RE: Purchasing problems...Now RESOLVED!!!

No actually, the trade amount was established right away, and that has never been a problem. This ended up being a good situation as obviously I ended up with a much better deal than the good deal that I had originally negotiated! You know, the whole thing started out as a very fair deal. And I do agree with the poster that said this was just a bad set of circumstances coming together. I really don't think anyone was trying to pull the wool here. Anyway, I'm happy and excited that my new Lance is on the way!!

RE: Purchasing problems...Now RESOLVED!!!

Well its over. The owner of the dealership called me yesterday and he also talked to the president of Lance. All is worked out with them agreeing to divide up the price difference between them. So my 2013 1050s will arrive on July 15th. While the whole thing was a pain, I'm glad in the end for how it all worked out. Ultimately I ended up with the 2013 at 2012 prices. Thanks for all the replies.

RE: Purchasing problems...Now RESOLVED!!!

UPDATE: Ok, so I called Lance the other day and spoke with Gary, the national sales rep. He was well aware of my situation. He said the dealer had been calling nearly every day but this is the problem. He told me that the deadline for 2012 model orders was April 16th, and they received the order from the dealer on April 22. My printed quote from the dealer was dated April 16th. So they have been looking all along the east coast to find me a 2012 unit that most closely matches what I ordered OR the other possibility is they have 2 10ft models in que on the production line (they are still finishing up the 2012 orders), and if either one of these becomes available (ie the buyer backs out) then lance can customize it to my build sheet. I asked what would happen if neither of those 2 options work out, and he basically didn't want to answer the question, and just said "lets hope it doesn't come to that". He did say that basically that means the dealer promised me something that he can't deliver, which I took to mean that Lance wasn't going to send along a 2013 model, but it would be up to the dealer in Maine to swallow the price increase. I called the dealer and told him that I had spoke to the national rep, and the dealer still lied and said he hasn't heard any news from them, but I also got in touch with the east coast rep, who has been doing the searching for a 1050s for me, and he said he found 2 units and had faxed the options list on each one to the dealer last week. When I called the dealer out on the lie, he admitted that he did receive those, then he said he needed to call me back, and I haven't heard from him since. I called there yesterday, and was told it was his day off. This is irritating!

RE: Lance 1191 weight question

And there in lies my delema... I know many people are driving around with a 1191 on a 3500 drw truck and feel safe and comfortable with the combo. I'm just hesitant for the exact reason of being overweight, and running into a situation (no pun intended) where someone thinks they have found a great opportunity to sue. I do plan to move up to a 450 within the next 2 years, and that would bring all the numbers in line and I would still have the camper that I want instead of upgrading the truck, and wishing for a bigger camper. decisions, decisions.... Thanks for the replies!

Lance 1191 weight question

I love this lance 1191 floor plan but am concerned about the actual "down the road" weight on my truck. My truck is an 04 Chevy duramax drw crew cab. I know alot of people have this combo truck and camper but how does it handle the weight.. Assuming e-rated tires, airbags, happy jacks, and rancho 9000's? What risk is there. Insurance wise with this kind of weight on On the truck? My door sticker says its rated for around 4000# payload. I'm not towing anything. All loaded up will I feel reasonably comfortable with the trucks handling?? Thanks.

RE: Purchasing problems...Now RESOLVED!!!

I'll call Lance in the am. Thanks. I agree with all those who wrote saying if this is the kind of trouble i'm having just making a purchase, then how can I expect anything better if I need warrantee work, etc...

RE: Purchasing problems...Now RESOLVED!!!

Thanks for the replies. What you are all saying makes sense. Ultimately I want the unit with the options I ordered. And the only other lance dealer near me I was unable to strike a deal with. One thing for sure, this dealer has been asking me to bring my trade up to hIm, and there is no way he will see my unit until the new lance is sitting in his yard and I've inspected it. I'm still hoping he will come thru. He told me that the difference in price is not mine to pay but they want lance to pay it and that seems to be the hold up.

RE: Purchasing problems...Now RESOLVED!!!

It's confusing because the dealsr did send me that email directly from William Hill (lances east coast sales rep) stating we would have a vin number by the middle of last week. Of coarse ultimately I want the unit I ordered, and since lance dealers are few and far between it doesn't make sense for me to pull out of this deal and hope I can find another dealer. My dealer has not asked me to pay the difference. They insist it should be lance that honors the numbers as is because they accepted the order with 2012 pricing on it.

Purchasing problems...Now RESOLVED!!!

Looking for some thoughts on this situation... About 3 weeks ago, I placed an order with a dealer for a 2012 Lance 1050s. The dealer informed me that the factory had accepted the order and we were just waiting for a VIN number to do the rest of the paperwork. Well, now it turns out that Lance had changed over its model year to 2013 back about 5 weeks ago. The 2013 version of the model that I ordered is now priced at over $3000 more than what all my paperwork was written up as (Lance has made some changes to its 2013's and the was a price increase). The dealer insists that Lance had accepted this order without mentioning the model year change or price increase. So now my dealer is trying to get Lance to honor the purchase price that they accepted on the original order, but Lance is simply not calling the dealer back. The dealer forwarded me an email from the Lance east coast rep stating that we would have a vin number "early next week". But that was over a week ago. The owner of the dealership has tried every day to contact Lance, with no response. Now, I would just walk away but I have already given the dealer a deposit on the unit. Should I just be patient and wait for Lance to respond? ...maybe thats my only option??

RE: how big is too big???

Our Mountaineer TT is 35ft hitch to bumper and weighs over 10,000# all loaded up. I've had it on a seasonal site and it was great for that but I've also towed it all over the east coast from Acadia to Florida. I'm towing with a 3500 DRW diesel. Going down the road, I don't even know its there. Tows beautifully even in high wind, and with tractor trailers passing. BUT, its not the kind of unit that you can just take for a quick overnight somewhere. You always have to be thinking about where going to be getting fuel, and can you get into the pumps or not. The overhang on the back end is problematic with and grade differences between the roadway and the place your entering or exiting. Taking those grades on an angle works well but sometimes you just can't. Its always tight getting into campsites, and when a unit is that long, and the entry door is toward the back end, you need a fairly level site or you cant get your steps down, or the first step is huge. Don't get me wrong, I've had this TT for 8 yrs now and love it, but we dont take it out as much as we would like just because its not a unit for the quick overnight. We actually decided to buy a Truck Camper, and our new Lance is on order. I will miss our Mountaineer as we had many years of great memories in it, but we are looking forward to the convenience of moving around nimbley with the TC on.

RE: Question about financing...

thanks for the replies. do you think there is any big danger in paying for it and waiting the 10 weeks for it to be built, so that technically I own something that I dont have possesion of?

RE: Question about financing...

Yes I suppose selling outright would be the cleanest transaction. The reason I have to order a Lance is that I live in New Hampshire, and they are few and far between. I'm actually using a dealer in Maine. The NH Lance dealer basically told me that he was the only place around and didn't need to budge on the price of a new unit (even though the one I was origially looking at was sitting in his lot AND a 2011!). I went to Maine and was able to make a reasonable deal.

Question about financing...

We have decided to purchase a new Lance Truck camper and trade in our much loved Montana Mountaineer. We will have to order the Lance, and it will take approx 10 weeks to come in. The dealer said I can either give him a deposit to place the order and then make the switch when the lance arrives (using my current rv in the mean time), or bring my current rv to him and do all the paperwork, paying for the new lance, and then wait the 10 weeks for it to come in. I would just do the deposit and finalize the deal when the lance comes in, but honestly, I had a terrible experinece in the past doing just that when I ordered and traded up for my current Chevy truck. I had decided to not drive the old truck during the waiting period for the new one, and in fact I had only put 150 miles on it over the 3 month wait. But in that 3 months, the front windsheld cracked and then shattered, so I replaced it. And then it wouldn't shift! So I brought it to my mechanic and the transmission was gone!! All in 150 miles while I was waiting for the new truck to be delivered... What a mess that was! Anyway I am a little hesitant to pay in full for a new lance that hasn't even been built yet, but probably more nervous that something will happen to the mountaineer while I'm waiting for the lance... Any thoughts?

RE: Lance 992 question

Thanks for all the replies! First of all, I'm relieved to know I have options other than one of the 1100 sized models. And several of you brought up great points, Campers Inn is new to the truck camper market and therefore they don't have a lot of knowledge about them. There were only 1100 and 800 models on their lot, so he could have been trying to steer me into what they already had. I mentioned the swing-out brackets to the dealer but he insisted that even with those, it simply wouldn't fit. He did point to the flyer which mentions single rear wheel in everything up to the 1100's. He offered to check the info for me and email me but I haven't heard from him. I did write to Lance also, but it was just this past friday night and so far I haven't heard back from them.

Lance 992 question

I'm considering purchasing a Lance truck camper, and have been looking at the 992 model. I went to my local dealer (campers inn in NH) and was told that the only truck campers made by lance that will physically fit into a chevy 3500 dually longbed, are the 1181 or 1191. He stated something about the sides of the other models not being wide enough, and even said the smaller models (like the 992) wouldn't even be able to slide into the bed of any truck with dual rear wheels. I'm sure this guy doesn't know what he's talking about, but thought I'd ask you all for the skinny on it.
