RE: Wallmart gunfight in Arizona

Just saw this was 3/22. Maybe old news - if so please delete I thought this sounded kind of familiar. For what it's worth, I've not been back to that mall since it happened. Come to think of it ... I've not been to a WallMart since this first happened either. Am I subconsciously paranoid? I was just in a Walmart this morning.

RE: Truck Camper Explosion in Portand

I think they should do a rebuild thread. The damage looks mostly cosmetic. Cranked up on meth, they could probably have it done in a week!

RE: 5th wheel won't move

Wheels rotate with weight off them, could it be a broken leaf spring causing the tire(s) to wedge against the trailer body when lowered off the jack(s).

RE: 5th wheel won't move

The breakaway switch is not connected either But is the pin on the trailer end of the wire cable pushed into the box? If the cable was pulled the pin can come out, actuating the brakes. Or, you can disconnect the batteries - that'll release the power to the brakes.

RE: Truck Camper Explosion in Portand

Little too much yeast in the dough? No, probably an open flame around acetone!

RE: Salton Sea

Reading this thread is so sad. When I was a kid (early-60's), my Dad and I would go fishing at Salton Sea. We'd fish for something called "Corvina" (I think). We'd take a boat out to a barge that had drinks and a snack bar, and we'd fish all day. What great times. But now, my Dad is gone and it sounds like Salton Sea (at least as a destination spot) is essentially gone as well. Skip yep, corvina. member of the sea bass family, and REAL good eatin'. I seem to remember a barge down in the south end, by Red Hill marina.

RE: Little orange cones

Over the years I have used big cones, little cones, lines laid down using white flour, radios, and LED road flares. Like this....

RE: Chicken skewers - advice please ?

If you use bamboo skewers, remember to soak them in water for an hour or so (longer is fine) to prevent them from burning like firewood..... Metal skewers have to be cleaned, but work better, IMHO. Oh, original post - skewer THEN marinate, then straight to the grill. Watch carefully - they cook quick.

RE: Little orange cones

Sporting goods store - soccer field stuff here or here..... they even make collapsible versions. Or you can steal them from a road construction site - NOT.

RE: How much gas does your genny use? And a charging question

Let me get this straight.... You're running your vehicle to provide 12v to the inverter to provide 120v to a charger to provide 12v to a battery. doesn't your vehicle charge batteries off the alternator? :h

RE: GS ESP looks for loopholes and doesn't pay

I have yet to hear of an extended service plan, or extended warranty that actually paid for itself. Nothing but pure profit for dealers.

RE: Salton Sea

Parents had a lot/home in Bombay Beach in the 60's/70's. Most of the town is still there. Google it and you'll see some of the pictures. The big tourist infrastructure is pretty much gone (marinas, waterfront restaurants, etc. Couple of dive bars, and a market. If you decide on a tour around the "sea", do it counter-clockwise (north on 111, south on 86). The USBP checkpoint on NB 86 can get you into LONG waits, with people coming back from the desert. There is a checkpoint on NB 111, but there's hardly anyone waiting there.

RE: Loud clicking from rear wheels at low speed

Might have someone walk alongside as you drive slowly and listen for where the noise is most pronounced. Noise sometimes travels from where it originates at. Might even be in the brakes or driveshaft. JMO As in something WRAPPED AROUND the driveshaft....

RE: Good Stuff on Sale at Harbor Fright

....Things like roll around stools...two of the wheels snapped off with normal sitting in under a month of use. The bolts look like something even the Chinese would reject. I must've gotten the next one off the assembly line - wheels snapped right off. Replaced all 5 with some decent wheels (the wheels total cost more than the stool on sale!), and now it's my favorite piece of furniture in the garage!

RE: Ok to run a generator at night if no one is around?

In the SoCal desert (Glamis, Ocotillo Wells, Gordon's Well, etc) thousands of people gather each weekend to run their onboard generators and have campfires and play with gasoline engine powered sand toys. Never heard of ANYONE suffering from CO poisoning. Camped in many "wagon circles" with upwards of 30 rigs, with a fire in the middle, with no ill effects. I say run it.
