RE: Driving from Bakersfield to Palm Spring

.... I'd take highway 58 east to 395. 395 South to 15 and down to 10 east. Keeps you out of the worst of the LA basin. Agreed

RE: Another Navy SOS recipe

My Mom made it with a jar of chipped beef and served it over toast. The Navy made it with ground beef and served it over biscuits. I liked them both. My Mom's recipe was a holdover from the Great Depression. It was cheap. The Navy's recipe was all about massive quantities. If they used chipped beef, it would take them about a month to open all the jars. :) Ate a lot of chipped beef as a kid too. And the USN version of SOS from 77-81 on my Tin Can.

RE: Clunk when downshifting pulling trailer

My 2011 (see sig) will "clunk" also. Always at low speed accelerating gently (think parking lot driving). But if I put it in Tow/Haul mode, it never happens. Fluids are fine. Towing or single, doesn't matter. I've gotten in the habit of switching to Tow/Haul when under 15mph. Computer related maybe?

RE: So..you think you are just gonna shoot the bear?

Best one is: "Due to the frequency of human-bear encounters, the B.C. Fish and Wildlife Branch is advising hikers, hunters, fishermen and any persons that use the outdoors in a recreational or work related function to take extra precautions while in the field. We advise the outdoorsman to wear little noisy bells on clothing so as to give advanced warning to any bears that might be close by so you don’t take them by surprise. We also advise anyone using the outdoors to carry “Pepper Spray” with him is case of an encounter with a bear. Outdoorsmen should also be on the watch for fresh bear activity, and be able to tell the difference between black bear feces and grizzly bear feces. Black bear feces is smaller and contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear feces has bells in it and smells like peppers."

RE: Weird electrical problem

Ceiling lights are 12 volt. Microwave is 110 volts. 2 entirely different circuits and systems. So you've got at least 2 wiring problems. Get a volt meter and start checking. Or, hire someone that knows what they're doing - you're risking a fire. Or worse.

RE: This will be a first for me.

Did it for many years from San Diego to Glamis/Ocotillo Wells. If you're concerned, stop closer to Famoso to fill with fuel/water, then go on to destination.

RE: Battery not charging or holding charge

When hooked up to "shore power", the converter in your trailer charges your battery(ies). If you have a generator in your trailer, make sure it's switched over from generator to shore power. Some trailers (mine for instance) have a connection box that the shore power cable plugs into to utilize the generator. I unplug this and plug it into the shore power to utilize the campground power.

RE: Beef Roast in Crock Pot

Brown the roast on all sides in a pan. Put the vegetables in the bottom of the slow cooker, then the roast on top of the veggies. Then cook.

RE: 2008 WW FB2200 ?'s

check the roof VERY CAREFULLY. Fuel pump operational? Generator operational? Check supports for the fresh water tanks.

RE: carbon monoxide

4 things come to mind: If stand alone unit, either the internal battery is dead/low or the unit itself has gone bad. They DO wear out. If hard-wired, check the voltage of the big batteries, the output of the converter could be low or non-existent. Or, the unit itself has gone bad. They DO wear out.

RE: AAA RV auto club

Had a wheel bearing eat itself on our 21' toyhauler on the way to the desert. AAA sent a flatbed in a reasonable amount of time, and got our trailer home in front of our house (50 miles). Driver said thank you very much - no charge.

RE: DC will not work

OK, we can rule out the converter, since the slide works hooked up to shore power (the 50amp you talked about). Put a volt meter on the battery(ies), and check with the shore power plugged in, and then disconnected. Big difference? Bad battery(ies).

RE: Grillin'

We got one of these and store an extra wrench for attaching the hose to the propane tank, an ignitor, brush, cooking tools,etc.... Windex works well for killing ants but doesn't affect the cooking process as an insecticide might.
