RE: Is bigger really always better.

Just from watching "House Hunters" vs. "House Hunters International", we have seen that many Americans feel bigger is better, much bigger is even better.
OTOH, many from other countries are very satisfied with smaller homes, automobiles, etc...
Obviously we like little- the 825 is the smallest Lance.

RE: Crew Cabs are apparently not for carrying Truck Campers

My Dodge is good for 4350. Dry weight on a 1150 is 3358 from their web site. Why won't a Dodge carry one
Who carries a truck camper dry? Wet weight on a 1150 is 4,812 lbs not including people and supplies.
How is it possible for the same camper (if it has the same equipment) to gain 1500# going from dry to wet??
Just sayin'

RE: deck for truck camper

I also built one that was bolt together. (we no longer have that camper or truck)
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8149/7107944717_f47dd6cb66_b.jpg
The frame was a heavy duty "hitch haul" that I topped with the wood deck. The picture shows the basic platform before I further modified it to carry storage boxes.
Look closely between the platform and the bumper. There are two pieces of steel angle- one on each side- bolted to the platform frame. These make contact under the bumper and greatly stabilize the deck from twisting side to side. I could stand on the right or left edge and it wouldn't twist.

RE: Which Truck

I have a 2011 Lance 825 (wet weight 2200#) on an '05 Chevy 2500.
It sits level with no suspension changes, but added Roadmaster Active Suspension since we will be pulling a motorcycle trailer with one or two road motorcycles.
Picture before the Roadmaster add-on. But I have a gas motor

RE: To those pulling trailers behind thier TCs

Probably lighter than what you are contemplating, but....
An open motorcycle trailer, most times with one bike but have had two on it. About 900# w/ 1 bike.
No brakes.
Very little mpg change- it is light.
No need to contact EZ Pass if only trailering occasionally- they detect the extra axle(s). That is on their website somewhere.

RE: Arctic Fox weight over truck limit!

If that was your total weight with passengers I would think that Rickson or similar wheel/tire combos would fix it.
But adding more weight and a boat/trailer really puts you into dually range.

...... I'm sure it's not for everyone but worth a look......
There are those that cannot manage a thought without consulting their cellphone. The same folks that text while driving.
"In the year 2525, if man is still alive....."
Thought camping was for leaving all that behind. :R

RE: Checklist for TC setup/take down

I walk all the way around the truck and camper. Unhook us from electric if we are on 120v, unhook the water supply.
I look over and under the camper.
After I lower the jacks to stabilize the camper at a campground, I always place the electric jack remote in front of the speedometer- prevents us from driving off with the jacks down.
Cathy secures everything inside. Turns the fridge onto 12v if we are driving long distance with minimal stops or onto propane if we are doing a stop and tourist day.
Off we go.
We don't need no stinkin' list. :B

RE: North-East Truck Camping Jamboree - May 17,18,19,20 2012

Mike,
We would like to make the May weekend, but due to SWMBO's work schedule we might only get there by 5-6pm on Friday- still trying to have her get "sick" that day. :R
We have been to another of your jamborees (briefly)- Saco River Campground. We arrived on Friday then had to leave later on Saturday, but had a good time while with the group.
Maybe see you in May.

RE: Ford 2003 F250 Crew Cab 5.4L and Lance 855S

2003 F250 has 8800 GVWR and 6084 RGAWR. With crew cab, 2wd and gas engine the truck likely weighs at least 6000 lbs empty and the rear axle likely weighs 3000.
8800 - 6000 = 2800
6084 - 3000 = 3084
If the camper weighs 2640 dry, it will weigh at least 3000-3500 loaded. That puts you over the GVWR for sure and likely over the RGAWR too.
I agree.
Just filling the fresh water tank will have the unit weighing over 2900#. Now any options? A/C? Electric jacks? Other items?
Then think about everything you will carry in the TC. The 855S will be at 3500# all too easily.
Sure Lance says that it is for a 3/4 ton. But they also say that their 825 is for a 1/2 ton. Don't believe what they print.
Unless you want to be looking for a 1 ton after buying the 855S.....

RE: interesting combo

PHOTOSHOP!
The truck and the camper pictures are different sizes.
Look at any side pictures of an 1150 on a pickup- any pickup. The front edge of the side window on the TC should be directly above the axle center. Like this:
https://encrypted-tbn3.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRElAQ1GrqdSgP2zo0XRqZ1WGDTf5niI_Rn9gsH6wFY7LoTCrw8_g
Now look at the fake:
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/elrubio1999/yikes.jpg
Also notice that if it was real, the front jacks would prevent the truck doors from opening.
And the rear overhang is way out of proportion.
