RE: Dang it!!!! Lost my awning yesterday!!

Well, I have learned something -- I am from Southern Calif, where gentle breezes blow. But we are heading into the Canadian Rockies this summer -- thunder country. So, at the risk of displaying my ignorance -- how do you tie down the awning?? I don't want to roll it up every time we go away for the day!
Thanks in advance for your advice. And if this should be a separate thread (so that I don't hijack Bob's story), I will re-post.
PS -- Bob, that was well-played -- my guess is that your blood pressure is well under control! You haven't been out today have you? :)

RE: omni antenna???

What exactly are you trying to do? This is not an off-air TV antenna, it's a 5.8GHz omni used in point to point data applications

RE: Dang it!!!! Lost my awning yesterday!!

Will Bob repair his awning back into service?
What did Bob's DW REALLY think of the Tango?
Did Bob make any headway in convincing DW they need to trade-up?
What ever happened to Bob's mat anyway?

RE: Exhaust Brake

Roy....Some do, some don't. My 2005 Diplomat was suppose to, but somewhere the wiring connection is missing. I took it back to Monaco twice and they couldn't find what was wrong. It made me mad because I was trying to add the "Brake Switch" aftermarket accessory to mine which allows you to activate the exhaust brake by tapping the brake vs using the switch. It also lets you use the cruise control while the exhaust brake switch is on. The newer coaches do this automatically.CAT can do that, but it costs $200+ just for PC programming time. Grrrrr

RE: Help with Norcold 1210 recall parts

They're not available to the public because the factory needs to track the devices that are installed, and where. Since it's a box swap only, it should be a 3 min swap

RE: Fluid leaking down inside front tire

Called my dealership today and they can't get it in until the end of the month.
I bought some 90wt gear oil and topped it off this morning. Cleaned everything good with Brake Clean which wasn't very much, and so far see nothing leaking.
Must be a very slow leak.
VicCheck and see if there's a Freightliner shop around there, that's where I'd go anyway.
The service manager at my local tire shop is an ex-Freightliner mechanic (lucky for me), so I took mine there. He also used Lucas Hub Oil instead of the 90W. It's way thicker and he said won't seep as easily. I wasn't sure, but it clings to everything way better than the 90W, but the everything moves nicely in it. I'll do the other side soon.

RE: Bone Head Move of the Day

Is it a NEW coach? If so call the factory and see if you can get a replacement tile (and a few spares) out of the same lot that your tile came from.

RE: Where Do the Dead Norcold 1200 Refrigerators Go?

If you do your homework, you will find that a Norcold 1200 will use more power off the grid, than a comparable size, energy star residential fridge. I almost doubled the size with our Samsung rf197 and can go 3 days with just the solar system, then on the 4th day, run the generator for about an hour to top off, for the next 3 days. Just something for you to think about. For me it's not worth pulling out the calculator cuz I'm already in trouble. I have 400W on the roof, and with a few lights (CFL & LED), 2 PC's, the TV & sat Rx, and with me being nocturnal, even at the beach with no heat running the batteries typically hit ~60%. That can take all day to recover.
My 1200 draws .750ma, external fans off (they rarely seem to run), and a continuous running fan in the box; that's nothin'. How would that exceed a compressor fridge along with inverter inefficiencies? The idle current on my inverter is twice that that. You forgot the 450w or 550w door heaters, depending on the year of your box and I guarantee the rear fans will work overtime in most regions. Several folks have done a very through test of both and the equivalent size energy star residential uses approximately 35% of the electricity the Norcold uses when on the inverter.Been bypassed since the day I bought the coach and never had any door frost issues whatsoever. We camp in fog and humidity at the beach, all the way to the desert. Where would this be a problem?
If you're comparing residential vs. Norcold on AC, I'd agree 100% on that one

RE: Fluid leaking down inside front tire

Thanks guys,
I'll run out in the morning and get some 90wt gear oil.
VicJust a heads-up... Since the drum and shoe are most likely coated with gear oil, just be aware that you are in for a surprise when you hit the brakes; the coach will drift in the opposite direction of the problem wheel. See if you can practice before getting in traffic.

RE: Where Do the Dead Norcold 1200 Refrigerators Go?

Obviously the 'mine is better crowd' doesn't care that you don't care...
"some solar panels" ? Try an entire roof full just to stay up with the compressor.
Why would you want to rebuild a known defective cooling assembly? If you're going to stick with LP, then invest in something like the Amish unit that everyone is raving about. Do a search here and you can gather lots of info on it.

RE: Fluid leaking down inside front tire

For what it is worth, if you suspect brake fluid, all you have to do is apply some water to the drip. If it washes away easily, it is brake fluid. Brake fluid readily accepts water (not a good thing), but grease will bead up the water. These are air brakes and the fluid is bearing oil. See up

RE: Sparker on the stove not working

Ours works fine, but it's always faster and quieter (for those of us that sleep in when others want coffee) to just use a Butane type lighter/ sparker. Even if the Butane runs out, you can always get the lighter in front of the stove LP and usually get fire in one trigger pull

RE: Fluid leaking down inside front tire

What Brett said..: Been there, done it. If this is a new leak you might get lucky that the oil hasn't penetrated the brake lining. Mine was cleaned off and the rest burned off after a few good brake applications.

RE: Just some good to know Fridge info

I would still submit that LP is still more efficient. If you have a rear ventilation problem, it will affect the fridge cooling regardless of how you produce heat: AC, DC, or LP.
Gotta lose that heat.

RE: Just some good to know Fridge info

---snip---
When running AC side of shore power, the fridge runs most efficient. the heating element used for this system does not get as hot as the gas system, therefore the fridge maintains much colder.
---snip---
Como?
The AC element being more efficient than running on LP? Is that what he said?
Then why does it cool faster and more consistently when on LP?
If he was comparing AC vs. DC, then I'd agree. But not LP

RE: normal milliamp draw?

I switched everything off. A pain, though, these days when the ECU has to recycle, so I imagine a tiny solar panel would be less obnoxious than putting up with a cranky engine management system struggling to reinvent itself the first ten or so miles or 16km.Thats one of the top reasons I started with solar (and because the factory 15W panel was useless): I didn't want the engine and trans to figure out how to play nicely each time they got power back
