until we taked with the towing specialist at the Airstream dealer in London Ont. They have set up 1,000's of mini vans for towing and have the knowledge and experience to give you the answers you are looking for. The advice we received from them has saved us $1,000.'s of dollars and 10 years of problem free towing. A two hour drive to London would we very wothwhile. Best of luck.
