RE: Campfire recipes

Psst...... Don't let this out. Dutch Oven cooking is great and alot easier than you might think. Stews, roasts, desserts are not hard at all.

RE: Paralell 12v Water pumps...?

What are you hoping to gain? Better flow, pressure? My thoughts are that you'd also have to put one way valves on both pumps on the pressure side, otherwise they would fight each other to some extent. I can't imagine that both pumps would have their pressure settings exactly the same. Therefore one pump would max out before the other one. Also, you would double the power requirement, which may or may not be an issue for you. IMHO if you are looking for increased flow or pressure, you'd be better off by getting a better pump and adding a small pressure tank.

RE: East Coast trip in November / December

Add Myrtle Beach, S C for year round camping. Yes there can be cold days, but a little precaution and smart preparedness shouldn't ruin things.

RE: Question about jacking up trailer

I offer my experiences. A previous Airstream I owned as well as my current Avion, both had warnings to jack on the frame, not on the axles.

RE: Anyone have experience with Portable Ice Makers?

Worth it, yes! If you are adding that much ice every day, consider upgrading your coolers to one of the "extreme" models that will keep ice 5 or more days.

RE: Old Fort, NC to Boone, NC

I travel 221 from 74 to Linville then up to Grandfather Mountain with my rig every year. I've also traveled 105 to Boone too. I've seen many rigs your size on my way. No reason that you couldn't make it.

RE: Popup Gizmos & bunk fans

since you don't mention what hybrid you have and it's not in your sig, not sure if you got bunk lights/fans with yours. there are standard on most hybrids since 2004. the OEM ones use a headphone jack that plugs in over the bunk end entrance and runs off the 12v battery. Where can you find the fans that plug into the light?

RE: Kitchen must haves

These types of questions always inerest me because you get answers from people who live in their rigs full time, and with shore power, and then you get completely different answers from weekenders who dry camp. You are so right. Very different perspectives from those that boondock compared to others that camp with services. I typically camp in campgrounds (full service) and festival type camping where there are minimal services (15 amp electric). For me, cast iron and Dutch Ovens are a must always. Where I do have full service, I love my Nesco Roaster. More versatile than slow cookers.

RE: Power Chip for 454 Chevy

I replaced the opiginal engine in my '90 Suburban with a reman unit from Jasper last year. The new engine has an upgraded cam and valves over original. Also added an Edelbrock aluminum intake and headers and dual exhaust and added a Gear Vendors overdrive unit. I too have Brian's chip installed. Made a trip by his shop and had him do a custom tune to take full advantage of the improvements. The truck runs better with more power than when new.

RE: Particles in water lines

Usually mineral deposits. Flush all your lines well including removing the drain plug from the water heater.

RE: Converter Issues - Need Some Expertise

You want the generator to have more power than what is being used. The converter won't charge as it should if it doesn't have the correct power to supply it. You won't go wrong with a Progressive Dynamics setup. You should give some serious consideration to upgrading your battery to a pair of 6V golf cart batteries. I upgraded my old converter to a PD-9245 with golf cart batteries. Also consider upgrading at least some of your heavily used lights to LED's.

RE: 85 Avion 34V--thinking about it

As for some of your questions you have... The Avions are indeed very well built. You do need at least a hitch of the calibre of a Reese Dual Cam set up with 1200# bars or the best would be a Hensley or Pro Pride Hitch. With the proper hitch setup it tows wonderfully. As for backing, a bit of practice will help. Eternabond is a wonderful product. Follow the directions and proper prepping of the surface is key. The interior walls are not painted but a bonded vinyl over aluminum. I use Scrubbing Bubbles to clean my walls and if you want them to shine try Future Floor wax after a good cleaning. Feel free to PM me if you have any particulars you'd like to know about.

RE: Generator will not turn over

No matter what you read voltage wise, best to check all wire connections. If you have a bad connection the voltage would show as being good but would exhibit the symptoms you describe. I would remove each wire connection and inspect for corrosion, clean and reinstall. From the battery conections to the solenoid and starter. Temp extremes tend to bring out any and all kinds of weaknesses in systems.
